Today, for the third time I observed the deli team not changing their gloves between customers or even after working on the shelves outside the deli department. I spoke to a manager last week then again on Thursday I spoke with JR and also called to corporate about the cross contamination that is going on. I was assured with JR that the staff was "coached". Well, today was still happening. One of the ladies that was "coached" on Thursday was not following health department protocol. Spoke to another person today and was told that he would address it. I asked his name and title which I was not given. Time for a call to the health department. Think it's also time to boycott this location. If one department is doing it then they are all doing it. This location is a complete dump and should be an embarrassment to the entire Butt family. The customer service is non existent and they actually expect you to bag your own groceries. I have had "baggers" walk off when I asked them to bag my stuff. And, God forbid you need help with carry out because that is nonexistent too. I live point 4 miles from this store and drive to Alon location because it's nice clean and quiet. The moment Kroger or Albertsons comes back, I will shop there and highly recommend you do the same. I was at Heb this past Wednesday. As I'm walking out . The employees are spraying the carts with the chemicals to kill COVID . The spray gets in my eyes and starts to stinging. The cart pusher tell the other employee just keep spraying while waving his arms like it did not matter my eyes are burning. I go back inside talk to front end manager told her what happened and asked for something wet to wash my eyes . She goes off I'm waiting she tells me the manager is on his way to speak. Never brought me anything for my eyes. I talk to the manager he doesn't seem very concerned. Tells me someone will call me . But no response from HEB. manager said the employees are not to be spraying when customers are around but they always dr o . They spraying outside the wind blows and if it gets into a customers eyes HEB DOESN'T CARE . THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY. I hit cart pusher with my cart because I couldn't see. read more

The Deco district H-E-B on Fredericksburg is the worst managed and run H-E-B or perhaps because it is located in lower socioeconomic area not staffed to have a good customer experience. Go there almost anytime of the day and the checkout line is 4 to 5 deep. I challenge their management and owners to go to any other location and even at peak times it is not more than 2 deep at the checkout counter. Even Wallmart doesn't have those lines at checkout. H-E-B is not valuing their customers time at this location, very sad. read more

This is one of my favorite locations. I am always able to buy a good selection of fruits and veggies for work lunches. Its a large store but not so huge that I need an hour to shop for basic staples. The parking lot can be crazy. I usually don't even bother fighting for a spot at the front. I just park towards the back to avoid all the shark like lurking that people do for a spot by the door. read more

Looking for party trays, and being scared of the ones seen at different stores(um Costco sorry), it seemed like a good idea to check out what old faithful HEB had to offer. At first I was skeptical, thinking it would be the general veggie and cheese trays. Well, I have to give total credit to this HEB for assembling some pretty kickin party trays. For my son's bday party I ordered a small tray of PB&J sandwiches garnished with grapes for the kiddos. It turned out to only be $10! Would have cost me more to make it myself. The brushetta and baguette tray was great with olive and tomato tapenades and fresh crostini. Multiple guests commented on how good it was. The veggie tray came with jalapeno dip, and had fresh crisp selections. The Taste of Tuscany tray was a bit more pricewise ($34.99...still not too bad) and had a variety of olives, regular and spicy cheeses, and roasted peppers. Honestly, I have ordered trays from caterers that were not as good as these trays. It was really impressive too that when I called to confirm the order the deli staff knew exactly what my order contained and when I was picking it up. The specialty party trays are fantastic if you don't want to assemble trays the entire night before the event. It also doesn't hurt that this HEB has a great selection of beer at excellent prices. Even when I don't like a place, I try to give them multiple chances. Because while life isn't fair, I think striving to be fair is important. That said, I've increased my stars a lot. I still detest the location and the traffic surrounding it. BUT - their product selection has gotten a lot better. It's as good as Alon these days, better in some areas. :) The people, particularly the cashiers, are very courteous and quick. I cannot believe what happened yesterday. I bought this meat tray that claims it doesn't expire until April of 2021 well I opened it up the cheese is all moldy and disgusting. I cannot believe the nicest heb in San Antonio sells moldy food. I've never been so disgusted in my life it makes me wonder how much of their other food is moldy like this... here's a picture of the expiration date and the cheese to prove I'm not lying. This meat tray was $10... and they are trying to sell me moldy cheese. I don't even want to attempt to get my money back because I've had nothing but bad experiences with the managers there. They are extremely rude and aren't helpful in the slightest. Every single time I've called that heb and asked for a manager it's always been a rude one even if I just have a simple question. So I wouldn't bother contacting their managers for help. It's also funny how they are super picky about who they hire yet it seems they pick to hire the worst possible employees. I've read other reviews on here and turns out a lot of people have had issues with moldy food and expired food at heb. We have been HEB customers for a long time and we see that quality is not what it used to be. Today we bought shrimp and asparagus for dinner and we could finish our meal. The seafood was better in the past but now it has a smell. We have bought Chilean sea bass at HEB and Groomer's and what a difference! I always shop at this store, and I like this store normally. However, there's a pandemic now, so things have changed. A couple weeks ago they were taking extra precautions, limiting the number of the people in the store, it was safe to go in. I pull up today, mind you, this week and next are supposed to be the WORST weeks for the pandemic. I pull up today, and I can see from my car that there are a TON of people at the store, and there are employees congregating up front, without masks, not social distancing, and not distancing from customers either. I left, and bought everything I needed somewhere else. I don't know why HEB would take precautions two weeks ago, but not now. Maybe I don't know everything that's happening, but I'm having a hard time thinking it's anything other than greed, stupidity, or some combination of the two. Just up the road at another location, maybe a mile or two away, an HEB employee contracted COVID19. So why are the employees not being more cautious? This is insane. The only redeeming factor for HEB right now is that the B stands for Butt. I called in to ask why, and all the girl said was that employees aren't required to social distance. She was polite, but frankly she didn't sound the least bit concerned about what was happening, so I can only assume she's one of the people who aren't taking this seriously. I don't expect this review to change anything, I'm just disappointed. Also, when I was shopping at the other company where they are employing social distancing (including the employees, as much as they can), I mentioned what happened to the clerk, and the woman behind me (6 feet behind me), said she had to leave another HEB location for that exact same reason. read more

Unfortunately I have to only give 1 star. On multiple occasions I have purchased expired food from this location. Today I notified the cashier of foods being sold 4 days past expiration date that I finally caught before bringing home and he immediately notified someone. However I shouldn't need to be notifying a company this large of expired food for sale. They should have systems in place to prevent this from Happening already. The salmon displayed was also packed 3 days prior and on currently on its "sell by date" already. Thought this was a good HEB and that I was the one responsible for letting things sit too long... until I recently realized it was actually that I was purchasing goods that were already expired. You don't "accidentally" put the newer items further back on the display than non expired items. That takes actual effort. I wouldn't say this is an entirely awful HEB as long as you are on point and paying attention to detail on everything you purchase. read more

This location sucks. Some people say that HEB stands for "Here everything's better." I think more like "Here everything's bullshit." I came with my mom because we were having eggnog cravings on Dec 26th. Yup, the day after Christmas. Guess what? NO EGGNOG. Apparently, someone screwed up and the warehouse for the whole chain was shorted. But it gets better... So initially, after scouring the dairy section and not finding the eggnog. we asked the nearest associate, who was by the deli. He just pointed and wouldn't bother taking us over there, because he was "busy." Still nothing. Asked another guy, who restocking some shelves, and we got the same routine. I'm pretty pissed by this point, so I ask for a manager up front. So this short guy with a vest comes out, named "Joe." It was obvious that Joe didn't want to be there that night, with his flush red cheeks and the reek of alcohol on his breath, along with the fact that he wasn't able to help us. He took us back to the dairy department and said "Oh, they're supposed to be here." Uhh, the last time I checked Joe, buttermilk is NOT the same as eggnog. So he said he's check in the back for some. He came out about 4 minutes later, and the alcohol on his breath got a little stronger. I understand if the holiday season might give you the blues, but do your drinking at home, not on the job Joe. And on that note, this store loves to mislabel things. When in the wine aisle, they had wines from Chile labeled as Chili. Apparently someone failed English and Spanish 100, and Geography 100. Or sweet white wine was priced as red wine. Just because this is the only major chain in San Antonio doesn't mean they have to only hire dumb asses who don't care about the customer. As such, I will probably avoid this location (since it's hard to avoid the chain). read more

some of the worst customer service i've experienced, majority of the workers are rude. Almost had a cashier run into me as she had come up behind me and I didn't see her, I apologized and she said nothing. HEB is all about providing Texas hospitality which this store has never met. A lot of the workers really seem like they can't be bothered to be there, including managers/service leads on the front end. Seriously need to get done training done. Avoid or go to the walmart across the street, I've gotten better service there. read more

My 3 star review just about sums this HEB up. It really doesn't grow on you, but it is convinient for me. There are some perks and some real downsides to this HEB. Coming from Houston of course, I got used to some great HEB's, including an amazing Central Market. We moved closer to the I10 area not too long ago and of course this is my go to place. Let me say, it's better than the HEB at Babcock, but still no prize. Upsides to this HEB include the fact that MOST of the time, the produce is fresh and I can always find what I'm looking for here when it comes to that aspect. The breads & tortillas are always great from here and they always seem to carry the fresh baked wheat bread and that's a big plus because even the huge HEB plus we always frequented in Stone Oak didn't carry it much. The guys in the carnivorous (butcher area) are always really helpful and look for what you need if it's not there, which it's frequently not. The downsides for me would have to be that when I haven't had a chance to head to Gabriels for wine, their wine selection at HEB doesn't cut it and they never have what I'd call even good specials. The cheese selection is so-so & staff has never been very friendly (aside from the butchers). Biggest problem with this HEB is that they tend to either be out of or not carry a ton of "ethnic" food items, such as Asian items or Indian and even Italian. I find that I almost always need to go to another store to get one or two items them HEB didn't carry. Biggest turn-off was the pharmacy. I stopped taking my Rx's there because not only are they awful, unprofessional and completely sarcastic, but I've waited an hour for something that I called in hours earlier and I haven't only done this once, but twice at least. When I told the girl at the counter I'd need my Rx called somewhere else and she replied with "yeah okay". Wow....then she proceeded with "have a blessed day!" Let's put it this way....when we're not in a hurry I always consider going to a different HEB, in fact...we were somewhat in between here and the Alon Market and we went there, which reminds me, I need to update my review of there...got a nice new impression of that place and it beats this HEB...by a long shot! I can say that HEB never frowns upon coupons, which is good, actually great because I am a coupon guru. read more

HEB has given the middle finger to small businesses. They refuse to exchange currency. It's unfortunate that the banks are now requiring the actual owner of a business account to come in to exchange currency. The only recourse for managers such as myself was the neighborhood HEB who used to do it for a small fee that I had no problem with. Now I'm flat out refused any service. Thanks HEB! I actually work at heb, but this heb is right next to where I live. Every time we go to this one there is a cashier/bagger that doesn't even greet us at the register. He watched us bag our groceries and waited for us to finish so we could pay. That was so disrespectful since at MY store, we NEVER let customers bag their own groceries since it is OUR job. The employees at this heb need to step it up because the way the store is set up/the gross smell isn't helping people's experience. I don't know if it's just because I hate change or because it's really one of the best - but I love this HEB. I've been a faithful customer at this particular location for about 6 years and have been able to see it progress throughout the years. It is definitely at the top of my list as far as go-to-HEBs are concerned. This location offers plenty of fresh produce/fish/meat options. It is also excellent as far as organic products and healthier options in a regular HEB go (largely due to it's northside location). One thing I have noticed over the recent years of restructuring and remodeling is that as they get more healthy food products in, the lesser healthy options are diminishing. Not necessarily a bad thing, but just know - if you need an expansive option of name brand cookies, there is not much selection. As opposed to dedicating an entire side of the aisle for cookies, it is just a small section of the aisle - good enough for someone needing to run to the store and grab oreos or chocolate chip cookies - but not necessarily a sure bet if you're looking for Chips Ahoy peanut butter chip and chocolate chip cookies. Uhh...not that that's been my problem. ;) Like any other HEB, parking is crazy, but nothing like the Wurzbach and 10 location. If you're not shopping at HEB, then you need to make some lifestyle changes. This place has fantastic balance of local and big name products, it creatively provides options for the area that it is located in. This particular HEB is catered towards young families and college students with a large craft beer selection. Their fruit and veggie selection are fantastic and beat the pulp out of Walmart. Pun intended. The downside to this location...the birds. If bird flu ever becomes an issue in San Antonio, avoid this place like the plague. Yes, that too was a pun. read more

Dirtier than the HEB on Research and 183 in Austin, Texas. Never thought I would encounter a dirty HEB in Northwest San Antonio. Didn't like the General Merchandise items placed in the front while the groceries are placed in the back. Must have hired the contractor that built the HEB on Research in Austin, Texas. Not to mention the crowds on Thursday evening. Will probably not be back. It is just as hard to get into the store just like the Research Dirty-E-B! Dirty-E-B has 2 locations in Texas, the first one is on 12777 IH 10 W and the second one is 10700 Research Blvd. Dirty-E-B "Here everything is dirty, even our shelves!" I really like this HEB. I've been shopping here off and on since 1994. The checkers are much more friendly and polite than at the nearby Walmart, it's not even close. This is my Local Heb an has been for years. I purchase groceries an flowers frequently here. Today I stopped in after work to get some flowers for my oldest daughters birthday tomorrow, an I usually purchase the already wrapped flowers but today they had such a great selection of flowers an colors I decided to pick my own to put together. As I approached the floral employee she turned an acted like she didn't see me approaching which really didn't bother me cause I was in a great mood excited about the nice flowers I just picked an my daughters birthday plus I was off work so I was in no rush an maybe she was trying to finish up an leave. So about two to three min pass an she finally realizes I'm not leaving she turns to help an I explain I would like to get these three different sets of flowers wrapped together an she rudely says to me it's forty percent of the price as to discourage me from getting it done an as overly priced as I think that is for brown paper an 12in of generic ribbon. So without skipping a beat i tell her that's no problem I'd like it done she still has the audacity to grab a calculator an punch in the numbers an tells me are you sure this is going to be the price so with my last ounce of self control I tell her yes please print the ticket so I can pay while you wrap them cause I don't think I can stand here any longer. So I payed an returned to still bitter angry florist who rudely asked for my receipt like after all this I'm going to come back an not pay for these flowers. They were poorly wrapped for forty percent could of used some tissue paper like in the past to compliment the flowers. I'm from Houston and there's definitely not as many HEBs there as there are here. I was told there's even an HEB that sells furniture. This one however is the normal kind with food lol. I started coming here for the coupons even though they can sometimes be super random, they come in handy. I really like how involved they are with the community with the events they hold. I saw they're gonna have the firefighters read books to kids coming up and that's really awesome. Plus the produce is a lot better than the other local grocery store. read more

Extremely bad customer service (a guy named Jacob S couldn't even greet his customers including me, but had no trouble taking my money for the transaction), entire staff is beyond rude, they don't even sell alcohol (a customer told me that they got into trouble, are only aloud to sell beer & wine) and the store needs some organization / cleaning. I love HEB. They have a rocking selection of pretty much everything. The employees are typically helpful here. I took away a star based on the clientele who frequent here. This one isnt as bad as others, but try going in after 430 and be prepared for the cattle run into HEB. Prices are good, lower than walmart and they take all coupons. I prefer this HEB over the HEBplus off of i10 simply because I find the employees to be more helpful. The HEBplus employees act annoyed at you constantly. read more
