Hiden fees. My wife and scheduled a one on one with a preparer online. Once we got there we were greeted with " What do you want?" When said we came for a 4 o clock appointment, before i finished saying appointment I was cutoff to" I am not doing appointments just drop offs!" The only reason we came in is because we have questions, then very angrily the woman said she can give us 5 minutes. Before I could even asked a question she just wrote down more info she needed and pretty much pushed us out the door. Once she finished our taxes she charged us an outrageous fee that was not near the website stated for $85 plus additional state filing. The fee was 7 times much as expected. There was never any communication regarding any extra fees other than stated on the website. After talking to other tax professionals the fees should have been no more than $350. read more

I am a struggling young man who got 10-99 by my employer and I made less than 12,000 dollars for the entire year and I had to file taxes so I went to this H&R block. They squeezed me for every last dime they could and charged me the highest possible price as if I was running a complicated business I asked why they would charge $400 dollars since I didn't make very much money and $400 dollars was a significant percentage of my entire income for the year and they did not budge or even try to offer any discount. If I had known ahead of time it would cost $400 I would not have used their service. I feel as if I was taken advantage of since they didn't once quote any sort of price and I was blindsided by a $400 dollar charge at the end when it was too late to back out. Do not go here!!!! These people are not looking out for your best interests they only want to take as much money from you as they can. read more

I was charged an outrageous fee of $475.00 because I had 4 w-2's for them to enter in the computer. I was not advised or asked if that would be ok before they prepared my taxes. The whole appointment took less than an hour. That $475.00 fee hurt me significantly financially. The fact that it wasn't even discussed prior to the preparation was unethical. I had been a customer for 25 years and will never go back again. read more

Debra is absolutely amazing! Last year I had a very poor experience with a different tax preparer. I came to H&R Block and Paso Robles this year to have my taxes done, and not only did she do an amazing job with this year's return, she looked at last year's return fixed some errors and got me more money back. I filed my taxes and for my stimulus in 2021 with H&R block i still have not received any of my stimulus checks and I've asked H&R block in paso robles to help me find out why 8 still have not received anything and they have been nothing but rude and unwilling to help me. They offered me 2 choices when i first walked into their office..i could pay $50 dollars right then or they could take $70 out when the money came i chose the to pay the $70 when the money came. But they never came and I've called the IRS but there's no option to speak with a real person so i asked H&R block to help me and they were so rude and lazy and unwilling to help me figure out the problem.. almost 2 years later i still have not received any of my stimulus checks and H&R block's paso Robles branch are still the worst, laziest,rudest stuck up judgmental pieces of shit I've ever felt with..i have tattoos that cover a large portion of my body and it was obvious they thought i was just some low life..that's the only thing that makes sense considering how patient and polite i was to them...I'll never use that branch again and possibly H&R all together...i don't recommend using them ever... read more

Went here instead of my accountant last year. Wow, what a mistake. At the end I got two terrible surprises. First, they are crazy expensive at H&R Block. They charged me $350 for a pretty simple return. I usually pay about $200 for real accounting professional. The second shocker... I got a call from the H&R Block in Paso Robles and they said somebody had already filed under my social security number and that I had apparently been the victim of identity theft. I then had to paper file the return myself and fill out forms with the IRS saying that my identity had been used. I can't tell you how many phone calls, letters and long delays I've been through with the IRS over the past year. I'll just give you the short version and say that it has been a year of hell. Well, now the good(?) news... It turns out that I was not the victim of identity theft after all! H&R Block in Paso Robles got my social security number wrong. They turned a "65" into a "56" and there ya go. You would think that's the kind of thing they might want to double-check. This place is so bad. Stay away. read more

I don't want to throw this place under the bus because the gentleman who helped me was very nice. I guess it's just frustrating when the first time I used there service it was 60 bucks during a promotion and this time it was over $200. The explanation was that I had more forms that needed to be accounted for. Charles is a really nice guy and has helped me more than once. Unfortunately, I won't be back. Very knowledgeable family-owned operation that's been around about 25 years. Yes, they're not the cheapest in town, but remember that you usually get what you pay for and these folks clean up a lot of returns which are poorly prepared by others, resulting in penalties, audits, etc. Their staff is well-trained and put in a lot of educational hours in order to qualify to work for this franchise. You can help them and yourselves by coming in well-organized and not waiting until the day before your taxes are due. read more

Completely disappointed in the service! The lady was extremely rude and was talking down to me when I asked why they were charging me $327 for my return that was only for $353! I have used this tax office for 2 years. Last year after preparing my taxes, they made an error, which was found by IRS. I had to pay for it not like H&R Block said they would. This year I had an appointment with last years tax prep, I arrived early and waited an extra 20 minutes passed my appointment time, the lady who was supposed to do my taxes wasn't available and I was given a newer member. After a long drawn out time and me trying to explain my last years situation, they tried to do my taxes, however when I kept explaining how I had applied quarterly payments to state franchise tax, I got the dear in the headlights look. My preparer then left her desk twice, to check with the lady who did my taxes last year for some type of clarification. Once she got this one hour ordeal figured out, I had to pay over $250.00 for my frustration. Approximately 1 week later I received an unforeseen check from a family estate that was a complete surprise to me. I took my taxes back to H&R Block for an adjustment, dropped them off per their request and a week later was advised they were done and had to pay an additional $150.00. I will NEVER use their services again and CANNOT RECOMMEND their services. This only goes for the Pine street location I have used other tax prep services and had even more detailed taxes. I paid less $ and was guaranteed accuracy and NEVER paid for any adjustments. STAY AWAY read more
