Got my Boss RV-6 from here. They have some great employees that don't pressure you to buy and that really sets the tone. The owner is very kind as well as I visited this place to try out a pedal for the first time and had two different employees come and teach me how to use them while also showing examples of how you can apply them to your playing, and I really appreciated that. It's about 45 minutes away from me, but it's always worth paying a visit. I need a new amp soon ! read more

They managed to delete my review from Google, so here it is: 5/2/25 Well, I should have known better. I really wanted to do business with a local music store. Been in several times before, owner didn't make me feel real welcome, but thought I would give it another chance. Stopped by on the way home looking for a practice guitar amp. Had looked at prices online different brand. Zane Franklin, "The Prince/Sales Manager" helped me (out of my money). Said, "I have a used Blackstar ID Core 40 V2 that I can get you a deal on" of course we all like deals, so I said ok. He brought it in the room and said "I can get this for you for the same price as the Blackstar ID Core 20 V4, $229. Being bigger and better (I assumed, bad move) I liked the sound of it, thought why not, I'll take it. Made the mistake of googling the amp after I made the purchase. The V2 is obsolete, and the V4, brand new sells for $229, the price I paid for a used amp. Never buy something from Zane that you don't know the price of elsewhere. He made sure he had me sign the receipt, and of course I wasn't paying attention to the words right above my signature "ALL SALES FINAL NO REFUNDS". I claim responsibility for being taken advantage of, it's what happens when you are in a hurry. There won't be a second time. I will go to Guitar Center or drive to Fort Wayne and go to Sweetwater. Thanks Zane, you got me. ***UPDATE**** My google review was not deleted, google did not post it due to it having a link in it. Once I deleted the link it was immediately posted. Now the good part, 12 minutes after posting, Zane called me and apologized for the mistake he had made regarding the sale price and refunded a reasonable amount of the purchase price. I used to like Guitarworks in Greenwood quite a bit. It's a family run business with father and son currently manning the sales floor and counters (along with other staff). And that sales floor is large! They have drums, guitars, and quite a few other instruments and gear with breakout rooms for PA gear, acoustic guitars, and electric guitars. Recently, I feel like they must have fallen on hard times. It's common for brick and mortar stores to be outpriced by Amazon. But everything at Guitarworks has a considerable mark-up. And I mean considerable. Most things I price matched against other retailers carrying the same item were roughly 30% to 60%(!) higher than at other places. The pinch is obvious in the sales approach, too. Where the congenial family vibe used to come off as hustle and caring about the customer, it now has more of a "Buy something!" hard sales vibe. I buy music gear all the time playing in local bands. So I'm not a loiterer by any means. But I also don't buy a new guitar every time I walk into a guitar store. High-pressure sales aren't the way to make me feel comfortable to browse or bond with new gear. My teen kids (who are also both experienced musicians at this point) and I won't be in Guitarworks again for a while. Hopefully the owner can sort things out to bring prices back down to retail levels and calm the sales pressure down a little. read more

This shop may have guitar in the name, but it is so much more. They have banjos, drums, harps, keyboards, microphones and congos to name a few of their instruments. This is a local business and the owner is always in the shop. You will be able to find some good deals here. The shop is very clean and organized and has a decent size parking lot that it shares with the other stores in the strip mall that it is in. You want to buy an instrument, but can't play it? They offer lessons right in the shop. Emily is the best. There is also an acoustic room where you can jam out and test out your instrument. This is a one stop shop to meet all your musical needs. They have instruments, they have music and they have lessons. The ownership is staff is awesome. They are very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend checking this place out if you are looking to buy or learn how to play an instrument. read more

Ignored phone calls, and texts. I have reached out to Renè (operations of lessons) about lessons for months now, have even went in and no one is trying to help me get into a class. They need to do a better job on who is handling the phone...I have gotten MANY texts from them addressing the wrong person giving me their detailed information (first/last name) and not me specifically. Trying to support a local, family business but they are making it extremely difficult to even want to do business with them. read more

My two children and I have all taken lessons at Guitar Works. The employees are all so kind, helpful, and energetic. It's clear they love their jobs. My daughter is currently taking ukulele lessons with Dan Hunt and loves it! He has given her so much in terms of confidence and understanding of her instrument; while also giving her the freedom to play songs she is interested in. He's engaged, thoughtful, and invested. We are so thankful for Guitar Works and all they have to offer. read more

After I jacked up the wiring in my Strat, I took it to Greg at Guitarworks. He rewired it, cleaned up some cold joints and set it up so the trem system floats. It sounds great and the action is lower like I like it. Highly recommend Guitarworks. read more

Took awhile to be greeted, but a gentleman came out of a side room, and asked if I've been helped. He proceeded to order the cello that I was looking for, sold me on the benefit of the 5 year warranty, and was a genuinely nice guy. Was super patient with me as I was wrangling a nap needing toddler. I never received a call that it was in, but learned it was when I called to check on it. So happy to have a guitar store on the south side that isn't a chain. They have a wide variety of stuff on hand for any musical need, and they carry good quality items. The first thing that drew me in was that they carry GHS strings, which I normally have had to order online. They carry lots of Jackson and ESP guitars, catering to the metal players in the area. Aside from guitars, they carry lots of basses and related gear, PAs, you name it. The guys are all very knowledgeable and listen to the needs of the customers. I am a novice guitar player only had 3 lessons. I was having hand pain playing. The owner said I know exactly what the problem is, I can sell you the lowest price best guitar for your problem. I trusted him, bought the guitar. I found the exact same guitar $100 cheaper with free shipping Another salesman told me they could fix the guitar so it was easy to play. I thought that was included in price, wrong $55 when I picked it up. They never told me about a cost involved. I feel cheated and taken advantage. I won't buy another guitar from them read more

I am usually good at getting the best deal I can when buying anything. I made a mistake today and trusted the people that work at this music store. I actually bought a guitar and I regret it. The price of the guitars in this store are marked up hundreds of dollars over what you can get the exact same guitar for on line or even at Guitar Center. Do not be like me and price compare AFTER you buy a guitar at Guitarworks. I promise you will regret it too. The Taylor I was looking at was roughly $500 more than other places. I bought a cheaper guitar than the Taylor and found out later that I paid an inflated price even after they took my trade in. I paid more for the guitar than anyone else sells it for with a trade in !! You would be better off giving your trade in items to Goodwill and buying your new guitar any place else. I wish I could return this guitar now, but on my receipt in big letters it reads "all sales final no refunds". I will be looking into a what legal remedies I have if any or maybe look into a credit card charge back. Most likely I am screwed though. I was stupid, I trusted Guitarworks. The Good There aren't too many places you can even take music lessons, so that's a big plus for Guitarworks. They have small, but nice, private rooms and teach a wide variety of instruments (drums, guitar, base, voice...etc) Cost for lessons is about in line with any other music store. They also have a "band builder" program which, while I didn't participate, sounded pretty interesting. They essentially put you together with other people of a similar skill level and teach you play in a group. It's a good sized shop with a nice variety of equipment. In fact, I bought a Washburn electric from here and it was the only shop I found in the area that carried anything other than the acoustic Washburns. The Not So Good You better REALLY want to do the Band Builder program if you're taking lessons. The teachers are required to pitch it to you and give you flyers on it every time you see them. If you're not interested, you're going to get real darn tired of hearing about it. The Bad Price for equipment is way higher than anywhere else. Do you want to deal with high pressure sales and get into a screaming negotiating match? Then THIS is your Nirvana. I'm not saying they're expensive compared to online, I'm saying they're expensive as compared to luxury retreats at five star hotels in Dubai. $10 Snark tuners sale priced at $34.99, $1,000 Strats for $2,750, $4 sets of strings for $12.97. Please feel free to insert any item. It will be 2-10x the price it is sold for anywhere else - online or physical. The place is out the take every dime they can from you. If you go here without knowing what something is generally sold for elsewhere, YOU WILL BE taken advantage of. If this is all you have available for lessons, it's fine. They seem to do a fair job at that and the idea behind Band Builders is pretty cool. But, caveat emptor! read more

I travel for work and like to visit non-chain guitar stores to a.) kill time and b.) see what instruments I might find that aren't readily available in my area. Guitarworks was a great experience. I was greeted when I walked in with a friendly welcome and I let the guy know I was there to kill time - pretty much told them I wasn't going to buy, which usually sends the experience down the crapper. This was totally different. I picked up a bass and started playing and was not looked at as a danger to the instruments (I've been playing for over 20 years but you'd be surprised how some stores react when you want to *gasp* play an instrument). As I wondered into a guitar and amp room I saw a mini head I've been wanting to try and plugged in. The store's owner came in and chatted. It wasn't a sales chat, it wasn't a security chat. He wanted to make sure my needs were taken care of. The selection in the store was great, the service was better. If you are in the area and need to find your first, or just your most recently bought guitar - this is the place! read more

Buy online or elsewhere if you want to save money as far as your instrument or other music gear and/or needs. Or, you can simply support a local business which is not a chain. The store seems to offer a fairly decent array of instruments and various other supplies or extras - including a respectable song books library. If you want something they don't have as far as a particular music instruction book, they will order it for you. They did this for me when I needed a piano book. They have a very involved and organized. music lesson set up. I am not entirely clear if they teach lessons regarding any other instrument besides guitar. My daughter took guitar lessons from them years ago. I would definitely rate it as a very pleasant experience. I am planning to take my son there to get started on lessons as well. Unfortunately, since Guitar Center is going out of business, Guitar Works will probably end up being one of the few music stores left in the metro area - or at least on the southside. read more

This is the second time I've been into this store, and I've gotten a terrible experience. First of all, they follow you around the store making you feel like you are going to steal anything and give you the feeling that cannot touch any of their products either. However, we went ahead and purchased an Orange Speaker Cabinet at this location, but it didn't work well with the project we had on mind. Therefore, we went back to the store two days later to return the item and they refused to take it back or do any returns. This store treats all their products as a final sale even though the Orange Speaker was brand new. I will not recommend this place at all since they take advantage of their customers and has a very bad business model. Instead, I will recommend #GuitarCenter or #Sweetwater. Those are wonderful stores and haven't gotten any single issue. read more

I took drum lessons here for years. As I sat and waited for my turn I saw salesman after salesman yip off poor grandmas trying to get their grandchildren a nice guitar. They'd take advantage of their ignorance frequently. They have a lot of guitars, but perhaps musician's friend and Ebay would do you better. read more

The only place to shop for Guitars! The owners here are great people who will do all they can to educate you and get you into the guitar you want. They have a nice on site rooms for lessons. I know quite a bit about musical instruments and electronics, but I like to let these know-it-all experts try and tell me why a $65 "MONSTER CABLE is what I need without even asking what my application for it was. A few weeks ago I saw a used HAMER sunburst carved-top electric guitar that they had priced for $399. I went home to investigate it on the internet and found that I could buy a new one, have it shipped for free, and pay no tax for $232 Plan ahead for what you need and you'll never have to be taken advantage of by these crooks.. read more

Never buy from Guitarworks ever again! I went in there and was looking around, while looking around I noticed that they had less items from last time... Hm I wonder why. I browse more and I see their small items pics, capos, strings, etc. I kid you not the cheapest capo they had was $24.00! I ignored it and asked for a set of D'Addario strings. He told me the price was $11.94 for a set of 10 gauge strings! Now I should have known that was over priced but I didn't care, I bought them and left. I came home and looked at Guitar Centers price and it's only $4.49 . Not only was it over priced but the guy gave me 11 gauges instead of 10's. I won't be going back. read more

Each time I've gone into this store I feel like I am being pressured by used car salesman. Stand over you like a hawk. Obvious commission. Guitars are priced on tags extremely higher than what they are worth, EXTREMELY limited guitar selection in terms of their brands. only when showing interest they say they could cut a deal. Was interested in taking lessons and never even got a call back! From anyone! Take your business elsewhere. When asking questions, as a beginner. I know for a fact that this place is about nothing more than taking every last dollar they can from you and care about nothing else. Everything is also double the price of anywhere else ive ever been and ive been playing guitar for 25 years. All they are interested in is selling you as much crap as they can. This place is for the complete idiots who know absolutely nothing to come in and get taken advantage of - new players that don't know squat and mom's shopping for x-mas guitars. I wouldn't spend one dime in a place that tries to charge $10 and $12 for a pack of strings when they are easily $5 elsewhere. That's what the owner Kevin would have you do though - I don't care what kinda sales spin you put on your strings. The guy is a complete tool and 100% salesman, not even sure if he plays guitar.
