My rating is based on the fact that after being with T. The problem was not due to the actual preparation of the return but to subsequent sloppy handling of it and blatant fabrication of a story to mitigate the circumstances in getting the return back to me for signature. I had requested that the material be sent to an address in Florida where I would be. While there, I inquired as to receiving the packet for signature. I was told that the material was on its way. Not having received my packet in over a week, I again inquired and was told to wait a while. Another week passed so again I inquired and asked as to what address my return had been sent. They did not know because they did not keep a record of it and thus could not be tracked. After a few more days I again inquired and was told the material had been returned by the USPS and they would send it out. About a week later I received the return from T. Allen & Associates. I noticed that my original material, such as W-2s and 1099s were photocopies. In all other years, original material was returned. In questioning this, I was told that the original packet had not actually been returned by USPS, so I received a copy from their file copies. Corroborating the falsehood was that they could still not tell me where the original materials had been mailed to. There was no need to make up a story about the returns coming back to T. Allen. It was uncalled for, false and unprofessional. Furthermore, it puts a bad light on client relationships. T. Allen conceded that errors had been made. What caused him to drop me as a client was that I had labeled his staff incompetent. I did apologize for the poor choice of words since I have never had a problem with the actual tax preparation. I could have been satisfied with simply apologizing for the apparent clerical error in sending my return to a wrong address. However, I explained that what put me over the top, in my choice of the word incompetent, was being lied to by a member of his staff. In fact, I chose that word because I did not want to use the words "being lied to". I realize that the staff member meant well, but he went too far. I had forgotten that I was dropped as a client so I sent my material for the 2023 tax returns to T. Allen. He sent back my materials and a copy of our email correspondence from the previous year to remind me that I was no longer a client. In the emails Allen pointed out that in the email subsequent to our disagreement, he had written that they no longer wished me as a client and that they would return my check for the preparation of the 2022 returns. I checked my records and found that they had cashed my check, rather than returning it as stated. So I wrote him a nice letter, again apologizing for my poor choice of words in criticizing his staff, and reminded him that he was going to return my check. I said I would appreciate receiving the remuneration. Well, a few weeks later and no check. Obviously Allen chose to renege on his initial words. Hence this review.

When I had questions he didn't have answers. I caught something missing from a tax credit from property taxes on his screen and mentioned it and he had no idea. I asked why I had a credit for that line last year but not this year and he said he didn't no. So I asked him to pull up my taxes from the year before since I had them done here by someone else and he said "Do you really want me to try to look that up??" And I said of course that's why I get my taxes done so I get the most of my return. Come to find out it was a property tax credit and it was another $191.00 to my return that he would've missed. He doesn't no his stuff and it took 15 minutes for him to run my credit card in his Square Space card reader. Not to mention he left my W2 in the copy machine and i didn't realize it until I double check all my document. Very pop up shop uncomfortable feel. I do not recommend.
