This is a historical building built in 1870. It isn't a cookie cutter building, either. The hallways and rooms have character. We were on the 4th floor and the room itself is beautifully appointed. Two queen beds with leather headboards, a nice little seating area, good size closet, and a very nice bathroom. The staff was very nice and accommodating. It is in the center of Old Quebec, so perfect for walking. They valet park your car, which is rare here. If definitely stay here again. read more

This is the oldest hotel in Quebec. but it has been nicely maintained and we enjoyed our stay. Our room, while not enormous, was adequate, the bed comfortable with A GREAT shower and more than adequate linens. But what I liked most about the Clarendon is its location and the quaity of the service. It's a stone's throw from Chateau Frontenac and surrounded by great restaurants and shops in the heart of Quebec's old city. It's charming and European and we were very pleased with it. And the service was helpful, friendly and forthcoming. We'd stay here again. Kudos to the hospitality staff, especially "Josh" at the valet desk. read more

The entire hotel is absolutely gorgeous, from the lobby to the hallways to the room. The staff are so friendly and helpful and had multiple dining recommendations. The location is great, right in the center of a lovely street with dozens of restaurants in walking distance (under 5 minutes), and less than 10 minutes from both Fairmont Le Château Frontenac and Le Petit Champlain. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and modern. We were given four coffee pods and also a toothbrush when we asked. The valet service is great, you can call and return your car at anytime and we were able to keep it parked 6 hours after we checked out. We also were able to borrow umbrellas from the hotel all day up until our valet service expired in the evening! read more

Had a GREAT experience from the moment I pulled up and the doorman helped get my bags. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The place was immaculately clean. I loved how modern the bathroom was. The location was fantastic. I love that the room has a fridge. This is such a little thing, but it was so helpful to me... I forgot something in my car, and the Bellman gave me my keys and so I went to the garage across the way where it was parked and was so appreciative that he had backed the car into the space and also left plenty of room to open the trunk without banging it on the wall... I've never actually backed into a space like this, and was very appreciative that he had I've stayed for two nights on the second floor, and I had no noise issues whatsoever... from other hotel guests or from outdoors. I'm staying somewhere else for the second half of my vacation but now I wish I was staying here the whole time! Highly recommend! read more

The hotel is lovely. It's beautiful, well renovated, friendly staff. However, we were on the fourth floor (gorgeous room) and could hear everything that was going on in the room above us until two in the morning. When I asked the front desk about it they said they would send someone to verify, this was at 11. So we got three hours of noise. Loud noise. Unfortunately, nothing could be done. I will admit that the person on the phone was very kind and understanding. The next day, we ordered breakfast as room service. We ordered two mains which cost $80. Normally, I wouldn't have an issue with the price, but everything arrived cold, in a bag, no utensils, and above all, mediocre quality. Furthermore the coffee came cold and without any cover! The waiter told me he got lost in the hotel because he was having a bad day and that is why the coffee was now cold. This is not hygienic and I did not drink the coffee. I understand everyone can have a bad day, but at the very least, don't charge me $80 for inedible food and terrible service. Service is included on the bill. When I checked out, I mentioned all these issues at the front desk. They only said they would mention it to management. Nothing else was done or offered. Absolutely don't mind paying $500 for a night in a nice hotel, but not under these conditions. And if I'm being honest, I was really underwhelmed by the way it was handled at the checkout. Yes, they were kind, but offered absolutely no solution. I even waited a few days before posting, to see if I was going to receive feedback from them. Nothing. If you can afford it, a few hundred dollars more and you can sleep at the Château and avoid these issues. Or a few hundred dollars less and you sleep in a more economical place, again, avoiding these issues. read more

Overall, my friend and I had a wonderful stay here! The hotel was located in the heart of the touristy area and was a short walking distance to Chateau Du Frontenac. The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly enough. We arrived earlier than our check-in time and luckily our room was ready for us. However, they do have a place for you to store your luggages if needed. Weirdly, besides the awesome location, I loved the hand sanitizer (citrusy orange scent) they had in front of the elevators. :) Highly recommend staying here! read more

Wow, just wow! This place is truly a 4-star! Rooms we had is a superior 2 queens and is wide enough with a high ceiling and a large window. Bathroom is iconic! A modern, plush and spacious one! See my pics. Housecleaning service is superb! We requested for a room clean and next thing we know, looks like we checked again into a new room. Bravo! Hotel is located at the center. Walking distance to everything! They do have a valet parking cad $30 per night. They also have a restaurant on the lobby. Concierge speaks english, accomodating and helpful. There is this man who works on nights, i forgot his name but he is knowledgeable of the area and tries to help my baby who is having low grade fever by looking at the first aid box. read more

Stumbled into this beautiful hotel restaurant today, hungry as I was still on East Coast time. It was so early that the bar had only a few people in it and the restaurant was empty but for us. This is a spacious, gorgeous place with excellent service. We ordered: Vegetable soup which ended up being some form of a light leek soup. This was scrumptious with the warm mini ciabatta they brought to the table. 5/5 The goat cheese and vegetable lasagna was served in a pool of yummy tomato sauce and balsamic vinegar. 4/5 The salmon with risotto was good, but the risotto was quite al dente. 3/5. Outstanding stay! Stayed here for 5 nights just after Christmas and couldn't be more pleased. The location was spectacular! We had two rooms, one for the kids and one for my wife and I and they were perfect. Clean and classy. Service in the hotel was spectacular! Anytime we called for anything at all it was to our room within minutes! Front desk was helpful and spoke fluent English. Perhaps the stars of the show were the guys at valet. Again, multilingual, always pleasant and extremely helpful! ps DO NOT EAT at Parmesan. Tourist trap. If you want to be at the center of it all, and I mean ALL!!!, at an affordable price with the right people around you and in a clean and classic environment look no further. On one visit to the Walled City, the Chateau Frontenac was sold out and I had to scramble for another room location - thus the Hotel Clarendon right around the corner. While you won't look out on the St. Lawrence River and you won't pay those Chateau Frontenac prices, you will get a perfectly reasonable hotel room close to the action. To some it's considered "historical" or "a classic." I just see it as old. The hallways are just like the really old apartments in Chicago near the lake, but at least it smells better! For such an old looking room, it has "some" modern amenities, like a coffee maker, phone, alarm clock, and keycard entrance. It also has an iron & board, which isn't always a given! But that's it! The carpet's old, the TV's old, the dresser's old, the chair is old, the bathroom floor is old, and even the window's old! I cut my thumb on the broken screw that was supposed to be the handle, plus the thing slides to the left and there's no screen! I went in the fall, so there weren't any bugs, but I imagine if you tried to open the window in the summer, you might have mosquitoes in your room. Speaking of opening the window, the A/C control in the room is absolutely useless. I walked in the room and it was stuffy, the A/C was on cool, but no matter what temp I set it, it wouldn't start...ever! Also, I'm sure I make a tiny minority of people who rent a room here for work, but there is no desk in the room! There's a small round table, much like one you might find at a Days Inn, but it's shoved into the corner so you can't even really use it for anything! The room's tiny! It's like a 15'x20' room, but put a useless table, a dresser with a TV, fullsize bed, and a chair, and you barely even have enough space to walk from the door to the side of the bed! I can't imagine what it'd be like to have 2 people here! AND the bathroom. Has just enough space to fit a tub, sink, toilet, and space for the door to swing. No more, no less. I had no problems, but I've heard other people complain that the shower goes from hot to cold randomly. Oh, and just FYI, there is a valet, but they're only available from 7am to 11pm. Why do I tell you that? If you valeted your car last night, but need to leave at 6am this morning...too bad, so sad! Enjoy the sunrise while you call work and tell them why you're going to be late today. NOT FOR BUSINESS I may have had a different opinion if I was here to see the river, or if I was a history buff. But I'm here for work, and I can see that outside of this walled city, there is a Hilton highrise, and I would MUCH rather be there! It's not a terrible hotel, I mean, it does the job, but a front desk and a valet that both close at night is annoying! read more

Clean, lovely hotel, my experience was not at all like the reviews from 2012 or earlier. I believe the hotel may have renovated since then. We booked an economy room, generously sized for 3 adults. Prior to arriving, I requested a room facing outward vs the interior courtyard. Since the room is located on the 2nd floor, our view is of the rooftops. Staff were friendly, leave car keys with Concierge for $25/day parking. This is better than hauling your luggage from the nearest public lot 1/2 mile away that costs $17/day. Loved the plush European down duvets, 4 down pillows per bed, free wifi, newish tub, and 37" TV. The economy room does not come with a fridge, only coffee maker (coffee provided is not so good, so I would recommend having lattes at a local bistro). Location is fantastic, within walking distance of a great selection of restaurants just 2 blocks away (exit hotel, turn right at the hotel corner and follow this street to Rue St Louis - or any eateries on Rue St Anne). Our room could use some touch up paint here and there but this is incidental. Overall, I highly rec. Hotel Clarendon. Note: this hotel has 143 rooms so experience will differ greatly vs some of the smaller hotels with less rooms. read more

This place is a gem. We stayed two nights with our 20 month old. The double queen room was large and we had space for the pack n' play and stroller. Clean, a bit old, but clean. It is right in a prime location for sightseeing and parking with the valet was a breeze and a great deal. $25/day with unlimited in's and out's. The front desk and valet are funny, friendly, and very helpful. We considered Chateau Du Frontenac and heard from other travelers that it was not worth it. Stayed there for an evening back in July 2017. The vehicle was packed full of my daughters stuff, including her hockey gear and hockey stick. We used Valet parking to have the added security since we were not going to unpack the entire car for one night. Next morning, the hockey stick was missing. These hockey sticks are $350 per stick. I approached management about it......accused me of accusing their valet driver of stealing the stick. They did not want to address the issue. I was not accusing anyone of anything other than the hotel failing to notify the paying customer of the fact that their valet parking is actually at a public parking garage. There was no sign of forced entry into the vehicle, so either the valet driver did not lock the vehicle, or a theft did occur. If I had known the valet parking was public parking, I would have parked myself or removed some of the valuables. Management would not accept any responsibility. If staying there, use VALET parking at own risk. read more

Others in the group had the wiener schnitzel and raved about it. Price for lunch was about $18-$24 CAD. Very friendly and helpful service. We were there for only one night (from the 2nd to the 3rd of January). All was good until I needed bottle water. They have 3 machines that provides this service and the cost for one bottle is $1.25. We went to all 3 machines to discover that they were all sold out. We told the person at reception and he told us we could go get bottle water from the bar so off we went. Of course the bottles were $3.00 each. I bought them anyway and thought i would talk to the hotel management when checking out to see if they could do something about that. All i wanted was just give me the difference between 1.25 to 3. So on the day of checking out, i asked the reception person, he went to ask his manager and came back, saying they could do absolutely nothing about that. That i was aware of the price of the bottle when i bought it from the bar (which I was) and that they weren't really responsable for the distribution machines on the floors. So i paid the bill (money isn't the problem its the principal). After paying the bill he said, sorry about this and i replied, well, i loved staying here but this 4 dollars really put a damper on things. He looked at me and said, well you could have gone to the convenient store! Yes I could have but i am a guest in this hotel and you are suppose to provide this service, if you can't keep the machine full then dont provide the service at all. He proceeded to tell me that I could have drank from the tap (again yes i could have but I dont and i wanted a bottled water which they provide in distribution machine on 3 floors of this hotel) I said "really? that is your answer?" by this point he was getting rude and condescending and he answered "well I do!". Again i reminded him that I was the guest at this hotel and that from his insulting attitude I will not return again to this hotel, I will also not refer anyone to this hotel. The attitude, the condescending rudeness was not necesairy I had already paid the bill! This is not about the money its about the principale and very poor customer service! That is my experience and i will not return to this hotel, neither will my friends and family if i have anything to do with it. read more

This hotel is old and probably needs some work but the rooms are clean, cool, quiet, the staff are great, and the bed was comfortable. We stayed in room 530, very small but fine for 2. The location couldn't be better if you want to stay inside the wall (which is the best part of this city). Very European, lots of stuff going on, music on the sidewalks, great restaurants, very romantic for couples and not far from the part of town frequented by the millennials. Just make sure you have exact directions for finding the hotel before you go. Great place! read more

VERY small rooms. Only enough room for a queen bed. If you like to work out like me, forget it. I stubbed my toe more than once trying to get around the bed. I glimpsed some of the other more expensive rooms walking by though, and they looked much larger. Bring a cooler because there's no refrigerator. No ventilation in the bathrooms... It gets very hot and steamy. Also the flushing mechanism on the toilet didn't work properly unless you held the lever down almost the entire flush. Depending on what time of day if is, it can take almost ten minutes for the elevator to get you where you want to go, so sometimes taking the stairs is faster. There's two ice machines, one on the 2nd floor and one on the 5th floor, and one small ice bucket per room. Also the walls are very thin, I would recommend bringing a noisemaker if you want to sleep in. While a noisemaker is absolutely wonderful, it doesn't stop odd smells from creeping into the room. My boyfriend and I were woken up about 4 in the morning by the weirdest smell...someone was making something especially pungent in their room. Also the internet is a little moody... Some days it was great other days (like last night when I originally tried posting this but couldnt!) it sucked and I couldn't do a damn thing. Lastly, the location of this hotel is wonderful, right in the middle of Old Quebec. However, one should note that it's at the top of a pretty steep hill. To get to the touristy areas (which is pretty much the whole place) you have to go down a steep hill and then climb up a steep hill to get back. Not a problem if you don't mind a good hike/climb, but if you have someone who is physically impaired or has a problem breathing on exertion, this could be an issue since almost everything in this area is on a big hill. The staff is incredibly friendly and will attempt to help you with whatever you need. Can't sleep? They'll get you hot chocolate or tea. Have a tear in your skirt? They have mini mending packages you can use. Don't know where something is? They'll print out directions for you. The valet service is great, too. Also the climate controls in the rooms worked perfectly... If we wanted our room set at a cold temperature then it was nice and chilly. As noted before this hotel is also in a great location. The shopping districts are a five minute walk away, there are restaurants galore everywhere you turn along with entertainers and beautiful scenery. The one thing I absolutely loved about the room was the bed, comforter, and pillows used... They were so comfortable I'm going to attempt to find some when we get back to the states. A good hotel, I would stay here again (perhaps in a larger room). Would recommend it to others. read more

Horrid!! All I can say is "It's a shame"..BTW, you can only valet park, no underground self-parking as someone stated before. There were no valets to take our luggage so we had to "valet" ourselves. Tiny rooms, and if you want a refrigerator you pay 10. per night extra. Plastic shields on the bathroom door with an additional plastic shield for the doorknob due to the fact that the room door hits the bathroom door when entering; that's how small the room is. Plastic shields on the corners of the walls with the glue coming apart from the walls. The bathroom was strange in that there's a toilet paper "shield" made out of cheap rusty metal that could most likely be circa 60s. The bath tub has an old plastic 60s piece attached to the wall and bathtub with mould growing. The sink has been reattached with plastic caulk on top of the old mouldy caulk and there are hairs visibly "sealed" into the caulk. If you want to take a bath (!) the stopper is lost sideways in the drain and you would have to pick it out with your fingers...The elevator has seen better days. The owners should have more respect for a historic property. Wasted potential, and overpriced in both accommodations and cuisine. They do try with the mattress and bed linens which are very fluffy. read more

This hotel is the worst. Quebec a great experience but thus hotel almost ruined our vacation. The rooms are small. Staff extremely unfriendly. And updates on hotel can fob them justice. The staff charged my card and never made it clear she is booking me for one night by next day once they got reservations for the room from other customer decided to tell me, my husband and 3 children we needed to ck out. U would assume manager is going to try and fix situation , he was as rude and unapologetic as she was. After speaking w me hoe 2 min he went inside and hid in the back office. This hotel is decent for the price, as everyone says it is old but has a few modern aspects and is clean. We were in one of the very small rooms as others described, facing the "courtyard" basically the interior wall just 5 feet away. My husband complained to get another room with a better view. They told us half of all the rooms are courtyard rooms. So just be mindful of this when booking, it may not be apparent what you're getting and could be a disappointment. All in all the stay was good, but it does take a lot of complaining to get moved... read more
