I worked with Joe to have a Will and Powers of Attorney done, which I had never done before, and it was a great experience. Initially, I was strongly considering doing something 'simple' like just filling out a cheaper online Will myself, but I'm really glad I didn't, because I quickly realized there are so many things you need to account for, that it is hard to keep these things 'simple'. Joe was able to think of all sorts of important things I definitely wouldn't have thought of, and that I kind of doubt the online form would cover, as they were somewhat unique to my situation. Yes it is more expensive, but I spoke to some other people, and relative to other estate planning packages, I think their fee was pretty normal, and I like that it was a flat fee, so I wasn't worrying about how much time I was spending every time I spoke to him. Joe was very helpful, prompt with his email/phone replies, and direct with his recommendations when he needed to be. And by that I mean, he would often explain some decision I needed to make, give me all the options, and let me choose, which was usually fine, but in the few cases where I chose something that didn't make sense, he would politely and clearly explain why he recommended doing something different. From that, I always felt like I could go against his recommendations if I wanted, but his explanations made a lot of sense and it really seemed like he knew what he was talking about, so I usually followed his lead. Overall, the whole process was much smoother than I thought it would be, and having an experienced professional working on these things with you gives you a great peace of mind that filling out an online form would not. read more

I've called around to at least 20 estate planning lawyers to get quotes and pricing for a will. I just called this one to do the same and I decided to hang up before even finishing giving my information for a call back. Here's why: upon answering When I called the firm a woman answered. (she was very nice but incompetent) she said her name was Samantha, and I laughed and said, oh cool thats my name too! I then explained to her I wanted a quote for a will , and that I didn't have any assets (so I won't need a trust) but that I just wanted to delegate guardianship for my children incase I were to pass. This is where I decided to run....She says "ok, the estate planning lawyer is not in the office but I can take your info so he can call you back, whats your name?" I said Samantha. she goes, "mine too! thats funny." (no shit, we just went over this smh..) She Then says, so you want a quote for a will and trust. I Kindly said no, just a will- but was thinking ( NO! we JUST went over this. I only need a will! ) It's like she literally didn't listen to a single thing I said!!! so then I decided to make an excuse to get off the phone and run from this law firm because If she can't even get my simple inquiry correct, I doubt dealing with the lawyers will be any better! read more

Adam and his team were absolutely amazing through every step of our downtown Chicago condo sale and we HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND them. If I could give 10 stars on yelp, I would. There is nothing more important than working with a team you really trust and can communicate when buying or selling a condo (especially your realtor and your attorney). Adam, Samantha and Imani were terrific - great communicators, they respond quickly to emails and when there was a lot to explain they offered up a phone call on multiple occasions to spend extra time explaining the process. I never felt like the thousands of questions we asked were a burden for them and I really appreciate that. Adam walked us through each step of the process from the first time we talked on the phone, and he and his team let us know early on what paperwork and documents we'd need throughout the closing process so we weren't stressed out or rushed at any point. I recently purchased my first home with the help of Miles and Associates, working specifically with Adam. Pros: - Flat rate for services, so no matter how many emails were needed or how long closing ran (4 hours, in my case), I knew exactly what I was paying. - Their rates are slightly lower than other similarly rated firms on Yelp-- $500 through closing in my case. - Adam was very prompt with email responses, typically getting back to me within a few hours during the business day. This seems to be a huge bonus in this line of work. I almost never called him, so I can't comment on phone responses. - Adam seemed fairly knowledgeable about the process and was able to answer my infinite questions. - Adam also maintained a positive attitude during my closing, which ran long due to a small error from my lender. Cons (mostly about email etiquette--perhaps what gets sacrificed for prompt responses): - Adam's email manners were occasionally rather brusque when addressing my agent and lender-- people on "our side." This may have been partially due to some undue pressure coming from the other attorney, but it sometimes felt like he was blaming one or all of us for not doing something until my lender or agent would point out that it was in fact a mistake on the part of the other lawyer, at which point his tone would change completely. - I also was often unsure exactly what he needed from me versus from my agent or lender until one of them would clarify things. Ultimately, I don't regret using Miles and Associates because they helped me get to closing right on time with a more appealing price and no unpleasant sacrifices, but I just can't give them a glowing review. read more

My husband and I had a very complicated I601 and I212 waiver case and had to hire an attorney no matter what. We searched online for weeks trying to find the best one since we were living in Costa Rica and wanted an attorney from Chicago. We hired Robert after reading his impressive curriculum and experience, plus he did not have any issues with the bar. I am a Costa Rican citizen married to a USC. All of our communication was done over the phone and email but that didn't make it less personal. Robert was always ready to answer all of our questions, always gave us the correct time frames for each process (he said my kind of process could take up to a 1.5 years and that's exactly what happened), guided us through the whole ordeal and basically just told us which documents to provide and what fees to pay. Everything always came with a receipt either from him for professional services or the immigration fees we paid. I am a complete "worrier", I worry about every single thing that can go wrong and I ask a ton of questions. He was always happy to answer them in a timely manner. And if I was still asking questions after he was still answering them! Always with great attitude. With Robert's guidance and expertise we were able to put together a very strong argument as to why my husband couldn't live in Costa Rica and why he needed me with him. Although this is the truth, it is extremely hard to know how to accurately prove this to USCIS, you really have to know how the waiver process works and doing it without a responsible and honest lawyer is not what would recommend to ANYONE. Robert helped us file the waiver and it was approved today, November 21st 2013!!! I owe my happiness to Jesus Christ and Robert, along with all the family members who supported us through the pain and suffering my husband and I endured this past year and a half. He charged me $1500 as ''retainer'' so we had 1 meeting, multiple phone calls, one time I made him to call officer and some copying. WARNING, DO NOT USE THSI LAWYER! I wish I could go lower than one star on this review. Erik Miles is the worst Lawyer you could possibly hire. He made mistake after mistake that almost cost me my condo when I was closing my deal. Luckily for me my Realtor caught most of his mistakes and informed Erik of his many errors and to fix them before closing. He delegates all of his work to his other staff who are not qualified to do the work. When it came time to close Erik was no where to be found.... Instead of Erik (the lawyer I regrettably hired), I got a friend of his to fill in because he decided last minute to hop a flight out of the country to watch a soccer match. I am in my condo now and the place is great, no thanks to Erik, However he never got with the sellers attorney to hash out details about the taxes owed by the previous owner. I now have tax problems (2 days into living in my condo) and Erik is still no where to be found. I leave messages, he doesn't get back, I send emails, he does not respond. I am running out of options here and will have to go into the office to literally force him to do his job. This is not only a Terrible Lawyer we are talking about....but a terrible human being. May god have mercy on his soul. I have never been so upset than when I was when working with this scum of the earth. WOW!!! read more
