This is a fantastic local store. They're always stocked with great items. They even bring in specialty items from time to time. The prices are a little high for some things but it's worth it to save me a drive when I only need a few things. The staff is great. read more

This is a local grocery store. It has everything you need like a Kroger but owned by locals. The prices are very similar so I suggest people come here to support local business instead of going to big name chain stores. The workers are super friendly and it's a family business. Not to mention their meat and three department at the deli section that are so delicious. Pro tip: sign up for their reward account online and you can clip digital coupons to save money. However the only con I'd say is that you have to click the coupon every time you buy the same item that requires a coupon, otherwise you'd be paying regular price. I wish they just require clicking the coupon once. Overall a great store! read more

Considering the location, this place is not bad. The product selection is good. The deli selection and quality is above average. The beer selection is quite above average for the growing small town location. The place is mostly staffed by teenagers with decent work ethic and manners. I would comment that this place is above average in price, but probably due to the fact that they cannot keep up with the big volume discounts of chains like Food Lion or Walmart. Normally I would like to support local businesses that keep the money in my community instead of those others. read more

Hills isn't bad for milk, eggs, and most dry packaged or canned items, but you do have to really watch the "sell-by" dates on perishable items. About a week ago, I started to pick up a package of mixed salad greens that looked a bit funky and then noticed that the expiration date was sometime last month. Three days ago, I almost put a sleeve of name-brand ground sausage in my cart but thought I'd better check the expiration date. Sure enough, it was several days past its use-by date. On more than one occasion, I'll get the shrink-wrapped broccoli home, only to discover that while the sell-by date is OK, it's limp and rubbery. Out it goes. I hate to have to make the drive to a Publix or Food Lion, but for perishable items, there just isn't any local alternative. read more

This is a fine little store for our small town. My wife complains about the prices but I'm cool with it. I don't know how much eggs are SUPPOSED to cost. The kids working here are very friendly and management seems pretty cool. All locals. Everyone is a friend or neighbor. read more

This is a small grocery store in a small community, so one thing I noticed was that some prices were a bit higher than one would find at Walmart or some other huge retailer. I'm definitely not upset about that since you gotta do what you gotta do. Of course the best way to remedy that is to watch for sales and decide what's worth what price to you. They also have a couple of generic brands for several products (Best Choice and Always Save) to help you in saving a few dollar. One thing I do enjoy here is the 5 for $25 special on their meats (not all meats mind you) such as bacon, ground beef, and various chicken cuts. I like to take $50 and stock my freezer. Their meat is very good quality. My husband and I enjoy the rotisserie chicken from their deli and you can't go wrong for $5.99! Speaking of the deli, I grabbed one of their combo plates on my lunch break and I was very impressed. Chicken tenders and green beans were delicious! Those are between $4-$6. While I would not do my weekly grocery shopping here it's good for grabbing some last minute dinner items you may have forgotten plus stocking up on meat! read more

Hills bought out the local grocer right around turn of the centry ( wow sounds odd looking at it that way). when the big box store built a few miles away. all the local had hopes the charm of the local grocer wounld remain intact. Well, it didn't quite work. They tried for a while but a few years back they gave in to the "corprate" model which is H.G. Hills. Which in my opinion are struggeling tpo find an identity. There closest compitition is a Dollar General Market and its less than 1000 yds away, and out shines them in the produce section. The meat selection leaves alot to be desired, as the best greade of beef you can get is "choice'. As far as I know they constantly run the 5 for $25 deal which is.......... You do the Math!!!, the Butchers are seldom able to help with special cuts and never fail to give the inpression they've just done you a personal favor by doing their job. The place has a Deli counter also, you know, rotissier chicken stuff like that. Meat and three type lunch and a typicail biscuit and (blank) selection for breakfast. This section of the store has had the most notable difference over the past half decade. used too, there was a five day rotation as to what it served for lunch but for the past several months it's been same thing day in, day out and becoming grimier by the day. One bright spot in your visit will be you will probably not wait in a line at check out. there is hardly ever more than 15 people shopping at one time. Used to be high schoolers sgtoking shelves and bagging your grocerys but haven't seen ANY on my past several trips, matter of fact, on my past few trips all the employees have been grand! I go to this store quite often, but I think I will stop. Every time I go here, the employees act like they are doing you a favor and I mean ALL of the employees- including the manager. As far as prices go, they are a little higher because they can get away from charging more. The only other choice if the Dollar General Market and they are mediocre at best when it come to meats and produce. All in all, don't waste your time or money! read more
