The food selection is great with many different Mexican dishes that you won't find in other restaurants in the area. We were a large group (14) and the serving staff and food preparation staff did an excellent job of coordinating everything. It made for an outstanding experience all round. Meh Been to other locations with a better experience. There was a mariachi band which was nice but kind of loud so it made it difficult to hear each other or our server. The booth was kind of tight for 4 adults. The food was very average which is disappointing when spending more than fast food money. Nothing was worth it. Will look elsewhere in the future. read more

We just moved to the area from Texas and decided to order our staple of steak chimichangas.The refried beans were really good and flavorful and the rice was nicely cooked. However, the chimi wasn't seasoned at all-not sure if this is how chimis are made in Alabama?The steak itself was tender but not really any flavor. The chips were a good thickness and the salsa had a bit of a bite to it. Ambiance was nice-lights at a good level, not too dark.Bright colors cute decor. Service was a bit spotty, they didn't ask us if we'd like any more chips or water with our margaritas and didn't check on us as much as I would think given they weren't very busy and it was early-ish still. All in all, we'd probably come back for another chance but try something else on the menu. read more

Let's be honest, its not 5 star dining. But a few important things: the staff is amazing. Something you dont see much these days. The food, while more expensive as everything these days, doesn't leave you wanting more. You leave satisfied. Unlike the obviously shrinking portions at most places, if your craving a plate like you remember from days past, this place doesn't disappoint. Nothing is like it used to be, but they do far better than most. It has a comfortable vibe, friendly staff, and your never rushed. Its well staffed, I've never waited long, and I always feel welcome there. Eating out isn't cheap, but here you at least leaving well satisfied. I ordered the San Miguel sampler tonight and left with enough for leftovers. Just remember one thing, rising prices aren't your servers fault. Tip them appropriately for your service. Parking is a little tight but very busy. Inside so so very cute a tad bit warm but very cute so far. The salsa was very good, my tacos were okay. Didn't really have much favor the rice was bland as well. My spouse enjoyed their meal said it was good. I taste the chicken out of theirs and it was very well cooked it just like a little seasoning. San Miguel is one of Mobile's more popular Mexican restaurants. After trying out a handful of other Mexican places here in Mobile, I can say that it is my favorite one out of all of them so far. We were seated quickly and brought our chips and salsa alongside the menu. One thing that San Miguel does differently is that they give you small separate, bowls that you can use for your salsa with a small pitcher of the salsa itself. This makes it easier to not make a mess as I usually do with scooping! The chips were also fresh, hot and delicious! My friend and I quickly went through a pile of chips before asking for another and almost finishing all of that as well. Keep in mind that we came in around 8:30 after watching a movie at the AMC nearby. Our waiter was awesome! He was enthusiastic, quick and attentive, but not overbearing at all! From the menu, I ordered the burrito loco with grilled steak. I thoroughly enjoyed the burrito but I will say there was a bit too much rice and beans and not enough steak for my liking. Even then, the burrito was moist and juicy with not hint of dryness or overcooked food at all! One thing I noticed was that the floor was wet and slippery. I don't know if this is a common occurrence or a result of wiping the floors, but I felt like I was at risk for slipping at any point in time. Years ago, this was the best Mexican restaurant in the area. Lately, the food quality and cleanliness has been going down, however. The seats at the tables are almost always dirty with crumbs and old food. Whenever I order to-go, the food is almost always cold. Tonight I order the grilled chicken nachos and some steak quesadillas. We had to warm them in the oven at home for a while before they got back warm. To make matter worse, I take a few bites of my nachos before I realize there wasn't any cheese on them. The whole point of nachos is cheese. Revised...ok I found out the reason people come here...besides you can get a huge table... the Corona-rita. It was the bomb. Makes up for the Tex mex. If only I could take my Corona-Rita and bring it over to Villa Del Rey for their authentic steak tacos. Meh. Just meh. They have large tables for groups which I think is the real reason we come here. The staff is exceptionally nice! And they seem to be very attentive but the food is just ok. And it's clean. The decor is pretty but, I haven't had anything that I crave or ever want to eat again. Went here before heading back home. It was your average mexican restaurant. The chips and salsa along with the guacamole were tasty, but the margaritas tasted like straight lime juice. A lot of sugar as well - I have definitely had better. I ordered two tacos with a side of rice and beans. Beware, the sides are huge! Definitely sizes worth sharing. My husband and I went there yesterday and for the first time. We finally found a Mexican restaurant that was relatively close to authentic Mexican food. The decor was very authentic, and although we were there during Tuesday lunch the atmosphere was still very inviting. I tried the five street tacos filled with lamb and onion and smothered in cilantro they were very delicious, my husband had a trio which included a taco and two chicken burritos and then a poblano pepper smothered with sauce and cheese. The server was very friendly and even though he spoke in broken English he was still very knowledgeable and very helpful and very accommodating. This place is quite out of the way for us, but I would definitely entertain going back again and recommend this to anybody that's either trying Mexican fare for the first time or looking for a new place to eat. This place is awesome! I ordered the ultra premium margarita. This is their top shelf margarita. It was delicious! I got the 26oz and I felt like my drink would never run out! It was awesome!!! Food was delicious like it always is! I highly recommend the tacos al pastor. There are so many reviews on here saying the food isn't authentic but what do you really expect when you order beef enchiladas or beef tacos??? Get something real like the molcajete or tacos al pastor or arrachera. Pick an item on the menu you can't pronounce and go for it. Food is amazing! Our server josh was awesome as well! I've been to San Miguel several times over the years but until recently it had been awhile. They changed the menu (downsized it significantly) which I was please with. It was well organized, clear, and the color scheme fit the over all vibe of the restaurant. Recently I've been here twice so I'll tell you about both: First time back was date night on a Friday or Saturday night. The wait wasn't very long which we appreciated. Our waitress was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. We were brought chips and salsa which were faithfully refilled and good. Chips seems fresh and the salsa was just the right amount of spicy. We ordered queso, it was good. Our entrées came out in good time, everything was hot and as it was supposed to be. I'm pretty sure we both cleaned our plates. Second time was dinner with my mom and stepdad, this time on a Thursday which was surprising busy. I'm guessing they have some kind of drink special going on that night. The wait for a table wasn't long. My step dad came and got a table before my mom and I got there. He ordered queso but by the time we got there it had cooled and become much thicker like soup than like liquid cheese. Our waitress got us a new one and was happy to do so. She was all friendly and attentive without being intrusive and we really appreciated her offer to get us new cheese dip. Everyone's orders came correctly, and hot. My niece and I alone with my two sisters decided to eat here one night to celebrate my nieces graduation. We really enjoyed ourselves so, we came an second time. The waiter whom "served" us the second time was completely rude. We talked to the manager and all he did was take up for her, making excuses. The waiter said "I was busy." Since she was so busy she decided to neglect our table. The manger told us "She is usually a good waiter, nothing but compliments." He was obviously assuming I was falsely accusing her. He spoke to us as if we just didn't matter. He just brushed our words off. He then took our check as if we were just going to run off with it. Things she did: 1. She gave us the wrong receipt. When we were trying to tell her about that she put up a finger signaling us to wait. She came back after serving two another table. She just laughed it off and didn't apologize. She switched it with another table. She apologized to them, then gave the correct receipts. 2. My niece had questions about the menu. First let me start off by saying the wait was entirely too long. Yes, we had a large party (15), but we told the hostesses several times that we were fine w being split up into smaller tables. They weren't having it. After 30 mins (the place wasn't even busy), we were finally seated. I've been here many times before, so not sure why I'm just now reviewing. The service was pretty fast. The food is average Tex-Mex. I had the shredded beef chimichanga with rice and beans. It was ok. Nothing to write home about. I ordered a Sangria margarita and was brought a regular Sangria. I didn't send it back bc it was good (ha) and at this point who cares?! We had been there entirely too long. If you are looking for authentic Mexican, this isn't your place. It's been since November 2017 since I've been here and today was lunch with friends. I ordered the Steak Fajita Taco salad with no shell and a Margarita. My friend's Margarita's were bland according to them so I ordered a Top Shelf one and it was OK. You could see the difference in the color of the drinks. Our server was sweet and attentive but the salad was bland. Really bland. The guacamole was really good tho. All in all, it was an OK lunch but it seems as tho my Margarita was somewhere between $12-14 and I think my salad should have been around $10-11 because my check was $28.80 before the tip. Pictured are my "beef tacos" (looks like canned dog food with some cheese on top of it) and some a la carte Chile con carne (spicy water that was served around room temperature with some beef chunks). I ordered a strawberry pina colada too, which would be my justification for one of the stars I gave this place. The other is for the efficiency - granted, there weren't many people there, but we were seated and got our food all very quickly! There was also some live entertainment which was a nice touch. Overall, I won't be back. If I'm ever craving some below-average Mexican food, Taco Bell is a lot cheaper. read more

San Miguel is my favorite place for shrimp fajitas. But this time I tried the San Miguel sampler which includes steak nachos, chicken flautas & chicken quesadillas. The plate was so huge that I couldn't eat it all and had to take the rest home. The veggies (peppers, cilantro & onions) were very fresh on the platter. I was very pleased but the service SUCKED! Our waitress forgot several items we requested and totally forgot to put in my friend's order. Then waitress stated that she forgot to put in her order because she was "too busy" taking car of another table. As if her order wasn't as important as the other table. I've written a review in the past....I've been a weekly regular here for over 8 years. The service, food quality and welcoming nature of the staff/servers is 2nd to none. I thoroughly enjoy coming here once per week......BUT, there is a major flaw with this location. The cellular service and guest WiFi is absolutely horrendous. It's not present. Coming to the restaurant or bar, having a drink and getting caught on emails, surfing social media, doing your Amazon or Christmas shopping, booking travel, ANYTHING ONLINE, is not possible!!!! I've discussed candidly with the staff over the last 1-2 years and they've ultimately directed me to this drastic measure. I never like writing an average review for a really good establishment, but this issue has been ignored for too long and my hopes are this review will spur some consideration for some cellular amplifiers/boosters, etc.....something to improve the experience for the restaurant's patrons AND provide cell/WiFi should an emergency situation occur. The liability with an issue like this can't be good. With that said, don't change a thing Hacienda San Miguel (Schillinger Road).....other than your aborhent cell service and guest WiFi. Very disappointed- going down hill My 2 sons and myself went for lunch, were told it was a 15-20 minute wait and took my phone number and gave me a pager. 1 hour and 10 minutes later when we inquired why it's taking so long we were informed they paged us over an hour ago and they crossed us off the list. They said our pager was broken. They never called my actual cell phone , stuck their head out the door ( which we were standing) and call our name or wondered we their pager was. Our cheese dip was cold and congealed, my son fajitas were completely cold and they told him they were out of horichatas when he ordered a second one yet we saw other tables being served them . Our waiter took so long in getting anything we asked for we were done with the food when he finally brought it. The restaurant was not busy for the poor service and cold food. We were never offered any compensation for our 70 minute wait that they messed up on and our entire lunch lasted over 3 hours. This used to be our favorite restaurant- we will be looking for a different Mexican restaurant to go to from now on. read more
