My favourite place to go for fresh produce!! I had amazing luck this summer for jumping on great deals for flats of berries, persimmons, lots of green vegetables, etc. I've gone to the other locations but this one is I think the best one. Seems larger and better stocked. Also great timing for my Saturday shopping after a good workout! If you have one near you I suggest taking a look! They have general weekly deals as well as each location has its own swath of deals They also got some grains/breads available, some dairy items, and a small selection of non-perishable items. The first off all the H&W locations but also my least favorite. Years ago, I would drive across town to come to this location but the newer locations are all closer to me now. Popped in yesterday and was a bit disappointed to find out this location doesn't carry a few of the staples I get at the other locations. None the less, I came out with two super full bags of produce for $20; this is what keeps me coming back! My only caution to new shoppers is use your produce within a few days of purchase from here. read more

I went here again the other day to pick up a bunch of fruit and veggies. Again, I was so impressed by the prices. We were able to get 3 packages of raspberries for $5.69 when the same amount would have cost nearly $9.00 at any other grocery store. The only reason I removed one star of my previous review is that I found the quality was a little iffy this time. You really had to search through the products in order to find ones without bruises or defects. Don't get me wrong, I will still go to this location. I think in the future, I will just take my time and look through the produce in order to get the best quality for the price. read more

If I could give this place a 3 1/2 I would because it's not so bad, It's a hit or miss type of place. There are times where the veggies and fruits are so fresh as well as cheap but then there are times when you look around and you buy the essentials. Today I came by and it was okay, the veggies I got such as mushrooms, cucumbers, spinach we're just a few from my list that was pretty good looking. Then you hit the fruit section and ahhh it needed some tlc. The limes were 4 for .99 which I don't mind digging through to find some gems but eventually you give up after 8 limes lol. Overall I will be back, I'd rather buy my fruits n veggies here than safeway or superstore. It does keep my wallet happy! read more

The rumours are true - H&W is a pretty kick-ass little produce shop. One of a few locations in Edmonton, this visit to the southside H&W was my first experience with the grocery. You can't get all your grocery shopping done here. It's only produce, but it has a great selection of fruits and veggies - not just your typical apples, bananas, lettuce and tomatoes. They've got plantains, ginger root, all kinds of neat eats. The best part? All of this food is cheap, cheap, cheap! We loaded up for the week for $20, and I didn't see any issues with the freshness. For south siders, this is a great spot for inexpensive and varied produce. read more

I really like that they have a unique verity of fruits and vegetables. H&W is where I go to get my starfruit, cactus pears and dragon-fruit. On top of supply the price is good to boot as well. I'll go in and drop $30 on all fruit and vegetables instead of $50. Location a little out of no where for groceries but well worth the save if you ask me. read more

Great place to get fruit and veggies. Sure they go bad in a few days but that's what perishables are supposed to do. Don't be fooled by the people who say it goes bad too quickly. That just shows that they aren't coating their produce with paraffin and other agents to slow down the natural order of things. If you want to eat healthy you should be buying your produce a couple of times a week not once a week. read more

I was curious to check out the place that has "cheaper than grocery store prices". I went on a friday night and I wasn't very impressed. The freshness is questionable. Most things looked like they were soon to pass their shelf life. For the vegetables in packages I saw all only had three more days left before it expired. And even though the expire date still had a couple more days left... I found the green beans in the packages looked as if they were no longer good. I suppose if you plan on eating the day of, or day after this place would be ok.... but most people (myself included) like their vegetables to last a little longer. I'd rather spend a little more money for product that will last longer. read more

Although H & W produce can be a bit of a drive for non-Milwoods residents to come here, they have a great selection of vegetables at such a cheap price. No kidding! The only drawback is you need to come at the right time of the week. I've made the mistake of coming here a couple of times on a midweek evening and haven't found a lot of fresh vegetables. They really up the ante for the weekend rush, so that's the best time to go! On quite a few occasions now, I've come here and bought like two heavy bags of veggies and fruits and spent under $20 for it. Granted, stuff like watermelon, cauliflower etc. weigh a lot and don't cost that much. But, you get the point. Now, when it comes to selection. I'm amazed. As much as I adhere to being a locavore off late, I find that H & W carries some really unique vegetables and fruits that often times almost exclusively grow in parts of Asia. I've ended up going off the wagon a couple of times when I've had the dire need for some okra. I think on one occasion I noticed 5 different kinds of aubergines ... isn't that weird shit? Yes! Also, maybe 5-6 different kinds of spicy peppers. Need I say more? Definitely a unique experience buying groceries here. Definitely very affordable and even cheaper than Superstore. A bit of a drive and given my new fondness for locally grown stuff, I may not be coming here that often. read more

Great discount produce store! H & W Produce is a locally owned and operated produce company which is great if you want to support a local company over a big chain. Their produce isn't all local of course so if you want to support local producers your better bet would be to go to one of our many many Farmer's Markets. If you do want some good inexpensive produce then this is a great place to check out. I find most of the fruits and vegetables you buy here though must be eaten fairly quickly unless you come on the day its delivered. They also have some unusual stuff that you won't easily find at other grocers. They usually have some locally made bread and pita for sale. There is some other grocery type stuff (salad dressings, juices, milk, etc) but that is very limited. They focus on the fruit on vegetables mostly. I like the feel of this store more than anything else. There are also some other cool shops located in this strip mall. Check out the bakery and Korean grocer for more unique food stuffs! I would love to see more of these small produce shops around Edmonton. Please open one on 109 Street around 65-82 Ave! I miss Debaji's Fresh Market that closed long ago but would welcome an H & W! read more

I loved this place before their Reno and even more now! It seems like some days all I do is grocery shop and this is my first stop for all the fresh veggies and fruit that I need. The store is always clean, you can always find someone to help you (if you're wondering if they have more stock in the back), the music they play is great, they are involved HUGE in the community, the staff if friendly, and you can't beat the prices :) As always, check the produce before you put it in the cart... but also the prices as a lot of time if the produce is nearing the end of it's expiry date it's deeply discounted. If you go to their website (I think... as I don't think it was an app), they usually post discounts/coupons there for the bargain hunters if you're even more of a savvy shopper. read more

I love H&W it's my go to for fresh veg, fruit spices and honey or other goodies they have. The prices are the best I've ever seen her the variety is awesome. I love to walk around and pick the pieces I like it is all laid out loose for you to choose and bag yourself. This place means I don't have to get all the same veggies and fruits every week. The staff are really friendly and they have plenty of boxes if you haven't brought your own bags. I go every week to keep it fresh but once a month I buy onions potatoes spices and other bits I go over the $40 mark so I get the free weekly item they offer this week was potatoes so she just didn't charge me for the bag I picked. I LOVE FREE!!!! I'm not one to enjoy grocery shopping but I love this shop I look forward to it! read more

Love this place! It has become a part of my regular grocery trips. There's three locations in Edmonton; I've been to two, and think it's a great little place. The store is relatively small, as it specializes in produce. The best part? So cheap!! I get all my fruits and veggies here, lots of selection, really good quality (besides bananas not being ripe enough and the bread being a little stale, but could've just been that one time). They have a few other things like some dry pasta, and salad dressings and honey. I got a cardboard box FULL of produce for $30!! And the box was a foot deep, a foot wide and two feet long. They have different deals for different days of the week too. One time I got a free container of strawberries for spending a certain amount. Highly recommend! read more

You won't find better prices at any other grocers so if you live on the south side this is a great place to get your produce from. I loved everything I had heard about H & W before visiting this location - lower prices, fresh produce, and a local business. Unfortunately I was unimpressed and disappointed with my visit. The store was small, and felt run down and dirty. There were pieces of squished fruits and vegetables all over the floor, and herds of kids and adults bumping into me and my cart as I tried to shop. The prices are somewhat lower than a normal grocery store, but I found nothing exceptional in terms of freshness. The avocados and tomatoes were so under-ripe I had to go to Safeway after to finish my shopping, and items that I had been hoping would be of better quality/freshness than a grocery store (i.e. green beans, red peppers) were just as sad and uninspiring as anything at Sobey's or Safeway. When ringing up my purchases, the cashier keyed in at least three of my items incorrectly, perhaps more while I was getting my wallet and bags out. Given that H & W is an extra 10 minute drive from home, the produce wasn't anything special and that I couldn't wait to escape the crowded cramped aisles, I won't be back - the experience wasn't worth the few dollars savings. read more

I was a regular customer; I love that it's local, the prices are often very good, and I'm willing to sort though the produce to find the good ones. However, I was very disappointed by their decision to not accept mask exemptions during this challenging time. I wear a mask while shopping but I know people who legitimately cannot, and I still think those people should be respected and allowed to shop without being harassed or kicked out of stores, and I will not support a business who does not respect human rights. read more

I've heard a lot of rave reviews about this place from friends who know where to get the cheapest produce. In general, this strip mall where this H & W Produce is located is pretty neat. It's located right next to a French bakery, which we will have to try next time. Also, across from it is a Korean grocery store. (Not too far away from a very cool thrift store as well) So, after shopping at the thrift store, I decided to give this store a try! The selection of produce was decent! Everything was neatly placed; shopping experience was mostly pleasant, but the walkways are tight. People kept bumping into me. Price-wise and quality-wise for most produce though, I'd probably stick with Lucky Supermarket and/or Italian Centre. While I was happy to see okra at H & W, it wasn't easy selecting the edible ones; i.e. the ones that come from overly matured plants will be too tough to eat. I feel that, however, to survive at such produce stores, you really need to know how to select your produce as a consumer. There's no guides given to select quality vegetables and fruits. So, this place is for the more experienced produce shopper. I was nonetheless happy to find (Mexican) papaya from H & W; Papayas are great in aiding digestion and is high in Vitamin A. The bought fruit still has yet to ripen. Most Chinese supermarkets import papayas from Thailand -- you usually would have to pay a premium for a small slice. I probably will have to give this store a few more visits before I can really give it a 4 or 5-star rating. Oh, and bring your own bags. It's a nickel per bag. read more

I am a huge fan of H & W Southside, and not just because it gives me an excuse to cross the street for Indian food. I appreciate the freshness, price and selection and haven't found a place with fresher Persian cucumbers or fennel bulb. During the winter there have been times that some items look a bit weary, but while I have decided against something because of lack of freshness they are often coming from the back with replacements. They carry things that you can't easily find elsewhere or if you did it would be at an exorbitant price. Examples : Blood oranges, passion fruit, Kumquats, bosc pears, fresh mint, cactus fruit. Probably the coolest thing is looking at the till receipt when you carry the bag to the car. Crazy great prices! read more

Always have loved shopping here... Great selection, vegies and fruits are always good. Went in yesterday and there was so many rotten foods. Even purchased a lettuce and it was brown to the core. I agree with some of the other reviewers about this H&W location. It's a little crowded and run down. It was very busy during my latest visit and I felt like I was jockeying for position to pick out my fruit and veggies. That being said, their prices are consistently lower than other grocery stores and I was impressed with the quality of the produce I picked up. read more

I've been using H&W for my produce shopping for over a year now, mostly the southside location and a few times on the west end. West end location is nicer and a bit bigger. At both locations, the produce is the reason I keep coming back. The combination of price and quality cannot be beat in Edmonton from what I have seen. I agree that the cheapest stuff is usually right on the edge of going bad, but an attentive produce shopping should be able to recognize that and buy accordingly. The specials though are usually a great value - where else can you buy 3lb of onions for less than $1? I also like that they seem to make an effort to carry a fair amount of BC and Alberta produce. read more

I generally shop at the Victoria Trail or 127 St stores but had occasion to be in the 34 Ave store last week - I was appalled at the state of the store and the lack of professionalism at the till. The store was filthy and disorderly - the staff I dealt with was concerned with her blood sugar levels - not my shopping experience - you may be having an anniversary at that store but I would recommend a gift of starting over be considered - it isn't the first time I have been there and been disappointed in the produce and the store in genral - my favorite and I believe is the best cared for store is on 127 St - and I do most of my fresh veggie shopping at your store so look forward to higher standards in the future. read more

I've given this particular location a fair chance I believe. The first time I was impressed with the quality and the selection they have. On subsequent trips not so much. They still have a vast selection but the quality is definitely lacking. The produce is either overripe and spoils within a day or is spoiled in the store. At least that has been my experience. I will however try other locations as I do like the variety of produce they carry. I should add that they are good with returns if done within 2-3 days. It does state that on the receipt.. But really who wants to keep going back to the store to exchange/refund products when you can go somewhere where quality is guaranteed. read more

H&W Produce is worth checking out if you are looking for a place to buy inexpensive fruits and vegetables. I stumbled upon this store by chance, and now it is on my "go-to" list of places whenever I am on the South side of Edmonton. There are always lots of seasonal fruits and vegetables in stock. Here you will find your regular and familiar produce, as well as occasional exotic fruits and veggies. Some are locally grown, while others are imported from BC and the US. Shelves are never empty and are always restocked with new produce because the turnover is so high. The majority of fruits and vegetables are fresh and crispy, although they seem to go bad a lot faster than fruits and vegetables bought at, let's say, Save On, which may be due to the fact that they are all natural and not coated with paraffin. Not all fruits and veggies are fresh, though. Sometimes there are somewhat old, stale looking products on the shelves. The store gets extremely busy on the weekends, so in order to have the best shopping experience, some as early in the day as possible, or better yet, stop by during the week. read more

My husband and I are on a rather strict budget - like so many others these days. Looking for ways to eat better for less, I discovered H&W online, read the reviews and thought we'd give it a try. Boy, were we impressed! We shop at the north end store (bit of a drive from downtown) every third Thursday, and we've always found the quality and freshness of the produce is fabulous. Three overflowing bags of fresh vegies does us for 3 full weeks at $41.04. I'm quoting my last bill here - so yes, that's $41.04 for 3 weeks of produce for two, very happy and well-fed vegetarians. Remember that this is just a produce store, so look at the Italian Centre on 95th street for great deals on all the other things you can't get here, like fresh cheeses, nuts, grains, beans, milk, eggs. read more

I LOVE going to H&W produce, this is where i get almost all of my fruit and veggies. Sometimes they are very hit or miss so whatever they don't have then i need i'll pick it up at the grocery store when i go to get my soy & canned goods.
