I had a good experience with Flatirons Advisors in 2024, but I'm updating my review because my 2025…read moreexperience was very negative and I can no longer recommend them. I have complicated crypto taxes and did my best to communicate this from the start, including a 45-minute call with Steve specifically about my crypto taxes before my 2024 return was filed. I made clear that the documents I sent, including a Schedule 1, were generated by my crypto tax software. In 2025, I discovered that the Schedule 1 income I provided had been left off my 2024 return. Steve never asked me what it was, never requested supporting documentation, and never told me he was omitting it. He simply left it off silently. When I raised it, he claimed he hadn't known I had complicated crypto taxes, which I believe is false and I have messages with the firm showing we discussed it. He also declined to prepare my 2025 return due to the crypto complexity, leaving me to find a new preparer on short notice. When I requested a refund of my 2024 prep fee, he refused unless I provided evidence of the income's source. While compiling that, I found that a mistake in my tax software had overstated the figure, and that the corrected amount was lower. I decided the refund wasn't worth pursuing, and I'm having the amendment handled by another firm. Steve was right to question the number. But the professional response was to ask for documentation before filing, not to silently drop income off a return without a word to the client. At no point did he acknowledge any mistake or take any accountability. In my opinion, that handling was not what a client should expect from a tax preparer, and based on my experience, I can't recommend them.

This is my experience going thru an IRS audit of my personal and corporate taxes for 2008…read more I've used Shawn Gregory as my accountant since 2008. In 2010, the IRS decided to audit me for all my transactions and deductions in about 3-4 of my expense accounts. Shawn was VERY helpful assembling all the accounts and deductions in question. He made a binder of all the transactions and reciepts, so the IRS agent wouldn't have to "dig around" in everything. When the IRS agent came, we all sat and talked about the 3-4 accounts in questions. Then Shawn had the audit conducted at HIS OFFICE, so if any questions arose he would be able to answer them. After 3 days of auditing the IRS agent emailed us he had escalated the audit to his branch manager and REGIONAL manager. You could read the evil smirk and the HOME-FUCKING-RUN attitude in his email. WTF!!! Shawn had to bring him back, re-sit down with the auditor and re-explain exactly what was done. There was a dawning realization, then auditor left dejected and issued a letter a month later that there would be no changes and the taxes would be accepted as 100% correct, no adjustments. Oops... sorry guys. False alarm. Thank you, or should I say, THANK YOU!!! My previous audit in 2006 with the State of Washington, my former accountant in Seattle was no where near as diligent and I ended up owing a little over $14,000. They had offered zero assistance. I would tell you indepth my opinion of the IRS and the bragging stories we got the auditor to open up about, but I'd probably get mysteriously audited for the rest of my life. Aside from the audit, Shawn is always courteous, helpful with advice, friendly and professional. His reports are concise and complete. If you need a good accountant for your business (or personal stuff), he has my highest recommedation.
