THE freshest tastiest sourdough breads in Edmonton. One of my favourite locally-owned and operated businesses, a trip to this bakery after night shift is one of the highlights of my week. Service is always friendly. The store is often busy with a line out the door, especially on Friday and Saturday after 9 a.m. Here's a few tips to be a better patron and have a better experience: Breads can be ordered online for quick in-store pickup. Some items are made daily, some on certain days only, it's all listed online. They will slice your bread in the store for you if you like. Come as close to opening as possible for best selection, especially on one-off days, e.g. - bagels made only on Wednesdays sell out quickly. They also have a lovely European and Canadian cheese selection! Consider browsing their current cheeses online, as there are many beautiful cheeses but no space to really ogle at them in the store. Come in prepared to avoid hovering for too long in the small customer space. There are a couple other regular non-bread items, like honey, traditional dijon, coffee beans, rillettes/terrine, French butter and recently a small selection of deli meat. One could almost make a mixed charcuterie plate after a quick visit here. Parking behind the business is tight but doable. Street parking is available within quick walking distance in the adjacent neighbourhood. Only d-bags park right out front on 99 Ave, thus blocking an entire lane of traffic. I've noticed it's usually mid-age women in expensive SUVs. Goes with the hood I guess. Eat high-quality bread and be happy! read more

Man, sometimes I miss Montreal and all their delicious boulangeries. Seems like there's one around every corner. Why's it so hard to find a good baguette in Edmonton? Je ne sais pas, mes amies. Well, I've been to Boulangerie Bonjour a couple times now and have to say it's impressed me. If you're looking for artisanal French breads, this is the spot in town. As with most bakeries in town, hours coincide with work hours but don't fret, they're open Saturdays! Be prepared for a line as I went once and it was busy. First trip, I stepped into the bakery around 4pm on a Wednesday afternoon and not surprisingly, their selection of bread was sparse. While I waited my turn, I browsed around and spotted some local vegetables (on sale), jams, and honey for sale. They also carry a variety of cheese from Quebec and Europe. Perfect for the cheese connoisseur. I spotted a couple other baked goodies that looked good. Next time. - Baguette ($3.50) the baguette had that crispy crunch on the outside and pillowy, chewy inside. I cut it into tiny slices, drizzled some olive oil on top and popped it into the oven for a few minutes. Amazing! Might be one of the best baguettes you can get in town. Great mouth feel. - Pain aux raisin ($5.50) - the pain aux raisin was fantastic. Rustic, delicious, this ain't your typical raisin bread. - Pain pailasson ($6.95) - I don't think I've ever had a pain pailasson before but this translate roughly to doormat. I guess that sort of makes sense if you look at it - it somewhats resembles that. This one was the priciest of all the loafs I bought. - Croissant butter ($2.75) - obviously, you have to try a croissant if you're going to a French bakery. Flaky, buttery, the croissant tears apart easily with your fingertips. Stop buying croissants at grocery stores and get them here if you care about things like taste, quality and real ingredients. - Raisin brioche ($2.40) - I wasn't expecting much as it just looks like a typical bun but looks can be deceiving. - Cranberry bread ($6.95) - I'm a sucker for anything with cranberry in it. I'm not sure if they make this every day but grab a loaf if you happen to get lucky like I did. So good! Another shot. Sometimes pictures just speak louder than words. - Sun dried tomato with kalamato olives ($5.95) - last loaf was the sun dried tomato with kalamato olives. You could really taste the freshness of the olives and the tomatoes gave the bread a slight tang. Another loaf I'd get again. Next time, I'm inquiring about their frozen pizza dough (YUM) - hopefully they still make it. Don't forget that it's cash or debit only. All I can say is, ALLEZ! read more

She Who must be obeyed and I are well and truly impressed by the breads being carried out the door by customers who queue out the door. I've passed this bakery several times during frequent visits to Edmonton but my timing was much better this time out. I spied the baguette and epi but ordered and was amazed by their 7 Grain and Rye, Raisin and Walnut bread. So amazed were we that I returned this morning - second day in a row - for baguette and epi. The crust to each carefully protected their soft, airy bread inside and so excited was I that we ate it plain, with Comté and finally with Guittard organic semisweet chocolate, 66%. And the front of house staff were warm, pleasant and eager to serve. Boulangerie Bonjour serves the best bread I've yet had in Alberta. We will return. Oh, we will return. read more

This is an excellent French-style Bakery on 99St between Whyte Ave and Saskatchewan Drive that I recently discovered. It is great to see this strip of 99th Street go through a little revitalization over the last few years. More cool shops and services are opening and new condo redevelopment has been slowly turning this stretch into a great little shopping corridor. The shop has a great selection of breads and some pastries too. I wish I lived closer to this place. How cool would it be to walk down for some fresh bread whenever you need it! They also have some cheese products they sell and it looks like they try to source all of their ingredients and products locally. There is also a small park on the south end of the building where you can sit and relax and even play chess on the provided chess table. You have to bring your own pieces though! read more

This is definitely a destination bakery. They mostly make quality breads but there's no shortage of pastries too. I bought the whole grain bread today but I'm looking forward to getting a loaf of sourdough bread soon. The whole grain bread was delicious, but not so heavy that it's hard to cut or eat. This is a fine bread for dipping in olive oil, making sandwiches or eating just as it is. The service was good as they are happy to suggest a bread type to suit your needs. It's not cheap but quality costs regardless of where you are. There is some parking behind the bakery and free parking on the street if you are lucky. If you can't find parking just go to the opposite side of 99th street and there will be plenty of spots available. read more

Best bread in the city, hands down. We come here weekly and buy at least 2, sometimes 3 loaves for the week. They also have phenomenal pastries and a small but fantastic selection of cheeses (with samples often on offer). They also have frozen pizza dough which is quite good - get some a put it in the freezer for use later. Tip: come during the week for full selection and no line - weekends can get pretty busy. read more

7 am on Saturday morning gives you access to the best sourdough in the city. The pastries are exquisite! They also have a very well stocked cheese deli and have preserves, honey, duck fat and relishes for your at home cooking pleasure. Staff is knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. If you go on a Saturday prior to a holiday be prepared for a very long and very compact line, however it goes quickly and chatting with fellow customers makes it a very pleasant experience. read more

Just fabulous bakery. Every time I passed by it's empty, then I thought it's another dying biz. However, finally had chance went in Saturday noon, waited about 30 mins in line. Bought three rasins, finished on the way walk home, too bad! Lol. read more

Boulangerie makes the absolute BEST bread and pastry in the entire city. The quality of their croissant dough is absolutely fabulous - layered and buttery, not greasy, and soft instead of a hard crunchy shell. Now if only they could make a chocolate almond croissant...... :) read more

She's so professional, kind, knowledgable and patient when you feel like you don't know what to choose and have way too many delicious looking options. The bread is good, but the staff is simply incompetent. They consistently screw up orders (around 50% of the time). Be prepared to waste time going there only to find that they didn't actually make your order. This Christmas was a disaster. While they do take pre-orders, you need to go there in person since they can't be bothered to answer the phone. Since I wasn't able to pre-order, I (like many others) waited outside in the cold for 30 minutes. When I did get inside, I was told there was no more bread!!! They could have at least told people this. If you do patronize them, be prepared for disappointment. They need to hire an actual manager. read more
