I've been a customer of H&R block for 10 years now. Never had any issues until this years tax…read moreseason. Brought every document I received through mail and filed my taxes with them and paid my fees. A few weeks later, I received a letter from the IRS saying I needed to send them a copy of my 1095-A. I was confused because I wasn't aware of what it was and where to get it. Did some research on my own and found out it's a California insurance form. Before I enlisted into the regular Army, I was a reservist back in California. I had the Tricare Reserve select and California health insurance. So I contacted the H&R block on Ft Lewis and made them aware of what's going on. We got to the bottom of it and got my copy of the 1095-A. Again, I never received a copy through mail nor was aware I had one at the beginning. I had to pay $96.00 for one piece of paper. That much to do an amendment. I didn't forget to bring the paper in or chose not to file it, I never had it in my possession. I pleaded my case to ask if I can be granted a free pass but I was denied. No sympathy. Well all I can say is, they just lost a loyal customer and I will be spreading this story. I want to make sure people who files with H&R will have a second opinion before filing. I do believe in Karma though. What goes around, comes back around.

Instead of taking the time to figure it out and ensure our taxes were 100% accurate before filing she claimed that I must've made an error on my W4 and I owed the state a ridiculous amount of back taxes. Unfortunately I naively thought I must've been missing something, we were in fact paying this trained tax professional to help us, so maybe we should trust her. When we realized how much we were actually getting screwed, we knew we needed to file an amendment. They were able to get us an appointment, but when we showed up for said appointment they were not even open...we waited for 45 minutes and no one ever showed up despite their posted hours saying they should have opened just prior to our appointment time. Needless to say, I will not be using this H&R Block ever again and I recommend everyone else avoids them as well.

Though the tax preparer who works for them told me he would get my taxes done April 6-7th and his boss should likely be able to review and call me Monday April 8th, I didn't hear from anyone until Friday April 12th, regardless of my repeated calls and leaving messages. Even a text that would've taken 1-2 minutes to reassure me was just too much to expect from them this past week. What I do see is five or six reviews, all sent yesterday by whoever, to bury the truth I revealed in my first Yelp entry a day ago.
