I vomited for approximately 2.5 hours after eating here. I made it to my car and immediately was throwing up. They charged me 3 times the price shown on their menus. I ordered baked catfish with crab on top, gumbo, and étouffée. It arrived looking extremely bizarre. I grew up having family friends cook my Cajun and creole foods on the bayou where you needed a boat to reach their house... I know what the food is supposed to taste like. I am not sure why they claim to know how to cook what they are advertising. It tastes awful. The waitresses were in the corner of the room talking about stealing knives, shouting "white power" and about racism.... Please do not go here or you will get violently ill. I was also throwing up the next day... did I mention all the buildings around it as well as half of its' buildings are condemned? Very unsafe area. Terrible ambiance.

The atmosphere is cool. You feel like you stepped back in time. Service was exceptional. Food was great. It was a fun stop.

What an authentic step back in time! It's a little like you just stepped into a time capsule! If you can tolerate an old building smell, this place is worth the stop!!! I'm a catfish snob, I have to say this place batter was spot on! Fresh fish, that did not even need a lemon ta'boot! That TARTER, well, let's just say, I dunked my fish, fries & the fluffy breaded onion ring in it!! Well seasoned with fresh onions & herbs!! Mmm mmm... Now I'm not gonna hold back, when some place has bread pudding, it's a guaranteed order for this girl. Whew it was beyond sweet, with that toasty white chocolate icing that had been carefully caramelized by the oven, I could not even finish it!!! The staff was quick, my order accurate and on point!

Came from PA for this place and worth it! Beyond incredible food and service! Highly recommend the onion rings and popcorn shrimp! Got the catfish dinner, shrimp poboy and cheeseburger! Go with friends and family so you can sample everyone's meal! All of it is cooked to perfection and portions are excellent! You want authentic Cajun food this is the place! Certainly a time capsule on the inside which makes it extra special and kept the authenticity! Staff went above and beyond, so polite! Checked on us a lot especially for refills of the sweet tea which you'll wanna get! Loved everything about this place! Will certainly come back on my next trip!

This is a restaurant/bar that has been open since the 1930's and still doesn't disappoint. The service is amazing and the food even better.

    Half shrimp poboy and gumbo!

Fun little hole in the wall ! The wait staff was friendly and fast . I would definitely recommend to run by this fun little place .

    Great gumbo.

First off we go here a good bit especially if in Shreveport. Love this place and how long it's been there. Food years ago was AWESOME but it has gone downhill the last few years. It's hit or miss. Last night the food was the worst I have had there and I've been going for 20 years. Gumbo and Shrimp Buster was tasteless. Went with friends who go a lot and it was unanimous. BAD. I'm not sure who is running it now but hope they get a handle on it. Service was good but food just not up to standard. Will we go back. Yes, as we love the place. Just hope it's better.

There is really nothing spectacular here - except history and service. Service is outta this world friendly and helpful. The food is good, and the history is rich and beautiful. This is a place that would drive the restaurant make-over crowd crazy - old, a bit dark, lots of old knick-knacks and nostalgia. And a really small dining room (they also have an outdoor seating area). The kind of place they'd say was dirty and depressing. But is not dirty and it is not depressing!! Regardless of what you think about the space, the service cannot be beat. The food is good - mostly. Our fries were a bit cold, onion rings a bit greasy, but the oyster and shrimp po-boy and shrimp buster were perfect! You owe it to yourself to taste and experience this piece of history!

Etouffe was watery, had no vegetables, no flavor and old black crawfish. Will never come back

Lots of mainly fried fish options, with a few grilled available as well. Fried Catfish! Wonderful proper crisp but light crust on a best ever thick filet light steamed with great flaky large filets. Shrimp really good and sides and gumbo are just right. Parking looked full but plenty of table space still available inside. They are known for very prompt service and food, so they apologized when it was going to take 10 minutes as they had just turned in orders for 2 parties of a dozen. Prices are quite reasonable, getting homemade quality for just about a dollar over commercial chains, with plenty of food on the plate. Unsweet tea was just brewed and better taste than you would expect... Worth the extra short drive around town to get there, and quite fine staff as well. Try it, you'll like it.

However, the overall experience was very disappointing, which is unusual for me because I have eaten here many times in the past and have never had a bad experience until now. We were seated, and our waitress initially greeted us and brought drinks for me, my daughter, and my friend. After that, service became difficult. It took a long time to find our waitress when we needed refills. Eventually, I had to get up myself, and another server from a different section was kind enough to bring our drinks. When the crawfish arrived, they were extremely small for the amount ordered (three and a half pounds). They were not hot--only warm--and very wet, almost as if they hadn't been cooked long enough. It honestly felt like we received the bottom of the barrel. By the time we received the check, I was extremely disappointed, especially considering the amount of money paid. I'm not sure what was going on that night, but this experience did not meet the standard I've come to expect from Crawdaddy's. I truly hope this was just an off night, because this visit was not the Crawdaddy's experience I've had or expected in the past.

I attended with a local friend and he confirmed this is authentic. The experience: Friendly staff, a long restaurant with a bar section, followed by the condiments section, followed by a whole other bar somehow? I didn't poke my head back there but I found that intriguing. More on the condiments: They come with any sandwich. I probably took unfair advantage by taking enough lettuce, tomatoes, and onions to make an entire salad. I then asked for dressing, which they happily provided at no charge. And sandwiches? Do get. Delicious bread. The default bread appears to be the French - you could opt for their sourdough if you like - and it's not toasted. I love soft bread, and the po' boy was divine as a result. I loved the boudin. I loved that they have alligator sausage in multiple places on the menu. I loved everything about this place except the fact that summer means just about all of the beers were light, and I had to hunt and peck to find beers more my style. Which I did. And maybe those beers are lingering as I type this review. But BeauxJax gave me the warm, fuzzy, welcoming feeling I love in a restaurant. A great stop in Bossier. Worth a detour from Shreveport. Legitimate Cajun.

One-Star Review - Unprofessional Conduct That Completely Ruined Our Evening…read moreThis review reflects my personal experience during a visit to The Hunter Crab. After being seated, my wife and I waited an extended period before our main order was even taken. During this time, multiple tables that arrived and were seated after us were able to order and receive their food before we were given the opportunity to place our main order, which immediately set a negative tone. Our appetizer (crab cakes) and drinks arrived in reasonable time, but the issues escalated with the main courses. My wife ordered two clusters of snow crab legs at medium spiciness. When the dish arrived, an entire claw was missing. The plate was taken back and replaced with food that was not what was originally ordered. Instead of medium, it was significantly spicier and caused discomfort when eaten. We have ordered this same dish here before and are familiar with its normal spice level. I ordered the catfish basket with Cajun fries. The fish was extremely hot when served, so I waited before eating it. When I did, it was overcooked in my opinion, rubbery in texture, and the batter separated in large chunks. My wife attempted to speak with a manager but was told no manager was on the premises. A bartender stated the meals could be remade and the bill discounted. Before that could happen, another male employee was brought to our table, and this is where the experience became unacceptable. Rather than listening or attempting to resolve the situation, this employee immediately became combative, argumentative, and dismissive. He repeatedly told my wife she was wrong about the spice level and insisted the food was correct, even after she explained it burned her mouth. His tone was confrontational and unprofessional. When he addressed me, the same behavior continued. I calmly explained the problems with my meal, and he dismissed everything I said, repeatedly insisting the food was great and implying that our experience was incorrect. At no point did he attempt to de-escalate, apologize, or show concern for the customer experience. His focus appeared to be on arguing rather than resolving the issue. Throughout this interaction, I was clearly wearing a combat veteran hat. This restaurant does offer a military discount, and it has been provided to us during prior visits. However, during this visit it was never offered or mentioned at any point, which stood out given the circumstances. At no point did we ask for free food. I stated clearly that I did not want my meal remade and simply wanted to pay and leave. As the employee continued to argue, I stood up to proceed to the register so we could exit. Despite no threats, no physical contact, and no aggressive actions on my part, law enforcement was called, which escalated the situation unnecessarily. When I began recording for my own documentation, the officers' behavior and attempts to block the phone felt intimidating to me, adding further stress. What made this especially upsetting was that the combined behavior of the employee and the officers made it feel as though we would not be allowed to leave unless we paid the full bill, despite everything that had occurred. In that moment, it felt as though disputing the charges or seeking further resolution could lead to further detention or arrest, which was extremely uncomfortable. What should have been an enjoyable date night turned into an overwhelming sense of disappointment. The lack of professionalism, absence of management, hostile employee behavior, and unnecessary escalation completely ruined our evening. We left frustrated, uncomfortable, and stressed, having paid full price with no meaningful resolution or recourse offered for the issues we experienced. This was not simply about food quality--it was about how customers were treated. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend dining here.
