Such a good market to find. The prices here are great. They typically have a great selection of fruits and veggies along with a few other miscellaneous products. It's also nice that they have more uncommon things to find such as sprouts. This was my first, but definitely not my last, visit to Chico Boys Fruit Market. I found my new veggie place! I got a small pumpkin to make a pie with, two butternut squash, a bag of onions (three kinds) for $2.50, baking potatoes, sweet potatoes (medium size - the size you can't ever find at HEB/Walmart), the most beautiful cilantro I've seen in years, celery, the biggest & freshest peppers (grabbed a beautiful orange & yellow sweet peppers, bigger than my fist!), fresh tumeric, fresh ginger; they have a fantastic variety of apples. I grabbed a couple of little Granny Smith, & a good sized Fuji. My favorites. All my goodies came out to a mere $27. I am positive if I'd gone to the big chains I would paid no less than $35 to $40, at least. I'll be coming back to Chico Boys long after the Furlough ends. I'm so glad I finally found them. Now, let's touch in those ladies that work there! They are so sweet & helpful. They'll answer any of your question about the foods or recipe cards they have, & yes they have them. I have driven past this produce stand so many times and I've been so eager to stop by and check them out and I finally got the chance and I'm so glad I did! They have amazing fresh fruits and vegetables at the most insane prices I have ever seen! I bought organic pears, grapes, and raspberries that would've cost be over $20 alone, and my whole bill here wasn't even $22! I live VERY far from here, but I often meet with clients on the Southside and I'm making it a point to stop here every time and stock up. Everything is very well organized and clear to read prices. They even have some plants, flowers, and firewood! When you go inside you can also find seasonings, snacks, drinks, and a nice selection of real honey. I don't think I'll ever be able to brag enough but Chicho Boys is my absolute favorite place for fresh produce. I also just learned they have boba! I bought a can and it was only around $2 when a traditional boba place charged around $5-7!!! I recently came by and also grabbed some limes (10 for $1) and cherries! I've driven by this place earlier in the year when I visited the produce terminal but only stopped by yesterday for the first time. I went to River City Produce across the street to get bulk strawberries and blueberries and found out that they have the same owner. I was curious to see what smaller quantity fruits were available and so glad I stopped by. There was quite a selection even though the inside part of the store is not huge. I love peppers and so happy to see that they're 2 for $1. I got the yellow, red, and orange ones. The cherry tomatoes were very reasonable at 99 cents a container. They had the 2 lb size also for $1.99 but that's more than we can finish. I bought one pomelo to try and see if they're anything like the ones I've had in the Philippines. If I'm not mistaken, I think the grapes were like 2 for $1. My husband tried the grapes and said they're sweet! They also have fruit baskets at a reasonable price of $16.99. The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is that the candy heart grapes in plastic containers all had some fruit going bad. I feel they should remove these. Definitely, a must-stop place when in the area. Would save so much money on produce! read more

This place is a hidden gem located next to industrial buildings and the rail road tracks. I haven't visited in a long time because I thought it was cash only but they do accept debit or credit. I stopped by the other day and all the produce looked so appetizing. The tomatoes were plump and red-orange. The grapes were absolutely delicious with a a crisp burst of flavor in each bite. I also found a wonderful assortment of multi-colored organic baby carrots. So much snap in those too. I found really nice dark green kale and a bag of juicy apples. I had juice dripping down my chin. Everything cost me about $12. You can't beat that. Plus, no long HEB lines. It's a quick in and out. I wish we had more small mom and pop specialty shops like this. They even have tshirts and baseball caps with pineapples and other cornucopia fillings on them. I will grab a shirt on my next visit later today. Must get more apples. read more

This is a find in the middle of San Antonio, off e beaten path but well worth it. They have all sorts of fruits and vegetables and in all quantities. They even have freshly prepared fruit treats ! Every time I go, I find specials in the outdoor fenced in area. Last time I got a LARGE box of bananas (honestly about 20-30 pounds) for $7. They were all ripe and super sweet. Of course, that's too much for 1normal family but it was perfect as a donation of healthy snacks for the local Boys & Girls Club after school club. That and some frozen fruit treats were very well received by the kids and staff. For a week or so of produce for a family of 5, I routinely spend $8-$15. If i spend closer to $15, it's because I bpught a couple of freshly prepared agua frescas (totally worth it). We made a trip to Chicho Boys today and it was worth it. The employees were very kind and helpful. AND THE PRICES!!! My goodness, worth the drive. I attached a copy of my receipt so you can see what's going on. We probably got 1-2 weeks worth of fruits/veggies for roughly 20$. We also split a large, freshly made fruit cup. It had layers of watermelon, mango, cantaloupe, honeydew, strawberries, and grapes. They make it in front of you and you have the option of chamoy (homemade or packaged), lime juice, and chile powder. The large, at 32 oz, was well worth the $4.99! We originally came to check out both Chicho Boys and River City Produce. Turns out that River City distributes to Chicho Boys. I talked to gentleman from River City and he said that they distribute more in bulk while Chicho Boys is more of a supermarket environment. So, if you want BOXES of items, go to River City.
