In my humble opinion, the talent that comes out to perform at this venue are some of the bet musicians in all of New York. The crowd is welcoming, supportive and really open-minded. From poetry and comedy to punk music, rap, indie, rock and country.. the range of artistry here has no bounds. The theme last night was to dress as your favorite musician and perform their covers. I went as Post Malone and really enjoyed the crowds reaction to my set. Colleen, one of the hosts is always so friendly and welcoming. She even performs herself! Mike, the sound guy extraordinaire, works wonders from behind the sound booth. He's always adjusting levels on the fly and helping each performer sound their very best. And can you believe it... this open mic is free! Just be sure to bring some cash to drop in their magical tip bucket, which helps all wishes come true from the tipper.

This is a cool and chill area where you could hang out with friends or get ready for all the fun. A karaoke room is right next to it if you feel like singing! We grabbed a drink and headed to the concert area where we saw local band Lip Critic and UK band Fat Dog. The sound system was great and the crowd deserves its own compliment - there is no pretentious vibe with everyone just letting loose and having a great time. If you get hot and sweaty from the concert you can walk past the merch table to a nice open patio with picnic tables; we caught a cool breeze here before heading home for the night. TV Eye is a blast giving both laid back vibes and an awesome fun time.

Located in the basement stage room of Bar Freda, this open mic breaks the mold with their epic lighting, phenomenal sound system, very talented sound guy & engaging hosts. Every Monday, from 8pm about midnight, you can enjoy free performances by incredibly talented musicians and poets from all over the world. Some are local New Yorkers, some are transplants, and others are visitors. Tonight there was a wonderful poet from London, a super talented guitarist and singer from LA, and everything in between. Everyone was phenomenal! The creators, I am Adam-Meagan (aka Not Holden Caulfield) and Colleen (aka Sunbeam Colleen), have really created something very special here. This is such a welcoming open mic with an incredibly receptive and supportive crowd. If someone forgets their lyrics or stumbles in a performance, the audience immediately begins cheering their on, which 99% helps get the performer's moral backup and gets them back into their flow state. If you ever want to experience some phenomenal local arts or even perform yourself, you definitely have to check them out!

There is also access to the roof, with an industrial view of Bushwick and the Empire State Building in the distance. This performance space for theater, art, and music right by Bushwick Park, "is a full-scale not-for-profit performance venue and Presenting Organization dedicated to bringing a continuum of art and artists to the Bushwick community". VH and I came here for the Rockers Galore dance party last Saturday, and we had a lot of fun. It made me curious about their theater productions too. Keep an eye on this place.

This is a great venue…read more The Knockdown Center is an old factory that's been repurposed into a streamlined place to see live music, with little extraneous nonsense. It's quick and easy to get through security, and they provide lockers if you don't want to hold all your stuff through the show. It's massive. It must be 10,000 square feet. Which means that while it will get packed up by the stage and some overly aggressive dude might try and fight you for trying to get back to your friends, but if you hang back there will be plenty of room to dance and chill and drink and talk and enjoy the show. There are multiple bars (efficient) where the drinks, while not cheap, could probably be worse. (I don't know about food, as I didn't see any.) Most importantly, the sound is incredible. Right by the stage, or all the way at the back of the main room, my face was melted. I had the pleasure of catching LCD Soundsystem here, and despite the pain it is to get here from where I live, I'll gladly come back for another show.

SARAH, the security guard is a predator!!!!…read more I went to House of Yes last night for Futch, a lesbian dance party. I been a couple times before and met Sarah there. She was always so friendly and flirty with me. Last night I came with my new partner. As soon as we walked in, she was standing nearby and she looked angry seeing us together. The rest of the night, all I could feel were her eyes on me from afar. At one point, she passed by me and secretly caressed my ass. I felt very uncomfortable and asked my partner if we could leave right after. I didn't feel safe asking for a manager to report her as she's already a supervisor security there. This is supposed to be a safe space and I DID NOT FEEL SAFE!!! Apparently from another person there, she gets "around" with girls there and even denied someone entry because they were no longer together. I would think she would be more respectful and keep it professional. I DID NOT CONSENT FOR HER TOUCHING ME LAST NIGHT!!! It's gross to think this is their employer. I will no longer be going back and neither will some of my other friends. It sucks, I really loved that party.
