Recently was in the area and I went here back to back days. The first day was a Friday during Happy Hour. It wasn't busy, I sat at the bar in the bar area. The happy hour specials had to be asked about, however the bartender/server was very attentive and responsive. I ordered the Mango Cart beer along with the sampler of charbroiled oysters. The bartender also brought out some bread. I had high hopes for the oysters, and although you get a variety, they left me feeling somewhat disappointed. The Rockefeller had way too much spinach, the charbroiled was dry and had too much bread crumbs, the crab stuffed was okay and to my surprise the Diablo was my favorite. I also got some bread pudding which came out pipping hot. It tasted okay although it was too much for one person. Overall I gave the meal 4 stars The next day I came back with friends and we sat in the dining area. This was disastrous. The server let us know she was going to come back and help us after she got the LARGE group next to us taken care of but would put our order in first. Then she forgot about us. Actually told us she had already put their order in and proceeded to take our order. Then she had to come back and confirm (which was wrong) as she didn't write anything down. We started off with an order of crab stuffed mushrooms. Although the stuffing was tasty, as a whole it wasn't something I'd order again. I ordered the 1/2 & 1/2 - 1/2 poboy and gumbo. Food was just okay. The sandwich was dry, the gumbo was mostly rice. My friend, who we were celebrating, was disappointed with her food. When it came to the table she saw fries and asked was there an option and the server said yes, and she proceeded to ask her what she would have liked instead. However the fish was dry, the shrimp was overcooked and the veggies (that she replaced for the fries) was the highlight of her meal. Unfortunately we also both got sick which we assumed was from the mushrooms as it's the only thing we both had. So this visit gets 2 stars. read more

My friend, daughter, and I dined here to celebrate my graduation. Crystal was our server, and promptly introduced herself. I ordered a blackened seafood combo. I wasn't aware that I could order another side and fries were added. I also ordered stuffed mushrooms. The food came quite quickly and I immediately noticed that my fish was overcooked, the shrimp was heavily seasoned as was the dirty rice . I asked for veggies instead of fries and Crystal honored that. My daughter and I tried the stuffed mushrooms and there was an odd taste but I continued to chew. My daughter immediately spat hers out and said that the shrimp was sour. I told her that I thought it was the lemon juice. I tried another and took the shrimp off to eat separately and it was definitely spoiled. Crystal never asked how the meal was but instead bought a to go box for the meal that had barely been eaten. Within 15 minutes of leaving, my stomach started bubbling and we had to stop at the nearest restaurant stop. We stopped again within 30 mins of leaving due to me having diarrhea. I called the restaurant to complain and spoke with Trey. Trey apologized and said that he'd inform the cook staff. I can't recommend this restaurant to anyone and I will never return. My graduation meal was ruined along with my return trip home to Fort Worth. For those who may question, how do I know it was the food from this establishment? We started off with the crab dip which was amazing!! I would get it again. Also LOVED the garlic rolls. Then, I went with our waitress' recommendation, the Cocodrie which came with 3 fish filets (one blackened, one grilled, and one fried with crawfish etouffee served over rice. So good! My husband had the shrimp trawler. Everything was so tasty- we couldn't even finish these large meals! We couldn't leave without getting 2 beignets which our server suggested some strawberry sauce to go with it- that is a must!! We appreciated our server, Maggie, so much! We didn't know what to expect when we walked it. It kind of resembles a Cracker Barrel due to its merchandise section. Our waitress's name was Amber, and she was a phenomenal representation of southern hospitality. We mentioned we had gotten our baby's pic with Santa at Bass Pro Shop a couple weeks ago, and it turns out she had dated Santa's son the food was amazing--especially the rolls! We asked for another serving of them. I got the Chicken K-jun Bleu, and Boo got the Shrimp Brochette. I luckily had enough leftover to take home for another meal. We will definitely need to return to try their bread pudding, one of my favorite desserts. read more

Used to be one of my favorite places in Louisiana anytime I visited The service at this location started off very slow, but gradually picked up The quality of the food is not what it used to be Many of the ingredients were frozen, not fresh The mixed vegetables were obviously from frozen and laying in half a bowl of butter. The stuffed shrimp was tough and not flavorful. It comes with crab on top, but there was so little you could barely make it out We ordered grilled oysters, and the oysters were so dry and tasteless they were hard to eat My wife got étouffée and shrimp, which was so poorly cooked, She couldn't eat it. In it heyday it was the best, but the food has gotten lazy menu not updated in the kitchen and the one they had you. The actual food was decent quality heavy sauced and no imagination on the seasonings you can tell the kitchen is ran by an employee not a chef. There is a R and K in Lufkin that I used to frequent when I lived in east Texas. Restaurant was well lit despite all the dark colors. The booths were all clean and it smelled clean. And the food? The food was fantastic. Then there's the r and k in Shreveport. It's in the corner of an old strip mall, and has been here for decades. Which is fine and all but man, is it in need of a facelift. All the way around. Was greeted and said I was going to sit at the bar. They have a large bar area, but if you sit at the bar you have only one angle to watch a TV. And when eating solo TV is essential. At least for me. Bartender was great. Polite, accommodating, and checked on me multiple times. The food isn't the same. And maybe it's not a fair comparison. I'm using my experience from 15 years ago in a completely different town. The steak while good flavor was way overcooked. But at that point I didn't want to wait for another steak. I also hate food waste. Don't want to toss it because of me being picky. The Cajun potatoes was good, but very dry. Not how I remember that as well. Just overall it's dark, very dated, and needs some attention to bring it up to a nice restaurant. I know they have the capacity, use Lufkin for a reference. It tasted like it had been in plastic for weeks and then thrown into a microwave and serve to me, don't get me wrong. The staff was very nice and helpful. It was just the food and the atmosphere. I cannot deal with being in that place. I felt like I was being judged with every step I took. So overall would not recommend. We have been coming here for many years for my birthday dinner. It's an hour drive one-way. The food and service used to be top-notch but it has really gone down. Our server was nice but kind of scatter brained but the food was just not great. The bread used to be so good but this time it had garlic butter on top which would have been ok but it was not edible. It was like it had been warmed up in a microwave and was so touch I could barely cut it with a knife. Food was not very hot and just didn't have a lot of flavor. Normally it is very busy this time of year but the restaurant was not crowded. They have changed up the menu and a lot of the old favorites are no longer served. Server never said thank you when she brought our credit card back- after being gone with it several minutes. She was talking to the table behind us and just set it down on the table. It was my birthday and we go there got our drinks. Our food never came out!!! Ask for a manager and he took off for the kitchen. So we got up from our table and waited in the front. A manager came never apologize or sorry just began to check us out and charge for drinks and an appetizer. The hush puppies were over cooked, rock hard and cold, the fish looked like they took one piece of catfish and cut it up 6 times ( cold ) no seasoning at all, the green beans had chunks of mushrooms in them and were sweet ( cold ) the dirty rice ( cold ) and salad were the only things acceptable. Didn't get water brought to the table which is standard for waitstaff. Good menu selection ni had the fried fish. Portion was large so good value for your money. The let do was, there wasn't a flavour punch. Regular flavours and was expecting more from a southern restaurant. Recommend for family on a budget but if you are looking for southern flavours maybe look elsewhere. I did only try one dish so perhaps other menu items provide more flavours. read more

We drive two hours to eat at Ralph and Kacoo's! Our family has eaten there for many years. The food is consistently superb. We always start with raw oysters. Yummy! I had the Ruby yesterday and hubs had the seafood gumbo. Both were excellent! We will visit again soon read more

This is NOT CAJUN FOOD! That said it's not terrible food. It's just disappointing to take someone there thinking they were able to try Cajun food and nothing was Cajun. Anyway, we came in on a Sunday with a fairly large group. I'm pretty sure everyone was ok with the taste of their food. I ordered grilled fish with mango salsa and my server had no idea it was on the menu. I saw it advertised on facebook and wanted to try it. It was pretty good. To end the meal we ordered beignets for the whole group and those were delicious! Almost comparable to Cafe' Du Monde! If I remember correctly they were playing Cajun Music in the background, so there's that. They were able to accommodate our large group with ample seating and the servers kept up with us quite well. As a Cajun, I'll stick to cooking my own Cajun food as the restaurant standard can never measure up. read more

A few people recommended this place, and I think it is possible we were there on a bad night. First off, we stood there for about 10 minutes waiting for the hostess. When she showed up she was visibly annoyed. No hello, just "How many?". She said the wait was 15-20 minutes. That was fine. It ended up being about three, before another hostess sat us. The waitress was nice, but got two of the three entrees wrong. We had ordered queso, that came out cold. All through dinner she kept saying the kitchen was backed up and they would send out another queso, but that never happened. We ordered grilled chicken, it came out blackened. We ordered the boudin burger and got a cheeseburger. We were charged for drinks we didn't order. One of the entrees came out warm, at best. It was just a mess. Some guy came out, presumably the "manager" and said they would discount our bill for the problems. They knocked off $5 and even charged us for the queso. The boudin burger just tasted like dirty rice on a bun. The mixed veggies were just steamed and buttered, not seasoned at all. The voodoo sauce that came on the fish was supposed to have a kick, but just tasted like a butter sauce. One thing I will say, their hot sauces are good. read more

I was in town with my wife and she wanted some seafood. We went here since it was familiar. The restaurant was dark and needed a good cleaning. Dirty glass, food splattered up on walls and not cleaned up. They brought a basket of hush puppy's and some weird garlic canned biscuits. They were in need of 5 to 10 minutes in the oven. I ordered the seafood platter and when it came there were 6 little shriveled oysters on it. These oysters were no bigger than my thumb nail and almost as hard. A professional chef fried these up and put them on a plate! Look at the photo! They put this on a plate and felt good about it. Sad. read more

The food here is absolutely amazing!! I had the blackened chicken primavera which was served with fresh vegetables folded in fettuccini. The portion size was so huge that I made 4 meals out of it. Was an elderly lady -alone-ME- went there to eat 4/11/25 at 8:15pm- the hostess was very kind & seated me immediately. Was 14 minutes before I had to ask a waitress for iced tea or something! she said she'd get me a waitress.I asked "could I just order?" She said sure-I ordered a bowl of seafood jumbo and it was served by a young man that never said a word. He just put down the bowl of gumbo that was no where near warm. It was room temp and the shrimp in it was cool. I had a 6 hr drive behind me, a Mother in the hospital, and had just checked into a close hotel. I came there because I was tired and very hungry- just to be ignored and then grudgingly served cold food. I wear nice clothes, have large diamonds, and my money is green.
