I was far from home in Grand Rapids for a concert last week and decided to pop my head in and look around. The staff were incredibly helpful yet gave me space to shop and explore. I ended up going home with my new PRS CE 24 and it is beautiful. The price was fair, the setup that was performed ahead of time was really good. They kept the original box and provided custom cut foam for the headstock for travel. They didn't even make fun of me for playing my favorite Jerry riffs. Excellent business that deserves your money. I came in with my husband who recommended this place to my son who owns many guitars. We actually came in with the intention of buying him another. He asked the salesman if he could play the guitar that was one if the more expensive guitars. The guy, who by the way looked like he crawled from under a bridge with a heroine needle in his arm asked him if he planned on buying it. My son who immediately decided, oh I'm being judged by my appearance told him not today. He was then told no you cannot play this guitar. So I wondered if any of the older white customers would have asked if they would have been asked the same question. My son went to Sweetwater and was handed with a smile any guitar, at any price that he wanted to play. So how dare the meth head behind the counter look at us and decide we couldn't afford anything in your store. Your small minded staff is a great credit to why you will stay small. I will be to let everyone I know to avoid coming here. I guess if your a person of color there is no way you can afford to buy a guitar in your store. read more

I ordered a electric guitar through Amazon and this company was the fulfillment company. I received the guitar with one of the tuning pegs had a broken screw. Also had some small nick in the paint & the 2 first stings dead out on the first fret. I called and was told it was Jackson's fault and to contact them so I asked if they had a contact number he said I would have to contact them myself. No Help at All. 100% legit! I moved to Kalamazoo from Nashville Tennessee in 2015. The only decent music store I've been to since I moved back his elderly instruments in Lansing. It's a little bit of a drive, so I've only been there once. Yesterday, my son & I were in Muskegon getting some amplifiers looked at and I told him to look for some local music stores so we could go look at guitars. He found the listing for fire house so we decided to take a chance and drive out there. This is a real music store. Finally. Elderly instruments is good too, but just the stomp box selection alone at firehouse was impressive, But they also had a lot of guitars. And not all beginner guitars like at guitar center, but a lot of high-end guitars and a lot of other brands like Suhr for instance. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the expensive guitars are not locked up. You can try a squire and then the fender versions of the guitar from player, performer, ultra, professional, and beyond... Tim was cool with my son and I trying the guitars and helped us get plugged in and turned on. We will be stopping back soon! read more

My wife and I took our two younger teenage boys to Firehouse Guitars the other day to purchase a shoulder strap for their acoustic guitar. While we were there they started to look around...pretty soon they were trying out electric guitars and figuring out what they could afford. Despite their ability to upsell my teenagers, Firehouse and their staff were awesome. They were very patient and shared their knowledge and expertise with us novices. They had a good selection of new and used instruments, and my sons selected a used instrument in great condition. Firehouse Guitars is my new go to music shop. All the employees are so kind and helpful. First time I went in I was looking to upgrade my guitar. I had been looking on Craigslist and there prices are very similar. So I had to pick one up once I was in there. They have a large selection of new and gently used equipment. I found the perfect black Les Paul and brought it home and it played perfect. Until I messed with some of the settings, I thought I knew what I was doing but I was wrong haha. So I brought it back in and purchased a full guitar setup and before I knew it Ted the manager had that thing "playing like butter". I could not be happier with the level of service. Great selection of new and used gear. Tons of stuff that isn't just a standard Fender P bass or telecaster. Bought most of my gear from this place. Guys who work here are friendly and knowledgeable. Also do good repairs as well. Had to get a new nut for my Dean zone bass and they got it fixed in a jiffy. Tons of pedals as well, which I always like to look at. I live right around the corner from here and have been going there for over 10 years. It's where I try out new gear, even if I don't buy it they are always happy that I stopped in. I have never had any issues or problems with them. Even met the owner once and even he was helpful. One time I wanted to try out an Orange TH100. They said they had one at there warehouse and they can have it within the week to try it out. Sure enough it was there the every next day. They even called me to let me know it was there. I had a completely different experience. The guys were around, helpful, and open to make some deals where they could. Mainly had epiphones and fenders. Worst customer service experience of my life, no doubt. You walk in, there's no one there to greet you. It's like they don't care about making money, there is literally no one behind the register! At time's I've actually had the people that teach guitar lessons come up to me and ask me if I needed help finding something, not even a real store employee! Later I would find out that the guys that work there make so little (literally something like $3.00 + something like 5% commission on what they sell) that it's no wonder they don't give customers the attention they deserve. The employees that work for the store could actually make more in a few hours begging for handouts on the exit of 131 and 28th St. then they would working a week at the store. Normally I love to shop, support and buy local from locally owned businesses such as this one, but I have to recommend that you pass on this place and go to another locally owned instrument shop like Rainbow Music, RIT Music or even the dreaded corporately owned Guitar Center, unless of course you have super human patience. My Hispanic friends say the same about this place as well, plus there's not a bilingual person that works there, which is strange since Spanish is so widely spoken in the Grand Rapids area. If this locations non-existent customer service is any indication of how this business as a whole is run, then it's really no surprise why their downtown Holland location had to close up shop. Thought was a great staff at first when I just started doing lessons a few weeks ago. The instructor I thought was awesome. For there lessons you have to pay for the month which I thought seemed ok even though I would rather pay weekly and the have a no refund policy for missing a week. So just the other day I ended up getting injured that is now preventing me from doing me lesson so I called them right away to cancel my lessons since I won't be able to do it for a couple months. When talking to one of the people on the phone I asked if I could get my money back for the month when I paid for it last week since I won't be able to do my lessons. They would not refund me and I ended up losing $80 when I could use it towards other stuff due to my injury. Will never go back there again. That's not right in my option on something I can't control on getting hurt. If I did a review on the instructor I would do a 5 star his instructor I liked a lot read more

I dropped off my guitar for some work on the fret board. I was told someone would call me. Then a week later I was told again someone would call me. Three weeks later, after receiving no calls, I called in and my guitar hasn't been touched. I told Nate on the phone that I would just come get the guitar. He chirps, "no problem" and hung up without the slightest interest in my frustration. Firehouse doesn't hold a candle to R.I.T. or Guitar Center. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.
