Embers Guitar Repair Station - First look at it after repaired

    Embers Guitar Repair Station

Arnold at Embers breathed new life into my late grandfathers 1971 Gibson 12 string. After a botched…read moreneck reset decades ago, it sat unplayed in storage for over 20 years. I honestly wasn't sure if it could ever be made playable again. But after finding it again, I really wanted to play it for my sister's wedding. Before finding Arnie, I checked with nearly 30 other luthiers. Most either turned me down outright or quoted prices as high as $4,000 -- really just trying to scare me off. Then I brought it to Arnie. Instead of shying away, he was excited by the challenge, and he took it on for less than $300. When he opened the case and saw the damage, he almost sounded disappointed it would be too easy for him! He stabilized the loose neck and converted it to a semi-bolt-on, corrected bridge and saddle issues, reglued the pickguard, cleaned and polished the guitar, reinforced braces, and gave it a custom setup. He also made sure to fix it in such a way that it will last, and be easy to set up in the future. Didn't try to cover up all the dings and history or the guitar. When I brought it home, it stayed in tune through hours of changing weather and travel. That kind of stability tells you everything about the quality of the work. The action is comfortable, the setup feels dialed in perfectly, and for the first time in my lifetime this guitar is truly playable. Arnie didn't just repair an old Gibson -- he brought my grandpa's guitar back to life after decades. I can't put into words what it means to have it singing again. If you want someone who combines deep skill, integrity, and genuine respect for both the instrument and its story, I can't recommend Arnie highly enough.

My every day use electric guitar developed a annoying buzz in the high strings. Found Embers on the…read moreweb and called and talked to Arnold regarding high strings having a buzz. Guitar/ukulele (pickup needed a nut) dropped off in the morning and spoke to Arnold who let me know that the neck needed adjustment. Text received early evening that the guitar was ready for pick up. Arnold went above and beyond meeting my wife after end of the business day to pick up the instruments. The guitar now seems to have new life to it and sounds and plays amazing. New set of strings and set up including resolving the buzz issue. Arnold made some other adjustment as well and the action is now better than before and tones are clear and crisp. Repair cost was very reasonable. Thank You.

I have a Heritage H-535 in trans. black and over time I lost interest in play it. Being such an…read moreincredible guitar it really bothered me that it got to the point that it lived in it's case. A buddy of mine turned me on to Dave that had refinished a Fender Strat that I sold him some time ago and the make over was mind blowing, a totally new guitar!! This inspired me to to refinish the H-535. I got in touch with Dave and explained my situation and get his feel for what I was looking to do. He first explained that to refinish a trans black to a lighter finish (trans blue) is a bit challenging but he was totally into taking this on. I sent him a couple images of guitars in the finish that I liked and he responded with a color sample that was exactly what I had in mind and it's a go. During the process Dave kept me up to speed with where he was and updating the time line which really built up the excitement!! I just picked up the guitar last night and when he reviled his work I was totally speechless. He knocked this one out of the park. It was exactly what I wanted, a guitar that I cannot take my eyes off and more importantly my hands!! The set up is dead nuts perfect and he even cleared up a couple hanger scars to boot. In short Dave is a really cool guy that has an incredible talent with making guitars incredible to play and enjoy. I could not thank him enough for expressing my vision to this wonderful Heritage H-535 and really looking forward to working with him resurrecting another. Thanks Dave!! RockiT!!!!!

Found RIT Music while I was next door at New Holland Brewery sampling every flavor of Dragons Milk (yes, you should do this, too)... ANYWAY- RIT Music is pretty cool! some good deals on the guitar wall, they had a decent selection of pedals, some drums that seemed like a pretty good deal (up on a high shelf, didn't get a close look). The skate shop side was great, thirteen year old me would have lost his mind. Staff was friendly and welcoming. One guy was quiet, but he was cool- sometimes I'm quiet too, you can chill until you want to join the conversation, quiet guy- it's cool! the other two guys were hyper friendly fun people. We talked about pedals and Coheed and Cambria and had a great time. I bought some strings I don't need quite yet and a candle that smells surprisingly good, but I'm going to save up for next time I'm up there so I can grab a pedal (or something better!) because those guys were great. Definitely going back to Holland, and definitely going back to RIT Music!

But...things have changed for the better! My last few times in the store the staff was handing me guitars, picks, a tuner... They have been very accommodating! Once I decided on what guitar I wanted and paid for, I left it for Randy to set up. The Set Up was awesome. You know they care! Yesterday I was shopping effects pedals. The staff suggested different pedals and connected all of them to an amp and guitar for me to sample. It was great! I actually purchased a pedal the staff recommended, based on the sound I was seeking. As a self-taught (internet) guitar player, it is nice to enter a music store and have fun and enlightening conversations about music. Thank you!
