Zero stars really. I hate to do this because I love to support black-owned businesses, but after what my family and I experienced today, I'm convinced they should close their doors. We came in from out of town for a funeral. We decided to go on a double date, hoping to enjoy some seafood based on the positive reviews and the fact that it was black-owned. How very wrong we were. It took over an hour just to get shrimp and grits and some fish sandwiches. By the time our orders finally arrived, we had all lost our appetites. Came in for the first time. Was told it will be a 15 minute wait. Turns out it my lunch may have been made in those 15 minutes. But the woman who took my order never went to the back and see if the food was ready to be brought out. Since I was on my lunch hour. I was running out of time. The food took 50 minutes to be brought to me. This all could have been avoided if the woman went into the kitchen to see if my order was ready. Like she said it would be in 15 minutes. I ordered Crab Cakes and an order of Catfish Bites with French fries. The Crab Cakes were less the a quarter inch thin. The Catfish Bites were to include French fries and they were missing from my order. When I mentioned that the French Fries were missing. She apologize and told me it will be 15 minutes. At that point I am already late for clocking back in from lunch. I just was to pissed off the wait any longer. Very poor service. Very poor attitude. A small quiet shop with big plates. A serving of ox tails and rice was enough for two, I tried to push through and failed. The rice was delicious and the ox tails were a meal by themselves. The only drawback was that the flatware wasn't big enough to hold more and I didn't ask for some white bread. The whiting meal was just as good. The fish was fried well and flaky. This was true Gullah cuisine and not just a name to get you in. If your from the Low Country you know what I mean. 6/17/23 This place reminds me of one of those best kept secrets of great eats. The whiting was perfectly fried and seasoned with good sized pieces. The oxtails over rice was definitely a rave. We had a wonderful Saturday lunch while driving from Georgia to North Carolina on I-95. We called in our order from the road about 20 minutes before we arrived and our food was ready 5 minutes after we got there ( they didn't start cooking our piping hot hush puppies until we got there). They are currently only offering take-out but have tables on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. Our food was delicious and portions were huge and very reasonable. We both took half our lunch home with us. The owner gave us a complementary dessert of "jelly cake" that was excellent. Highly recommended if you are in the area. I got the fried flounder with rice and hush puppies. All were amazing. Flounder was fresh with a tasty batter and fried to perfection.
