I visited H & H Nail Salon on February 28th as a walk-in and have been sitting on this review for a little while to make sure I reflected fairly on the experience and whether there was anything I may have misunderstood. After giving it some thought, I do believe I clearly communicated what I wanted, and I ultimately feel that I may have been overcharged. To start with the positives, I called ahead to see if they had availability for a walk-in. They told me it would be about 30 minutes, but I was welcome to come early and sit in one of the massage chairs while I waited. I appreciated that and did exactly that. It was relaxing to sit in the chair while they finished with other clients. Once they were ready, my pedicure began. I originally selected a lower-tier service, but the technician explained the Detox Pedicure very well and suggested upgrading. I agreed, and overall the pedicure experience itself was pleasant. While the pedicure was being done, another technician started on my hands with the manicure, but when another walk-in client arrived, that technician left to start a pedicure for the new client. The technician finishing my pedicure then move to her station and continued with my manicure and applied the clear dip. It was a seamless transition and excellent team work. I will say that I did like the quality of her work on my manicure and the dip. However, I did notice something with my pedicure. I had asked for clear polish on my toenails, and while it was drying it looked like some white dust had settled on the polish. I was trying to figure out how to mention it, but when the technician later applied oil to my toenails, the white appearance seemed to disappear and the nails looked glossy, so I assumed it had just needed to be brushed off. When I took a shower later that day my nails looked like I originally saw with a white dusty and matte look to it with some spot shiny. When I went to the register, I was surprised that the total was $130 before tip. I had calculated the $55 Detox Pedicure plus the $45 dip manicure, which I thought would be around $100. I assumed I may have miscalculated and didn't question it at the time, so I paid and left a 20% tip ($26) for a total of $156. When I got to my car and reviewed the receipt, I noticed there was an additional $10 charge listed for a "Cuticle Trim", along with a $20 "Additional Charge". $30 extra on to the bill. At most salons I've been to, the price of a dip manicure already includes the basic manicure prep such as cuticle trimming and nail shaping before the dip is applied. I get my nails done fairly regularly, and this is the first time I've ever been charged a separate and unclear $10 cuticle trim and $20 additional charge fee on top of the dip manicure price. The menu did not clearly indicate this additional charge, and it was never communicated to me beforehand. While I did enjoy the service quality of the manicure and the overall pedicure experience, I was not happy with the final finish of my toenails and was especially disappointed by the lack of transparency in pricing. This experience left me feeling unsettled. Clear communication about pricing, especially additional fees, is important so clients can make informed decisions before services are performed. Unfortunately, I don't feel that happened here. For that I don't plan on returning. read more

This review is coming from someone who never gets her nails done. My nails are SO bad, that I bite them down to the cuticle. No, I'm not over-exaggerating, I literally bite until I literally can't anymore. Sooo basically - I have NO nails what-so-ever. It's a bad habit. I walked in on a Sunday afternoon, they had like 2 other people in there. I was able to seen right away. As someone who is super new to this whole nail world, I walked in with a faint idea of what I wanted but didn't understand the whole sns, dip powder, gel, etc... stuff. I didn't want to be scammed into over-buying something I didn't need because I was clueless, but thankfully these guys didn't do that. I was going to stay simple with just acrylics with regular polish, but they told me since my nails were non-existent, it might be better to do something a little thicker like dip powder and they would put on extra to help the nail look more natural since they were basically working with only a nail bed and no nail. So I agreed, chose a simple color, white, and my nail tech went right to work. This is not one of those frilly nail salons that have chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and serve you alcohol while you get serviced. As long as they're affordable and do good work, that's honestly all I care about. And this place definitely hits that nail on the head! My nail tech made small talk with me and working diligently and efficiently to get my nails done. She was not pushy or pully with my hands which I really appreciated. She put on the extra powder just like she said she would and they came out looking amazing. Roughly took like 45 min for a full set of acrylics with dip powder. They had a 10% off coupon on yelp if you check in which I took advantage of, you just mention it as you check out. Not gonna lie - as a nail newbie, I was nervous walking in. I walked into H&H Nail salon, the greeted me quickly and they were able to take me for a mani and pedi immediately! I love it when they can do both at the same time(if it's not too busy). My dip mail color wasn't my favorite but that's not their fault i went out of my comfort zone and i have gotten compliments as well! I came in the 1st time close to my birthday to have birthday nails. Absolutely LOVED them! Shale was perfect color was exactly what I wanted and I also added a couple decals to my ring fingers. Went back again earlier in the morning a few weeks later to have them done - explained what I wanted (black with hot pink ombré and I wanted them longer - so basically was needing a complete new set) - I didn't get the longer nails, nor did I get the hot pink I wanted. I am so DISAPPOINTED! Initially I read the reviews and decided to try this place out. I made an appointment on Yelp and was initially super happy with the way my nails turned out! I thought, no big deal and was super appreciative but now I am out on vacation and 4 of my nails are broken and cracked. I'm pretty bummed out with the result of my nails. I would always love coming here but I came here Sunday to get an SNS done and I feel like they rushed it honestly. They didn't apply enough coats because it's not even 2 days later and 3 of my natural nails have chipped. The photo is an example of one of my fingers on my left hand and on the right hand I have 2 nails that have also chipped. They only dipped my nails once in the powder, I'm pretty sure they're supposed to do it atleast 2 or 3 times for a thicker coat. I spent $45 for this..... really feel like I got suckered. I've been going here for over 20 years ( over 3 different owners). The quality of the work now is unpredictable. Kevin and Henry are long gone. They don't honor their clients who are thoughtful enough to make an appointment in advance. I went today, for an appointment at 1 pm for a new full set. I was greeted and told to wait "a few minutes". The few minutes turned into over 30 minutes and Ben was nowhere near finished with the client he was working on when I came in. I had to leave at 1:30 in order to have time to make it to another appointment I had at 2 pm. There were only 3 techs working and they obviously took a walk in mani/pedi client at my expense- both time and money wise. It was really hot inside ( can they not afford AC?) and I left hot, bothered, tired, and with untended nails. I have a dinner party tomorrow and am leaving on vacation in a few days and will now have to figure out a plan B for my nail care. I won't be back here. There were a few people in the shop and it looks pretty basic inside but the employees are amazing! They greeted me and helped me choose a color, I asked for stars ahead of time and they had them ready for me. I asked for stars and some little accents around them and she did exactly what I wanted! I have reviewed before but I wanted to review again. Sometimes I go other places, but I always end up back here. This place is not as fancy as some, but you can usually get seen quickly without an appointment. They do a good job for a reasonable price. Everyone is friendly and the customers seem to be repeats who have been coming there for a while. I love that they take the time to actually get any polish that is on your skin off and they will file and buff even gel nails to look nice. Not the case for many of the "fancy" places that charge much more. My only issue is that they need to clean the nail dust off of the drills and tables between every person. read more

I've come here 3 times now. Just for a color change. I like the gel polish. They have a lot of colors to choose from. Takes about an hour. Usually I get 3 layers with the light box in between coats. The gel hardens instantly, which is fantastic. The cost is competitive, they even offer a "happy hour" so great savings during those times. The parking lot can be challenging, as it is a busy shopping center. There is more parking around the corner. read more

I made an appointment through the Yelp app and Kevin responded almost immediately upon my request. I made my appointment for 9:30 on a Saturday. It was 18 degrees this morning and I wasn't sure if I could get out of bed and face the cold. But I'm so glad I did! The salon is cute, clean and neat. The pedi chairs are relaxing and have a ton of functions. There are TV's if you don't feel like staring at your phone. And if drinks are a must for you, they have those too. I was greeted by Kevin and Hannah. I chose my color and sat in my chair. Hannah asked if I wanted a drink and out of the options she gave me I opted for a mimosa. Yes, at 9:30 in the morning. Hannah was super sweet and I truly enjoyed my conversation with her. She was very gentle - I could barely feel her clipping away at my toes. The hot stone pedicure took about an hour and it was the relaxation that I've needed. Halfway through, Kevin refilled my mimosa and I was on cloud 9. On to the manicure - it was super quick and clean. Hannah did the best shellac job around. Personally, I'm not a fan of the thick amount of polish - I like it to be relatively thin and even and she did just that without me having to say anything. I'm so pleased. I've been to many salons around Austin and the lot of them have all the thrills without the talent. If you're looking for a place for superb looking nails and you want to feel relaxed come here.
