Sorry to say this but need to say me and wife went to guse's for lunch specials were meatloaf and chicken fried chicken we got one of each nice place inside clean and friendly people short wait for meals but we're served cold sent back to kitchen and return slightly warm , neither one not really very good don't believe we will be going back! read more

I usually don't write reviews but I have togive one for this place. My boss and I have ate here a few times the first time was pretty good the 2nd time my food was ice cold. We thought we'd try again today her fries were ice cold again and my hamburger was raw! Our waitress said she was going to discount our meal. Worst service I've had in a restaurant for many years. Waitress spent her time talking to her family and other locals. She seemed disgruntled that I interrupted her to ask for menus after my family had been sitting at a table for 15 minutes with no acknowledgement. Specials of the day were hidden on a wall across the room -- not mentioned by the waitress. When the food finally arrived, it was overcooked and the "fresh cut" potato chips had likely been left out open in the kitchen for a week. I would never have expected this experience after being there several times in the last three years. I used to love dining here, but I will have a difficult time walking through Guse's doors again. Our waitress was more concerned about the locals at the bar. Apparently she didn't want to bother with the "out of towners" We never got our drinks refilled, as she never asked. We had an order come out wrong, but let it be. As we didn't see her after she dropped the food and ran. The food itself was good, but we did have 2/5 plates come out cool. When they should have been hot. No one wants to eat cold food, when it's meant to be hot. Sadly, I'm in the area more than she knows. And I will not be returning. The depressed McDonald's workers were friendly than this waitress. I'd recommend takeout, if it's offered. Don't bother with the shitty sit down service. I would like to add, that we watched this waitress tend to ever other table multiple times. Just not ours, it wasn't a case of " a busy night". read more

The Jeannie's pizza with the special sauce on the side is probably one of the best kept secrets in Jacksonville. This has become one of our weekly must haves. We haven't tried anything else since the ownership changed last year but this pizza is a solid YES. read more

After a really long weekend at state competition for tumbling, we decided to stop at Guse's for some food before we hit the road home. A friend from the area recommended it to us. My first impression was wonderful from the start, we walked in and the place was clean and had plenty of seating for our larger group. They had the patio doors open which was really nice after sitting in a hot gym for two days. The menu had plenty of options to suite everyone in the family. Most of us ended up getting the "pigtail" or "piglet" which was curly fries covered in pulled pork and cheese. Big version and small version. One kid got a personal pizza and myself and my husband shared a burger as well. The food was plated nicely and there was plenty. The pizza was BIG for a personal pizza and my daughter ate every bite. I forgot to mention that one person took our order, served us and ran the bar. He never missed a beat and I was impressed. All in all, I plan on eating here every time we come to Jacksonville for a meet and will share our experience with the rest of our team. P.S. sorry my husband sucks at tipping. Super place perfect stop on our 80 mile bicycle ride we had the chicken strip basket and beer, the chicken strips were fresh (not reheated Sams frozen food). They even let us bring our road bikes in ... we are coming back to try the pizza!!! read more

this place was recommended whIke we were visiting, food was okay. service was horrible I haven't had this bad of service in a very long time, Whitney the "bartender " probably was never trained in food service. we had to ask for drinks/ water plates and utensils. then she made you feel like you the customer was a burden. then she would come to the table and ask one of four if they needed anything never asking or looking to see if the other 3 were empty on drinks. once behind the bar she flips her hair forward to then put it in a ponytail then wipes sweet off her forehead never washing her hand. we leave no one even said thank You for coming in. this place could use better staffing. read more

Pizza was average, but edible. However what annoyed me was the fact that they don't tell you upfront that they don't take credit card because their "wifi is down". Seems like a lot of places are doing such practice today to get paid in cash, and conveniently have an atm in the back. Since I was traveling for business and am not from Illinois, the atm didn't allow me to withdraw any cash with neither of my cards. When I told them I couldn't get cash I got frowned upon (for something that wasn't my fault). I should have just walked away the moment that happened, but luckily a nice old man that was having dinner offered to pay my bill. On top of everything the ATM would charge a flat fee to give you the withdrawal, which the customer ends up being obligated to pay. Customer service basics, when that happens you need to apologize for not letting the customer know upfront and simply let them go. The customer is not obligated to know which payment methods the restaurant takes, so please communicate beforehand. read more
