When a Manager Becomes the Reason to Leave a Restaurant!…read more Our visit to Sunny Side Up was unfortunately one of the most unpleasant restaurant experiences we have had in a long time. We stopped by for breakfast before leaving Frankfurt and had already placed our order. I was carrying a paper bag containing a muffin from another shop. The muffin remained in the bag under the table the entire time. I neither ate it nor took it out of the bag. A young man who introduced himself as the manager then approached our table. Instead of addressing the situation politely, professionally, and discreetly, he loudly confronted me in front of other guests in an inappropriate manner. His attitude was aggressive, condescending, and disrespectful. Of course, a restaurant has every right to set rules regarding outside food. No one was questioning that. What was completely unacceptable, however, was the way he chose to treat paying customers. When I explained that I was not eating the muffin and expressed my concern about his behavior, he showed no interest whatsoever in resolving the situation constructively. On the contrary, when I said that we would rather leave under those circumstances, he essentially told us to go ahead. So we left the restaurant, leaving our already served coffee behind. In my opinion, anyone who treats guests in this manner is not suited for a customer-facing role, let alone a management position. Hospitality is not merely about enforcing rules; it is about treating people with respect, tact, and basic decency. His behavior reflected the exact opposite. What I find particularly troubling is that this kind of conduct increasingly seems to be regarded as normal. It feels like a reflection of a broader societal decline in courtesy, respect, and common decency. This is simply not how customers should be treated. The name "Sunny Side Up" appears to aim for an American-style breakfast culture built on friendliness, openness, and good service. Unfortunately, it remains little more than a façade. While the restaurant attempts to imitate an American concept, it fails at the very thing that defines it: friendly, professional, customer-oriented service! We left the restaurant disappointed and upset. Based on this experience, we will not be returning and unfortunately cannot recommend Sunny Side Up.

I'm glad to see that there's a big world out there, and my life's dream is to make my way through it, one cafe at a time, calories be damned. The atmosphere is one of serenity and beauty, with delicious coffee, great lunch options, and beautiful pastries. It makes me hungry all over again, just thinking about Amelie's, and I don't mean just physical hunger. Yup, that was it. Here's what is awesome about this comprehensive buffet for about 33Euros. The maitre'd greets you and offers coffee or tea, juice as she seats you. She does so in a warm and assumptive manner anticipating your needs. The hot line portions are small, so the plates will look patchy when more guests arrive. However, the staff are uber quick to replenish and preen the line to make sure that it is instagram perfect when you return. Otherwise, they are not intrusive and keep a watchful eye to engage guests quickly when needed. The smoked fish, gravadlax was a tier above the norm in quality. So was the prosciutto that was shy of Iberico Ham--just missing the acorn notes. The blood and liver sausages were spot on. Even the condiments here were elevated--large capers, pearl onion, cornichon, wholegrain mustard, dill mustard, horseradish. The Rollmops were delightful. They had a rocking juice bar that included pear juice. Yummy! The strong coffee came in a caraffe--a perfect amount for me. They had pretzel rolls and other whole seed breads and breakfast pastries. Be that I was focusing on a high protein breakfast, I passed. The fried eggs had a lovely orange hue indicative of free range eggs. Did not save room for the omelettes. There was an English Breakfast selection, a plethora of yoghurt options, a full on fruit bar... all of which I passed because I was fixated on the fish! Having conferenced around the world, and started my long days with a high protein breakfast buffet such as this, I am pleased to report that this hotel breakfast is in a tier of its own. Sure, it is pricey, but given the convenience, service, selection and execution, I look forward to eating here the next few mornings.

It was obvious that I was traveling (I had my bags with me) but most of the staff was very gracious when I asked questions about what to order or how to pronounce things, which was very kind. My server went out of her way to check in and to make recommendations. The atmosphere itself is relaxing, cozy, and comfortable, but at the same time so alive with colors and art and interesting things to explore while you eat. There's seating indoors and a spacious sidewalk patio seating area. I ordered a cappuccino to drink and the Power Frühstrück to eat, which ended up being an amazing spread. It included a light omelet, a basket of fresh bread, jam, fruit, cheese, cream cheese, olives and an orange juice. It was plenty of food for a solid meal and was less than 15 euros. I also enjoyed the little touches (even if I couldn't read them!) on the menu about the business and the note from the owner. It all seemed very thoughtfully done. I would love to come back and explore more of the menu and spend a little bit more time enjoying myself in the space!

It is more spacious than one would expect from the outside with about 8 toal tables. Good amount of space and separation between each table. It is on the expensive side (similar coffee is 3,90 euro as t Burhmarkt), but quality is very good. Free wifi, comfortable atmosphere and good coffee make this a place to spend more than a few hours relaxing.
