Stumbled on this coming home from a hike. There is a ton of TLC they put in their food here, the Papusas stole the show. My wife is a vegetarian so they improvised a couple for her on the spot based on what was fresh in the kitchen. Side note this is in a spot that feels very industrial so you might miss it if you are not looking closely. read more

This is the real deal. I used to go to El Salvador often and their papusas are the best I've had in the states. The ST Julian Burrito is amazing also. I used to eat here 3+ times a week and then moved away from the area. but if your heading through Lenoir this is worth the stop. Service is fast and you can be in and out quickly. read more

Just had dinner here after reading all the rave reviews. This is not a typical Mexican restaurant. Its Mexican/Salvadorian. Their name means The Yucca, so you will see it fried on the menu. I ordered the ACP and it was just fair. It consisted of thin cut chicken (cooked to much) cheese sauce and rice. That's it. No spices or even any onions. Husband ordered the Carnitas plate and it was pretty big. If you look at my picture I took when they brought it out it was huge chunks of what he said was "way to dried out", and no real seasoning. There is no salsa. More of what they call a sauce. The red bottle tastes like watered down ketchup. The yellow bottle delivered quite the punch with heat. I only gave this place 3 stars, because it had a 100.0 Sanitation Grade and the two ladies who dealt with us were very kind. We thought while visiting this area we would come back again for lunch because the prices were so good, but we will find a other spot tomorrow. read more

Awesome little place, although it wasn't that little, actually it was pretty big inside. We were on the way to visit family, and pulled up Yelp to find somewhere to stop to eat dinner. This place popped up having good reviews and was right on our way. When we pulled up, I was less than excited. Right off the interstate and wasn't the most glamorous, but we all know not to judge a book by its cover, or a restaurant by its outside... I'm glad that we decided to go ahead and eat there. The waitress was incredibly attentive and very nice. We ordered the steak special and two pupusas. These were a recommendation from another yelper and I'm glad we took their suggestion. They were amazing. Like pancakes with a filling. We got the cheese and pork ones and they were delicious. The Entree was also great as well. In addition to being quite tasty and very fast, it was inexpensive. Entrees are about $10 and each pupusa is $1.5! I wish this was not 300 miles away from home, or else I would definitely be back frequently. read more

DO NOT let this nondescript building fool you. We happened to be driving through Lenoir after moving our college student ‍ back to App State and this came up on our YELP radar. We would have never just stopped here to eat. After reading reviews, we rolled in. Holy Moly. I don't know a lot about Mexican Food and it's authenticity, I just know that I love it. Great food at amazing prices! Fed a family of 4 for $17!!!!!! - That on it's own earned this place a fifth star and it didn't hurt that the food was very authentic and excellent! I had never tasted a Pupusa before and they were fabulous! I got the cheese and loroco and my husband got the chorizo (which I actually liked the best). We also tried the fried pie, which was very hearty. My husband got a carnitas taco, which he loved and I tried the carne taco, which was a pretty standard street taco. The kids loved the cheese quesadilla (you can't beat a fresh hand-made tortilla!) I would definitely recommend checking this place out if you're into authentic flavors or if you just like to try something different and new. read more

I don't want to sound like the proverbial stick-in-the-mud, giving a 3-star revue, while everyone rants, raves, and drives here from Boone! But I'll certainly upgrade it once I've been back, and had a much better Carne Asada meal. $9-bucks ain't cheap for a 100% piece of lousy shoe leather... I've eaten there 4 times, and've been very pleased, except once. I really enjoyed the Carne Asada the first time I'd eaten it, but the next time I ordered it, it was beyond awful. Being optimistic, after the first bite and chewing on what was like a grisly piece of moistened shoe leather, I just figured it was part a bad cut and that it'd get better as I ate. Well, it didn't get better at all, and once I finished I had a plateful of remaining well-chewed gristle. You know the experience, when you chew some meat, and keep chewing just to get the flavor out of it, and spit out the remains... it was a huge disappointment, especially seeing it cost $9-bucks. I tried my best to explain how awful it was, only the return reply from the super-nice woman, who couldn't understand English or what "bad meat" meant, she smiled and said "thank you"! Again, I said "no -- meat was really bad!" -- again, she smiled a broad and genuine smile, and once again said "thank you!" Well, I knew I was getting nowhere, fast. I paid my bill, left, and had to eat something once I got home. The folks there are incredibly nice and kind -- but not knowing Spanish, I knew my "goose" was very well cooked. I just rolled with it... Yes, their papusas are great. So is their slaw, and their whole, deep fried tilapia is really great. But even though I'm on a tight budget and cannot afford to toss $9-bucks down the drain, I'll go back someday in the near future, and take my chances on the Carne Asada again -- they're too good of a place, great folks, and next time if I get a piece of inedible meat, I'll make sure I gripe, and insist on another meal before I get to the cash register. It's one of those "lost in translation" things -- while I also hate crabbing, and sending food back. The main reason I've steered clear of the place lately, isn't because of the food, it's because it's been hotter than hell this summer, and seeing they have really lousy AC, I just don't want to eat there while sweating my butt off while trying to enjoy a meal. I live about 2 miles from the joint, I'm glad they're near me, so I'll be going back fairly soon. So stay tuned -- I'm pretty sure I'll be updating this review, and giving them 5 stars like most folks have, once I know it won't be like an oven in there and they've found better beef to cook! :-) read more
