The service was fast, friendly, and knowledgeable. The lady working the register was so kind and helpful with food suggestions. And when my food was done, she brought it out to me. I had so much food, I was stuffed. Boudin egg rolls for an appetizer were so delicious. They do carry some heat, but just lean into it and have some more iced tea. I had Catfish Etoufee for dinner. The chicken and sausage gumbo was spot on delicious. I would highly recommend it. However, the shrimp poboy was terrible, the shrimp and batter tasted like it was frozen straight out of bag and into the fryer. The shrimp size was something my family has used for bait while fishing. It was small and they made up for it in quantity. I do recommend the gumbo. This place used to be good. Just ordered a geaux burger to go and am super disappointed. Ordered it with just meat and cheese because it was going to be a while before I could eat it so I didn't want it to get soggy. I had all the fixings at home and would dress it later myself. Well, get the order home and not only is it fully dressed but there was about a cup of mayonnaise on it. So much that it was all over the fries and had the bun a soggy mess. Fabulous service and scrumptious food were discovered by us at Gumbo to Geaux as we were driving around looking for Great Food! The lady who waited on us was so friendly and helpful that she even gave us a taste test of the Cajun rice, while the young man behind the her showed us how big the Cajun egg rolls are- impressive! We were thrilled by the perfectly seasoned catfish plate, boudin balls, gator balls, yummy man-sized chicken tenders with fries, delicious mini meat pies, the strawberry cheesecake with sauce, the yummy brownie, the julienne sliced Cajun egg rolls and the just like home red beans, rice and sausage. Love dark roux gumbo and their base is one of the best; HOWEVER, when I order a bowl only to discover that I can count the rice grains and then have to search for the meat in a lake of roux and after paying over $12 for it with tax and debit card fee, then I have a problem. Furthermore, shouldn't business owners know the law that governs their transactions? I always use my debit card. This merchant charged a fee that is entirely illegal thanks to the Durbin Amendment of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act that prohibits debt card surcharges. I am keeping a list of the places that violate this law and will soon report to the proper authorities. Bottom line, the food is good and counter service is cordial. Some items appear to be overpriced, but I understand the times in which we live. I don't mind paying extra on occasion for great food served by locally-owned businesses, but don't short me on the dish without forewarning that, for example, the seafood gumbo is 90% roux. Most likely I will pay a little extra for a hearty helping of the meat, but without the notice I left feeling a little cheated. read more

Great spot for lunch or dinner. Unique selections. I did lunch here three out of four days, and I did not have one "off" item or experience. I LOVE THE BOUDIN BALLS (3 for around $4)!!!!! They had a 1/2 poboy, gumbo, and fries special. Over the three visits, I tried both the chicken & sausage and the seafood gumbos...and the Shrimp poboy (once) & Oyster poboy (twice). I will just rate each of the items I tried: Oyster poboy: 5 stars Hot, crunchy, and served with a nice tartar sauce. The bread is buttered & grilled. Plenty of oysters on the sandwich. Shrimp poboy: 4 stars Also hot & flavorful. LOADED with medium to large shrimps. The spread on this was also one of the dipping sauces served with the Boudin Balls. The only knock is that the breading on the shrimp is different from the oysters. The latter would be better. Seafood gumbo: 4.5 stars Although a bit thinner than I would make, it was spicy & chock full of good bits of shrimp, crawfish, & more. The gumbo is served with rice in the bowl. Chicken & sausage: 4.0 stars Also thin. Very good, but with a touch less punch (spice) than the seafood. Boudin Balls: 84 stars :) These are little balls of heaven. Two great dipping sauces came on the side. They are a perfect balance of spice, flavor, and crunch. They also hold up well, so they held up well to being leftovers. While home in Bossier over Thanksgiving we decided to check out a local Cajun place named Gumbo to Geaux. Looking at their menu I decided on the Creole Burger. "Jalapeno Cheddar bun with lite mayo and American Cheese topped with Fried Crawfish tails and Crawfish etouffee, served with Fries." Mmmmm, minus the cheese (seriously, who eats seafood with cheese?) that sounded wonderful, so I gave it a geaux. Holy Moly was it good! And huge! The chicken philly came with no lettuce, tomatoes, or hushpuppies like the menu says.. the grilled chicken wrap literally only came with chicken, Cajun ranch and one wilted piece of lettuce. We called to speak with someone about the menu options compared to what we got & she says the online menu is inaccurate and the menu in the restaurant is accurate, (picture of it as well).. the menu in the restaurant doesn't even have a chicken philly on it.. also, the reason the wrap doesn't have tomato is because they didn't have anymore... what a professional response for a restaurant located next to a Kroger Grocery store.... All in all, the place wasn't the cleanest, the customer service is poor, and you won't get what's on the menu.. I hope someone reads this review before picking to eat here. read more

This was the last place I went to eat on my trip to Barksdale AFB. My friend took me here for a quick bite and this place was delicious. The inside looked like a Southern place, not really trendy on the inside, really what you'd expect a redneck would own. The service was polite and really helpful when ordering. I got the Thursday special, chicken fried steak with white gravy (the only way to get chicken fried steak) and mashed potatoes. The chicken fried steak was awesome, nice and crispy and the steak wasn't chewy. You could tell they fried it at the right temperature and got it out so it didn't overcook. The mash potatoes were on point. The gravy brought it all together, nice as rich, not overly salty or peppery. I wish I had room for the peanut butter pie, but maybe next time.
