Last night was our first time here and we couldn't have been more delighted with the food, ambiance, and service. It's like walking into a little restaurant in Mexico, with lovely decorations and painted murals. The music also added to the ambiance, and wasn't too loud ever. Our waiter, Memo, took excellent care of us and always made sure our drinks were refilled. We shared the Fajitas for two (the special tonight), which included strips of chicken and steak with sautéed onions, green peppers and tomatoes. All fajitas are served with rice, refried beans, sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo, and tortillas. The only thing I didn't care for was my glass of Sangria, which was not homemade and I think poured straight out of a bottle. My date ended up drinking it, so it wasn't wasted. We will definitely be back, as this has now become our favorite Mexican place and can't recommend it enough. Know before you go: Saturday dinner special is the Fajitas for two, $23.99. Plenty of parking spaces in their huge parking lot. If you want to avoid the huge dinner crowd, go around 5:30 pm. The restaurant is very clean. Recently feeling restless at home and not wanting to cook, I decided to grab a quick bite of dinner by myself. Earlier that day, someone had talked about really liking the food and ambience here so that's where I went.. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu; took into account my food preferences; and I ended up with this yummy meal. #ChickenMonterey because the salsa was not tart enough for me, he brought me some pico de gallo and mixing the two made the perfect complement for this meal. read more

Had a fabulous meal here today on the patio. The house salsa that came with the chips was some of the best I've had. The fajitas for two was huge and had plenty of steak, chicken and shrimp in it along with the peppers and onions was tomato slices which I found unusual, yet they made it very tasty. A pleasant surprise. Our server was extremely courteous. An overall great experience. We will DEFINITELY be going back. read more

3.5 / 5 for me here - The food/drinks and service were great. However and unfortunately it was a rough restroom experience and some of the area around just appeared neglected or barely maintained. I suppose the best way to get this would probably be takeout or through a delivery service. read more

There always seems to be a debate about how 'Mexican' a Mexican restaurant might be. I guess that's important to some. To me, it's all about the food and the service. Every visit to Habaneros has been excellent in both regards. The food is always tasty and plentiful and the service pleasant and efficient. Truly 'Mexican?' This has always been our go to Mexican spot in the area for years. But lately it's been hit or miss. Sometimes meals are cooked well and are delicious. Other times everything is severely overcooked and steak is like eating leather. I hate sending food back but twice now I have gotten leather served to me. I have never been here before, kept hearing how great the food was. I got chicken fajitas to go. Not only were the person taking my order rude but the girl at the register was very unfriendly. It wasn't a busy time, 5:30 on a thursday. I got home and the chicken was very little, hard as a rock, no flavor. I ate two of the tacos and within about 30 minutes i got very sick. It was definately either bad chicken or veggies. I will never ever go back again, even if they paid me to. Eat at your own risk. Not sure about the ambiance because i did get it to go. read more

The food tastes like it's straight out of a can or jar. Enchiladas Verde had a light stripe of some sort of green (probably bottled) salsa atop it. My Dos Equis was supposedly "on tap," and tasted like cologne. The steak was tough and overcooked. The waiter kept telling us our dishes were "yummy" as he set them down. I beg to differ. The service at this location was outstanding. Our waiter was very helpful and responsive. The ambiance is what you would expect from any other Mexican restaurant, however the food sets this place miles above any other Mexican restaurant I have ever tried. It was delicious, I got a burrito California, and my S/O got the chicken wrap. The chicken wrap is amazing, and the cheese dip is to die for. I would recommend this location 20 times over. Five stars to the manager and employees at this restaurant. They took good care of a man having a health emergency. Would not let him drive and even took him to the address on his drivers license. Which, by the way was not his current address. But an ambulance was called and they took him to a hospital. Possibly saved his life! read more

If you love authentic Mexican, Habernero's is the place for you! We arrived Friday around 7:30 and the place was packed, which is a sign that good foods await! We opted for seating on the outdoor patio. Within a couple minutes, chips and salsa were on our table. The waitress was prompt and took our beverage and then the food order. We ordered the El Tipico, which is a beef burrito smothered in lettuce, tomato, and sour cream and includes refried beans and rice. Habernero's doesn't skimp on the sour cream, refried beans or the rice like many other Mexican restaurants do! I also ordered a beef enchilada on the side. It had lots of sauce and cheese and was absolutely delicious. They also have new menus and they have lots and lots of selections. I have found that no matter what I order, it is great food. read more

I'm so grateful to the friends who invited me to this neighborhood gem because I was blown away by the food and the amazing staff! The prices were great and I left with a full belly and plenty of left-overs for the next day. The margaritas were delicious and I highly recommend the top shelf version, especially if Jose' makes them. You'll thank me later. Jose' was our server as well and he attended to our every need. If you plan to visit on Friday, make sure you get there early. The word is out on how amazing the food and drinks are and it gets pretty busy after work hours. I've eaten here for at least 3 years and never had a bad experience, but today I went to eat with my dad and ordered arroz con pollo and before I ate was mixing my lettuce and sour cream... luckily! Because I found a huge bug in it and not like it just flew in, like it was in there for a good while, the waiter just kind of brushed it off and didn't really seem like he cared. My dad order a beef chimichanga and got a chicken one and took one bite and after he saw mine didn't eat anymore. We just wanted to leave and asked for the check and he just took his food away didn't ask if he wanted a box and didn't take it off the bill, so my family won't be eating here anymore. read more

THIS is the place for Molcajete! Generous portions that really will feed two ppl! The service has always been speedy and accurate. And we still see the same faces after years of patronage, so they must be treating their help right! They also have a wide range of grilled quesadillas (Spinach, chicken, pork, etc.;) and they are ALL good eats! read more

I don't know just about all of these knoxville Mexican restaurants seem to be about the same. The food is mediocre, not high quality, ample portion size, good prices and good drink prices. Wife and I had the lunch skirt steak? fajitas (maybe). The food wasn't bad but chiplolte beats these types of Mexican restaurants hands down. Meat just a little too tough grizzly fatty and greasy for my tastes at Habeneros... Rice and liquefied refried beans just ok... Just a final note.... This was one of the worst dining experiences in my recent memory. I love trying new places and when I walked in I thought it would be a typical, middle of the road Mexican restaurant. It took 15 minutes for us to get our drink order taken. The salsa was subpar at best. When the food arrived, it was cold and bland. Everything tasted old. I got beef nachos, thinking nobody could screw up meat, cheese, nachos. I was surprised by how bland it was. My wife got a dish equally as easy and it tasted like it had been sitting in the window for awhile. My son, who is a picky eater, got a grilled cheese and it was the nastiest grilled cheese I had ever tasted. I was left with so many questions. Why did I stop here? Will I be able to get this taste out of my mouth? Did I do something wrong in life to end up here? Yeah, I don't recommend this place. read more

Trust me when I say I have eaten at hundreds of Mexican restaurants from Nogalis Mexico to all four corners of the US. This place is the closest to "clean" authentic Mexican that you can get in the area. Don't nat waste your time at Three Amigo's unless you want re-heated food. And if your experience is like mine you be sick afterwards. Habaneros is the place for great Mexican food. They have some 1 or 2 bad servers and when they're busy good luck getting in but other then that, two thumbs up. read more

Tasteless American food disguised as Mexican. More to the liking of kids rather than adults who really know Mexican food.

When I go to a Mexican restaurant, I pretty much want one thing. Chicken, refried beans, rice, and cheese in a tortilla. Habaneros does it beautifully. I have only had the burrito California, and I have been there more times than I like to admit. But it's just so good! The frozen strawberry margarita is awesome too. read more

My experience was at the Asheville Hwy location. I always order the fajhitas for two. The meat is tender and seasoned well and the fixins are always fresh and ample. I ordered the same meal today and the meat was cold, tough and not bland. When I returned it the manager didn't express any concern. Told me that's the meat that they always have and seasoned the way it always is. Never said I'm sorry for the inconvenience or expressed any regret that I had to drive to return it. This place is no bueno. My husband and I have been there 3 times. The first time was so so. After the 2nd time thought it was ok enough to go back again. Went back tonight and will not return. First, there was a strange funk in the restaurant. For entrees....my husband ordered the California burrito and said the steak was over cooked. I ordered the 3 taco combo. The rice had a very weird after taste. My husband even thought so. The beans were anemic and bland. I ordered chicken tacos and the chicken was in big chunks and chewy. The shells that were supposed to be crunchy were soggy and one totally even fell apart at the bottom. Dont understand how this place is always as busy as it is. We based our choice of this restaurant by the reviews on yelp. We were looking for a new place to try and was going to be out this way. This by far was the worst restaurant experience in my life. Our waiter was nice, however we waited and waited for guacamole, but he forgot. We had to ask him for it after about 20 min. He said oh you wanted guacamole? Well there was 6 of us total and we ordered 5 soft tacos and a burrito. One hour later we had to ask him where our food was. Once he went to check he comes back with our food. 2 of the tacos were not right at all and had to be sent back. My daughter wanted an additional soft taco but had to go through the manager to make sure it wasn't going to take another hour to get it (which the waiter said would take just as long) It was not busy here this night and I know for a fact that we will not be back. I can pay $40 elsewhere to get really good food and service. read more

If you are looking for Americanized mexican food then Habanero's is your place. I do a lot of pick up orders here because it is about the only thing around east town area and it is usually packed on the weekends. The salsa is good, chips are fresh, and the coke is so bubbly. (Coke + Mexican Food = 4EVER). The food is pretty good and they are incredibly generous with the queso. We usually get the fajita nachos or combo dinner. Z tried a tamal, taco, and enchilada combo and really enjoyed it. Food comes out super fast and the meat is seasoned well and not overly dry. I would definitely pick this restaurant over others in the area. read more
