I was recently on a quest for boat insurance and calling around the various big names (Progressive,…read moreState Farm, All State, Liberty Mutual, etc) for quotes. One would expect rates for the same boat to be pretty similar in MN. Wrong! My quotes ranged from $230 to $875. I found the most coverage for the best price at American Family with Luann and Randy Svendsen on Plymouth. Out of curiousity, I also asked them to quote my auto, home, and umbrella policies. Jackpot, I saved a couple hundred dollars over the course of the year by switching everything to them. Luann and Randy were awesome: they helped look through my condo policy to find out what my association covers and how much limit I needed, they walked me through my policies so I would know what was covered and what was not and made adjustments accordingly when I realized I wanted more than what I asked for, we talked about the pros and cons of certain limits, deductibles, and endorsements. They didn't force me to buy anything I didn't need, but a lot of consumers are pretty ignorant about what and how much insurance they need. Luann made sure I was not underinsured and realizing it too late when I didn't recover enough for my lost items/expenses. They also brought me into the office to go over these items (outside their normal business hours because it was convenient for me)--you get better answers and information in person, and frankly a good relationship with your insurance agent is worth a TON if and when you ever need to make a claim. Moral of the story: make sure you get insurance (this includes all you renters out there!), and save some cash money by calling Luann and Randy at American Family.

He never responded to my note early on 4/17 that 'my concerns and anxiety were off the charts'. On 4/18, I got a call from someone else, an office manager, to come pick up my finished taxes . He had returned to his home office. Nick never addressed my question how to plan for the future, He was unresponsive, curt, not helpful, straightforward or honest with me. This is the first negative review I have ever posted; Had Nick done what he said he would do, or had he told me he did not want me as a customer, I would not be writing this. I intend to get a second opinion on his work.

Pretty amazing when they live in another state and conduct their tax prep all by snail or email. For my tax prep fee, I receive an accurate, legal, and timely return, good advice, a fair price, referrals to other competent financial management professionals, and the ability to contact them throughout the year when various questions come up that might affect my tax situation. I don't get nickled and dimed for every question, phone call or email that I initiate and in the 2 or 3 years where there has been an IRS inquiry about a discrepancy, the Rhode, Schwan and Co. professionals have handled the correspondence and explained it all to the feds on my behalf. They are worth every bit of the affordable fee they get because the IRS has backed down each time and I am not behind bars. :) In fact, I am most impressed that they have never looked to take shortcuts or encouraged any type of behavior from me that would be frowned upon by the authorities. I believe in paying my fair share but not a penny more and that is exactly what I get when my tax return is prepared here. Guaranteed, they have my tax business and referrals for life!
