Let's be fair to Aztecas: I may not have been the ideal customer when I walked through the door. I was just getting over a stomach bug, which means my digestive system and I were still negotiating the terms of our relationship. So when I chose a Mexican restaurant for dinner, that may not have been my most strategically brilliant decision. That said, what I did have was quite good. Actually, better than I expected based on the restaurant's overall rating. Aztecas has a nice environment, the staff was friendly, and the food I tried was solid. I just wasn't exactly operating at 100 percent, so I'm willing to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt that I might have enjoyed the experience even more under better circumstances. You know it's a rough week when your stomach is the toughest restaurant critic at the table. Still, even with my questionable timing, Aztecas delivered a good meal in a pleasant setting with friendly service. Four stars. I think this place is better than its overall rating suggests, and I'd be willing to come back when my stomach and I are once again on speaking terms. read more

Went into Aztecs for dinner and our family spent well over $100. The waitress never brought out the queso. We paid her to the check not realizing it. Prior to leaving we realized we never got it. When we asked the waitress to kindly take it off our ticket she stated she had to ask her manager. After spending that amount of money and leaving a generous tip it was very insulting for the manager to say she had to view the video to seeing the waitress actually set the $5 queso on the table. I typically love this place when we are in town and the poblano soup is amazing. Unfortunately this time the poblano soup had almost a salty bad taste. I felt very sick afterwards. This place is pretty good Tex-Mex. The interior aligns with the Aztec name and very clean & colorful. The staff provided standard service, and the menu had the usual offerings for this type of restaurant. The food was very flavorful and well prepared. We tried 2 things on the menu that were popular: Quesabirria and the Victoria bowl. We enjoyed both without complaint. Will be back for sure! They did offer wings and a chicken sandwich for those not interested in the Tex-Mex items. Food used to be high quality when they first opened but since then it has gone down. My mother found a small roach in her salad bowl and all the waitress can say is oh I'm sorry and took it off the bill. TBH for this kind of experience I expected them to cover the entire bill but no, no one came out and apologized or cared. Manager asked for a picture and the waitress took a pic but that was all. We didn't hear anything or even see the manager at all. Another time we went I ordered tacos and my ground beef tasted like there was sand in it as if they scraped the bottom of a pan. Aztecas was amazing! The set up of the restaurant is so nice. I love that they have indoor and outdoor seating options available. The bar area was beautiful too. We were immediately seated (around 4:00 on a Saturday afternoon). The margaritas were decent size and price. The food was delicious. I ordered the birria tacos that were delicious. The Barria tacos were magnificent! I've seen these all over Tik Tok and finally found a lace that makes them. They were nice and hot when they got to the table. It comes with an incredible bean soup-frijoles charro- that is full of wonderfully flavor. The margaritas are on point as well. Just one gets the party started. I recommend the Tamarindo. The decor was full of color and tile-everywhere and the food was delicious- I have fond memories of eating at this location many years ago when it was Sabro. A great addition to the West Mobile area! My wife and I recently checked out Aztecas. We started off with chips, salsa, and an order of the large queso. The queso was delicious! Two people could get away with ordering the small. The Tropical Margarita did not disappoint us in look or taste. We had different opinions as far as entrees go: - The birria tacos- flavor was good, but not crispy enough. Our waiter ended up bringing me an extra with cheese, which had a better texture and flavor. - The enchilada supreme- My wife described them as "wimpy". It's four different kinds of enchiladas, but size and fullness were sacrificed for variety. However, the night was rounded out by an excellent "Apple Rustica"- a warm, apple pie-esque pastry topped with vanilla ice cream, a fried cinnamon sugar tortilla, and drizzled with caramel sauce. Our service was excellent- he gave us our time while also being attentive and making helpful recommendations. Best of all was the environment. When we first walked in, we agreed we felt like we were in Mexico in Walt Disney World's Epcot. They did not skimp on decor, and the vibe is unmatched in this area. A surprising twist was when the lights dimmed and music volume was turned up at 8pm, turning the restaurant into almost a party scene. Considering appetizers (4/5), drinks (5/5), entree (4/5), dessert (5/5), service (5/5), and environment (5/5)- we rated this an overall 4/5. The salsa was a bit too spicy for our enjoyment and the enchiladas were a disappointment, but that is not enough to deter us from returning to this West Mobile treasure. read more

After coming here once, I haven't been to another Mexican restaurant in mobile in the last year. Nothing compares. There's one 10 mins from my house that I ate at for YEARS almost weekly and this place makes it seem like trash. So worth the drive. The food never disappoints. Never. The service is always top notch. The atmosphere and everything in general is unbeatable. If the owner reads this.....Job well done! We've been waiting to try this place for the longest time. The parking lot seemed almost full, but the inside of the restaurant was so spacious. We were seated immediately on a busy Saturday evening, which is awesome. The server, Isaiah, was very friendly and helpful.
