To say they are pet-friendly would be an understatement. On arrival, it was like walking into a kennel - dogs barking from all directions, some off leashes. This went on the enire first day and night. As a dog lover, I was still annoyed, especially when the 430am rounds kicked in. We had the fan running, a noise machine & still got little sleep. The 2nd day was like being in a different campground... far more as expected. Yes, there were still dogs barking once in a while, but it wasn't nonstop and there weren't any roamers. We slept well the rest of our stay with one other downside. The position of the sewer hose connection - it had no threads and was sunken in too far, actually beliw the ground. This prevented us from having a secure connection - meaning we would get odor. We greatly enjoyed the privacy trees, night skies & convenient location. We still feel the pros outweigh the cons, friendly staff & the price is reasonable. We will stay again & will look at getting an adapter to help with the sewer issue... cuz ewww

I was…read moresuper excited as we drove into Grand Marais to see the mini golf as one of the first things along the highway. Animals!! I love animals!! We arrived and no one was behind the counter. It's honesty policy so we paid our cash in the bin and commenced to our mini golfing adventure. It's standard and all the same. One painted miniature per field but no fun or creative twists to the actual holes. Compared to Minneapolis, there was no creativity to the actual goal of hitting the ball into the holes. The goats were absolutely adorable! We had fun looking at them and them looking at us as we hit it. I had a hard time looking at the birds. I didn't know if it because there was no staff present at the time, but the turkey looked agitated the entire time with ruffled feathers and the chickens seemed like they were attacking the other birds. Once again, I'm sure it could be a misunderstanding but I wish the birds could be separated. They kept fighting. It was very distracting from the mediocre holes. The peacock by himself was also gorgeous to look at. I can see why kids would love this place and I very much enjoyed the decor of the place though maybe because of the pandemic, there were a few areas that left us scratching our heads. The holes themselves were a little too basic for my taste- no creativity in the game. However, if you want a slower day in Grand Marais, I think this is a nice spot.

There a good mixture of challenges be it narrow fairways or hitting over a river and fun holes like the short par 3 that's tees off from a high plateau and ends up being a 9 iron type shot. I was about 6 feet from the pin on that one, for the record. Unfortunately we got rained on a couple of times but we just waited out the passing cloud then carried on. Still finished in less than 4 hours. Beautiful course. I hope I get to play again sometime.

Mountain and River are a lot similar in designs so don't be disappointed if they send you River/Canyon or Mountain/Canyon. Just make sure Canyon is your other 9. Only reason not a 5 star. The putting greens are the slowest I have ever played. I am kinda embarrassed to even say a course such as this should never have slow greens.

The staff is great, the greens fees reasonable, and the pro-shop has a decent selection of balls, tees, gloves, and attire to keep you playing. They do not sell, fit, or repair gear but they do sell food and a basic assortment of beer, snacks, and pop. There is a decent practice green and a nice outdoor range/hitting area to warm up before your round. The course itself is a lot of fun to play and I recommend checking it out if you're in the area.

The food at the dinner I attended here was good on a whole -- this was one of the better meals I've eaten at a conference of this nature and I was rather pleased to have been able to attend such an event. I really enjoyed the prime rib and the broccoli. The sound system worked great throughout the evening and there were good sight lines throughout the room for our event. The serving staff were all very professional and did an outstanding job at serving our tables.

The location of Grand Superior Lodge is amazing, just steps from Lake Superior, and you're almost…read moreguaranteed to hear the waves from your room. We stayed in a pet friendly Lake Home Guest Room, and the room itself was nice. It had a queen bed, a twin bed, a small refrigerator, a microwave, and a big bathroom. One thing to note is that the entrance to the neighboring guest room is right next to your door. We were lucky the first night and had no neighbors, but the second night we did and my dog barked at every footstep she heard. Next time, out of respect for our neighbors (and to give our dog more space) we'd probably opt for a pet friendly cabin instead. One nice thing about the guestroom is that you do have a view of the lake. Unfortunately, the restaurant was just okay. We ordered takeout for both dinner and breakfast, and while it was fine, nothing really stood out. I was really looking forward to using the pool, hot tub, and sauna. Sadly, the pool was closed during our stay. The hot tub was open, but I couldn't figure out how to keep the bubbles on, which was a bit of a letdown. The lodge does seem to offer great amenities like bonfire pits and s'mores, which we were excited about. Unfortunately, they weren't out while we were there. I know these are weather dependent, but the weather didn't seem that bad while we were there. The staff were incredible, everyone from the front desk to the restaurant were nice and accommodating to any request we needed.

The real thing probably doesn't live up to the beautiful photography. The fairways are pretty much standard grass - though the greens are well maintained. The rough is really rough - and if you land out of bounds - forget about finding that ball. The sand is very course, almost fine gravel, so you probably want to avoid it. I used one of their pull carts - I'd say it was made in 1948 and was quite squeaky. The clubhouse: more like a trailer. But they serve drinks - just not on the course. Still - there are some interesting holes, and the later holes were in better shape than the early ones. And, the price wasn't that bad. And even a bad day of golf is better than almost anything else.
