Fantastic hotel with fantastic service…read more Some of the elevators are TINY so prepare to be uncomfortably close to other passengers. Yes its price may be more premium than others but you will enjoy the close proximity to major landmarks, shopping centers, Christmas markets and an ice skating rink.

A Theft in the Spa, and a Response That Made It Worse…read more Don't go to Grand Hotel, and if you do, don't bring any valuables We stayed at Grand Hôtel Stockholm on April 18-19, checking in at 1 PM on Saturday and checking out Sunday at noon. We have visited Grand Hôtel many times over the years and had every reason to expect the standard of care the hotel is known for. What happened instead -- both the incident itself and how it was handled -- was deeply disappointing and, frankly, unacceptable. During my visit to the spa on Saturday afternoon, my wife's watch was stolen from a locked locker. The locker showed no signs of forced entry, meaning only someone with key access could have opened it. The spa was nearly empty at the time. I was at no point more than a short distance from the locker and did not leave the area unattended. Shortly after the theft was discovered, a member of the spa staff volunteered that they had seen the watch -- confirming it had been in the locker. How the spa staff responded The response from the spa team was, in a word, passive. Rather than immediately escalating the situation internally, alerting management, or securing the area, staff appeared uncertain and slow to act. It was we -- the guests who had just been robbed -- who had to ask for a Manager on Duty to be contacted. This should never have been necessary. At a hotel of this calibre, staff should be trained to respond to a serious security incident immediately and decisively, not wait for a guest to prompt them. How management responded Manager on Duty (Housekeeping Manager) was contacted, but the conversation that followed left us with the clear impression that the severity of the situation was not understood. We were not offered a private room to speak -- the discussion took place standing in the lobby. There was no incident report presented, no clear action plan offered, no security manager called in despite my explicit request. The overriding impression was one of indifference. The hotel did not even offer to cover our spa visit -- we had to raise this myself at checkout. The weeks that followed In the weeks since, we have had numerous meetings and exchanged numerous emails with hotel management, including the CEO. The hotel's internal investigation has now been formally closed with no findings. Their official position, communicated in writing, is that they bear no responsibility -- despite the fact that the theft occurred in a locked locker in a controlled, access-monitored environment operated entirely by their staff. Their response has included suggestions that my wife may have been mistaken about the watch's location, that my wife was briefly in a changing cubicle and therefore not continuously present, and that the possibility of the watch having been accidentally dropped cannot be excluded. These are not serious arguments. They are attempts to avoid accountability. Rather than acknowledging what happened, the hotel has chosen to question my wife's credibility -- casting doubt on her account of events while offering no credible alternative explanation for how a watch disappears from a locked locker in a controlled environment. For a guest who came to them in good faith, this approach has been as distressing as the theft itself. In summary Grand Hôtel Stockholm markets itself as one of Scandinavia's finest luxury hotels. A hotel at that level should be judged not only by how it performs on a normal day, but by how it behaves when something goes seriously wrong. On both counts -- the immediate response and the subsequent handling -- Grand Hôtel has fallen far short of any reasonable standard.
