Very poor experience with this H&R Block office in Chatsworth. We decided to cancel our tax filing after reviewing the fees and outcome, and were told a refund would be issued. Since then, it has been nothing but delays and unclear communication. We followed up multiple times by phone and even went in person. Each time, we were told the refund would be processed "tomorrow," but that never happened. No clear timeline, no accountability--just being passed from one person to another. The lack of communication and poor management of this situation has been extremely frustrating. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this location. read more

I used H&R Block before but I won't use this location again because she messed up on my taxes. I believe she is the head person of this location because she is here year round. I used Granada Hills location once before in 2023 but my mom says she is happy with the Chatsworth location. So I went there in 2024. She noticed I owe more money to state taxes for 2022. I was surprised but if she says so than I guess I have to pay it. Turns out I did but I actually paid them too much so they refund some of the money back to me. Than the really bad news, I got a letter saying I owe more money to federal taxes. Since I'm so late, I have to pay even more. Much much more money. It's not little at all. I was so depress that I end up in a car accident. Why didn't she noticed I owe more money in federal taxes?!?! She only noticed the state tax? The reason I owe money, I realized that I forgot to mail in my taxes in 2023. So I can not blame the H&R Block in Granada Hills. If you want your taxes done right, avoid going to the Chatsworth location. You may get a terrible surprise! read more

# Before you left the office, make sure they put the right SSN and Your name is right matching with your ID # First time went there it was awesome. The lady Laura Hurtardo was nice. I have no SSN nor ITIN (foreigners) yet and she help me with the W7 form. She put all info and all the numbers that we dont know how but at the result we can get over 5k for tax return. We filing manual since we filed W7. She said it will take 6-8weeks. After waiting 8 weeks we got letter from IRS that my lastname did not match with my ID (lastname before married) so we have to reapply everything and waiting between 8-10weeks. After 4 weeks we got another letter from IRS saying that my husbandS SSN is wrong and they said that we owed tax payment. So they reduce less than 2k. My husband called no one answerd. Leaved voice mail and then they called back and leave voice mssg to my husband. Less than a minute he call back and no answer again. Once he got hold with someone, she said that Laura no longer working there. I guess she work there just for Tax Season and they need to check about our case. I really hope they will figure it out very soon because it really frustrating. read more

I'm in utter disbelief! I met with an accountant at the Chatsworth location, normally I do it with the Woodland Hills location and get it done same day. Now due to the bad flu that 99.9% recover from, I had to meet standing up with a mask and 6ft apart from the accountant in chatsworth. What a mistake! I went over my list of expenses, she crossed off some, asking many questions. I also dropped off my mother's folder too at the same time. I was told it would be done in 3 days, I'd get a call. It never happened. I called and left several messages. No return call? Finally, I just said I need to pick them up. They were saying it wasn't filmished because the 1099 for the trust wasn't supplied. I literally gave every piece of paper work I was given. I went in person. Just to find, NO work had been done! I was told the Original person that took my records, went on furlough, it's their practice? Then I was told they called her to find my records and she can't remember where she put them! She promised to find them and call me. Didn't happen, I went in again. Promised the same thing! I called again the next week today and was told she went to Woodland Hills to find my records?? I turned them in to Chatsworth? I'd be called back in 30 minutes, meanwhile, after 30 minutes. TD Ameritrade emailed me my mom's 1099, I called asking for a email address there that I could forward it to. I was told someone is still looking for my records and to wait to be called back and the person that called me back would give me the correct email so it wouldn't get lost. I never got that call, I left another message I'm beyond mad! read more

We made our tax appointment with Theresa Johnson. She was generally friendly. Our first appointment took close to two hours, but that was because we moved from a different state halfway through the year. Toward the end of this meeting, she told us that she was going to finish the rest of the return. She scheduled for us to come back in two days and told us this would just be to sign and complete the return and would only take a few minutes. When we returned for the second appointment, we waited a little more than 50 minutes. Since we will pay this company close to $600 for our return, I find this unacceptable. As a former retail employee for close to ten years, I can tell you the number one thing about good customer service: give the customer an idea of what they should expect. Under promise and OVER deliver. H&R Block did the opposite. On top of that, once we sat down with Theresa, she sort of just brushed off that we had to wait. She also clearly had not done any work with the return, and it took another hour for her to complete the return with us. This is AFTER we nicely mentioned that we had things to take care of and didn't have a lot of time. Then, at the end of this visit (at this point, we were there at the office for 2.5 hours), she told us she needed more time. For most of our appointment, she didn't even need us there, and this was a huge waste of our time. As a minor note, she also forgot to print paperwork that we sent to her (and stressed that we sent), and we waited for her to go through her email and find the paperwork. Which also took awhile. Lastly, when we reminded her of what she quoted us, she seemed to forgot and is now saying she will "try" to keep the price under this point. They used an old form so my taxes got rejected. Never got a call, never got nothing until I came in heated. My advise is to avoid Anita and Veta, those two are toxic to your taxes. I scheduled an appointment today to renew my ITIN (this is a special # to file taxes)to avoid sending original documentation to IRS that they return in roughly 60 days. The girl on the phone was nice and was swift in scheduling my appointment. I asked her what their fee was for this service but she didn't know and said the tax preparer would give me that information before we got started. When I arrived I was pleasantly greeted by the two young ladies at front desk and was offered coffee. After a few minutes I was called by Laura who was also nice. She asked me what service I needed, I told her just renew my ITIN. She asked if I brought my renewal letter, I gave her the renewal letter and after she took a glance at it she mentioned that I would have to file my taxes with the renewal at the same time. I was confused by this since before going I had reviewed at www.irs.gov all the requirements to renew and this was never mentioned in the requirements. I mentioned I was not prepared for filing just needed to renew. She then said that because we were in tax season the only way I could renew was filing my taxes at the same time otherwise my renewal would be rejected and she wouldn't be able to file my taxes. I left the place confused and frustrated as I felt I was being cornered in taking a service I did not need. I searched for other certified agents in the area and walked in for the same service. The guy that assisted me asked for my renewal letter and politely asked if was just renewing or also needed to file my taxes, he mentioned that if I didn't have the renewal letter I was required to file simultaneously. But if I had the letter I could renew and file later on. I understand the urge to make a buck but all in all you have to look for the best interest of your prospect, you might not make as much as you'd like on that first visit but you'll have a client that returns or refers other potential customers. I filed my taxes on 1/16/14 so they would get filed on the 31st and I could get my return back as fast as possible. Today I called to check when I was getting my return and my taxes had never been filed and they never called to inform me that there was a problem either.. I was not happy at all to say the least.. A manager did call me back and refunded me $40 (half of the amount it cost to file with H & R). My taxes are filed now but this was a stressful experience and it definitely should not have been.. That's why I pay someone to do them for me. So all and all I will pay more and have a professional file my taxes next year. read more

NEVER AGAIN... I believe H&R Block overcharges all their patrons excesses of roughly $175.00 in fees over OTHER tax preparers that do not have the same well known brand-name as they do. I'm willing to pay almost any amount in fees so long as it produces a sensible return on my end but that was not the case. That old saying "you get what you pay for" in my opinion proved untrue. With negligible changes between two consecutive tax filings for 2012 and 2013, I paid approximately $175.00 more with H&R last year than i did with EAS Tax from the year befor that. THERE IS MORE... I came to my appointment very optimistic and prepared - having not only a thumb drive, but also both tablet and laptop computer. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT... Please do not bring your files in any portable manner like an external drive, smartphone, tablet, or even a FRIGGIN LAPTOP. Bacause according to them they are not that caught up in technology. To make matters worse, They had no WiFi and they will not let me physically use the ethernet jacks to retrieve my files. These limitations made things impossible. My only option at the time were to hand them hardcopies or send themem through email via ATTACHMENTS. This meant I had to go to the nearest kinkos to print something. BTW - They also had problems opening email attachments. PATHETIC and SAD in my opinion. read more

Did my taxes here last year and the guy that helped me was very helpful! He did his job efficiently and was very nice. Walked me through everything even though i've been there many of times, I was really happy with my tax return I got so I promised him I would go back to him for the next 5 years, after the year has passed I get a call from a different person informing me that my current tax prep guy has moved to a different location, so I thought ok I'll just set it up with the other guy that called me. Well I called and I was totally fine with trying to set up a date but this lady that answered the phone she kept rushing me, telling me to hurry up and pick a different date because she had someone else on the other line, really??!?
