I needed my violin ready by the weekend so 4 days was too long of a wait. DLP is open late until 8:00 - 8:30 PM on weekdays. Just call the shop and tell the owner what you need to be done and he is accommodating. I was able to get my violin back the next day. The prices are reasonable. I would return here for violin supplies like strings, rosin, and polish.

Complained that I should get my deposit back and take amp home, they committed to take amp back to "bench". Returned 1 week later to find amp still on bench - i believe untouched. I seriously doubt they have any competence for electronic instrument repair. I took my unrepaired amp back and took the $65 deposit loss (since technically they put my amp on the bench). Beware.

To do a full rebuild on my tenor he wanted $1k, with $500 up front for supplies (pads, resos,…read moreetc.). After he strung me along for ten months I finally picked the horn up in pieces, the only thing he'd done was straighten the body tube and yank out all of the pads from the keys. He refused to refund any of the deposit, even though he hadn't even ordered any of the pads - claimed to have done half the work. He had previously quoted $140 to straighten the tube, which would require him to refit all of the keys and give it back assembled and in working order. My new tech (who didn't ask for an up front deposit) needed to do a bunch of key fitting before he could put it back together, the thing was a mess. Half the work done, my ass. Eventually he offered to give me $200 back but it's been weeks and he's just making excuses. Yeah, I know that I should have pulled the plug months sooner before he'd done anything at all to it, but I'd always liked the guy and didn't think that he'd backstab someone who'd always been a good customer and had recommended him so glowingly to everyone who asked. I wonder who else he's ripped off; I doubt I'm the only one, and the place looks like he's having serious cash flow issues. Stay away.

So I started looking elsewhere. After a lot of research I called Grosse Pointe Music Academy. The staff was very professional and was able to answer all of my questions. All of the instructors either have a degree in music or are working toward their music degree - unlike other "schools" where apparently being in a band qualifies you to teach music! The location looks and feels like a music school, with sheet music books and an understandable billing system - a far cry from whatever was going on at the other place (Axis!) where you never saw any sheet music and you felt like the manager found the instructors by cruising local bars - "hey dude, you can play guitar, do you wanna teach?" I am excited for their June recital! I would highly encourage anyone to give them a try.

We fell in love with the Hummingbirds Music Together program here! My daughter loved it from the…read morefirst session and for many more to follow! The teachers are engaging with both the kids and parents and teach us about the fundamentals of music while having a ton of fun! The location is also perfect for kids and during class the kids are free to move and play with each other and the parents. Music Together is a great program, but Hummingbirds Together makes it even better with great teachers! As my daughter ages I will look to the Canton Music Academy for additional music classes as well since the teachers are of such a great caliber.
