Nice atmosphere. Good, friendly service. Good tortilla chips. The salsa is fine, and has a faint amount of heat. We also requested the hotter salsa (free), which is a spicy tomatillo salsa; it was quite tasty. Nice menu selection. FYI, appetizers and smaller plate items are on a separate, smaller menu next to the salt and pepper shakers. The Enchiladas Suizas were good. A generous amount of (tasted like homemade) whole black beans, a big pile of lettuce and tomato, and a surprising large portion of fresh guacamole accompanied the enchiladas. Guacamole had good flavor. The enchiladas and black beans didn't have a lot of spices added - too bland. First time visit on a Friday night. The place was very crowded. Got the complimentary chips & salsa. My wife ordered a T-bone steak Mexicana and I got Pollo Milenesa. Both were very good. Went with friends. Service was good, however, they brought some of our food out with food for another table. The person bringing out the food gave my food to the other table. He tried to give me their food but I said that wasn't mine. He then went to the other table and took my dinner that he gave them and attempted to give me the food after the person had already put their fork in it. Once I heard about Hacienda Leon, there was little question on whether I would eat here. I saw the outside of the restaurant before it opened. I was really amazed at how great it looked. I heard the place was really packed when it first opened so I held off going. We went for lunch and there was little wait. The inside of the restaurant was just as nice as the outside. Our hostess took us to our seats. Soon the chips and salsa arrived. The salsa was good. I enjoyed the flavor. I ordered the choripollo. It is a good dish to judge the quality of the food since most Mexican restaurants serve it. I made it clear to the waitress that I wanted corn tortillas. I ended up with flour tortillas. I'm not sure if you noticed that places serve flour tortillas as a standard. I'm guessing most Americans enjoy flour tortillas. You have to request corn tortillas. I did not spot a server to ask so I ate them. Flour tortillas are not the worst thing in the world. My food was good though. The employees were friendly but my only complaint is our server was not attentive enough. Can I get a refill? I do not want to have to search my server out. I've had HL a few times before and it has been fine, but I won't be going there again. All in all, it was plain gross and quality has gone way down. We ordered curbside, got there 15 minutes later (way before they said our meal would be ready) and everything was cold. A few of the other issues: - There was a long, black hair in the pico and toppings of our burrito - The cheese on our enchiladas wasn't even melted. It was still in room temperature, individual shredded pieces (so, the enchiladas were never even warm enough to even melt the cheese to begin with) - The tortilla on the hard shell taco was soaked with moisture to the point of dissolving when I picked it up. - Everything was cold, despite ordering it less than 20 minutes before we picked it up I wish I had taken pictures, because it was all just so bad. read more

Had a great lunch on a Sunday around 11. A few of the tables were occupied, and it was not an issue for our party of 7 to be seated right away. The service was excellent as was the food. I'm never disappointed when I come here. I used to hate Mexican food no matter where I got it, but Hacienda knocks it out of the park. Their portion sizes are HUGE and the prices are actually fair (both a rarity in this town), and the atmosphere is fun and unique. Not to mention the sangarita here is divine---and the size of a fishbowl, so you might wanna share. It's in a new building that they built, so the interior is clean and open. We were also pleased that we could carry on a conversation without resorting to raising our voices. The absolute best Mexican I've ever had. My complaint about a lot of Mexican places is that the food is really wet, and if it's steak, it's cooked to hell. Not here. Perfect melt in your mouth steak, and burritos you don't need 500 napkins for. The service is very quick, even when busy, and you can tell they have homemade chips because they always come out hot, and mix well with their stellar salsa. Although if you are one of those people who think cilantro tastes like soap avoid it. I love it, but it's very heavy in the best possible way, but you weirdos may not like it. We gave this place a shot two times. Both times we were super disappointed. The first visit, we had slow service. We had to ask for things more than once. The food was good, presentation was thought out, but for Mexican food in Central, IL? Over priced. Our second visit was today. Our service was quicker and food came out quicker. I thought maybe it was slow service due to being so new. I ordered their chorizo quesadilla. Pretty simple dish, but good chorizo can be hard to find. Theirs? No bueno. Spices, heat and sodium were not balanced. Overly salty and the heat over powered the flavor of the chorizo. Very disappointing. The worst part of our visit today,however, was when our bill came. Our waitress misunderstood our order. Instead of bringing the scoop of cheese that typically tops a quesadilla, on the side; she brought and charged for an entirely new side of queso. When I questioned it, she argued. Explained the menu and when I said I now understood, but maybe next time, further clarification should by sought by the waitress or provided by the menu. Yes, it was $4. It wasnt about not paying for our food; but how I was argued with when trying to understand the charges. We will NOT be returning and we will NOT reccomend this restaurant to friends and restaurant. Just another Texmex restaurant that claims to be an authentic Mexican restaurant, I got transfered here to Illinois from Mexico city (work related) slightly over a year ago. I have to say that this is one of the least authentic "Mexican" restaurants that I have ever been to here in the USA. The paella (a Spanish dish) was probably the saddest I seen, it looked more like puke on a plate. Chips were alright, my wife's tacos were "meh," my friends shrimps were very chewy and rubbery. The waiter couldn't speak neither English or Spanish as he wasn't able to understand my questions or explain the parts that he understood. I asked in both English and Spanish. read more
