Second time at Habaneros. We both got the same dishes. Tres amigos for me and fish and shrimp tacos for my lady. And I didn't think it possible they were better than the first go around. Plain and simple from now on we come thru Morganton we are eating at Habanero's. It's maybe the best Mexican food I've ever eaten. We had a great conversation with a couple that comes here often and they said there k a another location but it's just not the same. The food is average the service is bad. Asking for a napkin seemed like a big chore for our server. They send out sour cream instead of guacamole, but no big deal when we let the server know. They never took the extra sour cream off the bill, I know, first world problems, but this has been an issue with wait staff for years, this place just gets worse and worse. The only reason I come here is the last few Saturdays is El Mail has a line out the door and this place has only a few tables occupied, so it's easy to get in.. read more

Wow! Great food and super nice people! We had planned to eat at Mountain Burrito but once again they close WAY too early so we tried Habaneros because of the good reviews. We got so much food and everything was delicious!! My husband got the Jalisco fajitas and said it was the best he had ever had! Then my son got the Burrito Mexicano and he couldn't eat it all but said it was so good!! My daughter and I got a side of rice with queso and chips and it was great!! We will be back! Do not miss the salsa bar. It's is off to the side and no one mentions it. It makes the entire meal. Chips and super-bland salsa delivered with drinks. Lunch specials are very cheap, served with choice of beans or rice. I had special #9 with rice. Soccer on the 2 tv's in he front section. Enchilada and burrito (flour) were OK, but not hit until added green jalapeño and red habanero sauce rep salsa bar. read more

Wow. Ordered "Cocktail Campechana" and "Pollo Habanero" take-out. Cocktail Campanchana" is basically a shrimp and octopus shrimp cocktail. Cold. Got flavorless, hot shrimp only. Pollo Habanero (one of the hottest peppers on earth)--got some kind of plain, flavorless steamed chicken. Called them and was told BY THE MANAGER ON DUTY 8/13/2021 at 7pm that the menu description does not say there is any, actual habanero peppers in it, nor that is is spicy, so out of luck. And even though the other item was supposed to be a COLD shrimp and octopus cocktail, since they sent some warm, flavorless shrimp, they can only refund half the price. No offer to come get what we had ordered, just a "Sorry about your luck". Las Salsa's is a more fun atmosphere and better menu. We picked this place because it is closer for carryout. We stopped here after a day long hike at Tablerock Mtn and we were absolutely famished. The food was excellent and the customer service was just as great! I am from Arizona, where good Mexican restaurants can be found everywhere, and I can honestly say that Habaneros beats most of them. This place is the real deal, run by people with roots south of the border who know what authentic Mexican food is. The menu is huge, the prices are more than reasonable, and the food I've had there is incredibly delicious. For a taste experience, try the house specialty Sherry Burrito or the Habaneros Quesadilla. Basic chicken or beef burritos are far from basic, with flavorful meats that aren't watery. Add their green enchilada sauce to make them extra tasty. My mother-in-law loves the spinach quesadilla so much she orders it every time she eats here. Don't miss the flan for dessert: a large, smooth, caramelly portion for only $2.50? Yes! Unheard of! Last year I was in town and was sad to find they had run out of flan. The incredibly friendly and service-oriented owner actually drove across town to his other location to get me some while I sat there in the restaurant! Wow! How's THAT for service! Who does that? Well, he did, and I was utterly impressed. Habaneros will make you anything you want if they can do it, even if it's not on the already expansive menu. Don't go anywhere else in Burke County for Mexican food. Try Habaneros first. read more

I ordered the Acp for take out. I arrived and asked for my order and the woman at the counter looked at me funny. She said she didn't have a order so I said that I just called it in. Then she said maybe you called other Habaneros, I didn't even know there was two restaurants by that name in this town but ok I made a mistake. So I asked to just get my order made here because I'm on lunch and don't have enough time to go to others side of town and this is where they lost my business. She argued with me, she said I needed to go get my order on the others side of town. I replied as politely as I could that I just wanted to reorder at the restaurant I was standing in, but she kept arguing and would not take my order. I threw my hands up and said keep it, I'll never be back. Really makes mad because the food is really good and normally the service is great but I work retail and you do not argue with a customer. read more

Driving through the old feeling back roads off the area I would have never expected to find those little piece of Sketchy neighborhood Mexico. Upon arrival i was greeted by a no public restrooms sign, but man did i have to pee and i am the public, so laws and rules be damned i publicly used the somewhat burrito smelling facilities. my bladder relieved, my party and i were seated. It wasn't long before the father of a mohawked youth started stink eying me. I never followed up on that, but the environment was tainted from there on. On to the food! I got the fajita quesadilla, it looked delicious-esque it was steaming and hot when i got it but three fork requests later, not so much....plus the beans had crusted over at this point liked a murky ice covered lake of gas production mush. Then, the clown.....hand painted and parachute clad, it will forever haunt my dreams.... So let's review, there is a fork shortage, bathrooms are well guarded sanctuaries of poop, the food is kinda blah at best. My overall experience was not great, probably won't be going back, not just because i don't really travel this way either. On the bright side, i haven't vomited or pooped on my self or vomipooped, so all in all a successful lunch. read more
