I've been here once before and didn't think it was noteworthy, but I went yesterday and it blew me away. It was afternoon, so I opted to eat on the patio, which was beautiful and completely empty. Loved the atmosphere. I also tried something new to me -- the birria street tacos, which were AMAZING. Great experience that felt like a nice mid-week treat. I will definitely be back. This place was a dissapointment tonight. Our waitress Ruth, no english, TRANSLATION bad service and wrong drink order. Short version, Host was good, Waitress no english, no good, food was just ok, 50 bucks later, not worth the time today, dissapointed. We will look for another mexican restaurant or go back to the one on Schillinger. Longer version - see above and, we ordered a chardonnay, our waitress Ruth was clearly not understanding, so my wife said red wine, the bartender came over to confirm we ordered captain morgan and coke, not even close, I ordered water. We ordered cheese dip, it came and was thin like water and would not even stay in the chips that were mostly partial pieces of chips if there were 10 full size chips, I would be surprised. Next, she had the steak quesadilla entree, the steak was greasy and a few pieces had more grisstle than steak. I had the enchilada supreme, it was just ok. The whole meal Ruth maybe used 5 words of English. I get it, it is a mexican restaurant but, as I look around most people aka customers are english speaking. When we asked for the check, she had it, so I put my card in the folder, then she dissapeared for close to 10 minutes. We will likely try somewhere else as this place has become inconsistent. Well another less than exciting perfect dinner event. No real story here, just fresh and delicious Mexican style food at a reasonable price point. Server was bartender and she was perfect, wish I had her name. The balance of attention and invisibility was perfect. Always there when we needed her and not hovering when we didn't. There are other spots in town that can learn from this little gem. On top of it all off our go drinks were in plastic anniversary cups with nifty little lids. A cup we will actually reuse at our house so that's nice for cutting down on extra trash in the world. 5 stars doesn't do this evening justice. Would give more if available Update. This is by far the best American food I've had since leaving Texas in my teens. I've never been disappointed with the freshness, the spicing, the serving sizes or the service. We drive from near FL line to near Miss just for this restaurant. I also have to say I appreciate that their music and decor matches their ethnicity. Very pleasant! Service is outstanding. No complaints there. On a recent visit, I ordered the Esquites appetizer. Which should be toasted street corn with the yummy sauce. Theirs is a bed of non seasoned corn with an ear of corn with a pretty drizzle of sauce on the cob in the middle. Esquites is not corn on the cob. After I cut the corn off the cob with my butter knife, there was not nearly enough sauce for the amount of corn. Basically just a half a can of corn on a plate. It is a Mexican restaurant, so I thought they would know how to do this. Save your money. read more

Just walked in at 3:45 in the afternoon with a party of 15. They wouldn't seat us together inside but wanted to outside at 34 degrees wind chill. We declined and asked if they would seat us at 4 separate tables.. we don't have to be together and they said "no" They refused to seat us, even separately and we had to leave. This location is very busy. They always have a restaurant full of people, and I totally understand why. They have awesome happy hour specials from 2pm-6pm on the weekdays. The happy hour menu includes food like chicken or beef nachos and hot wings as well as adult beverages. They also have margarita specials on Thursday's too. The food is pretty much standard Tex-Mex food. I wouldn't consider everything on their menu as authentic Mexican food. Their drink menu is nice and the drinks are awesome. They have mojito margaritas, daiquiris, cocktails made with mezcla and some nice beers. Their bartender Jefrey is very friendly and good at making cocktails. I did get to try the Ultra Premium Margarita with added sangria flavor. One drink was all I needed. They play a lot of reggaeton in the restaurant. It's never too loud, and it sounds good in the background. read more

This place was ok, it seemed to be very busy when I walked in so I agreed to eat at the bar. I sat there at the bar, looking stupid and getting no service, for about 20 minutes, before I went back and asked the hostess for a table. I was seated immediately and had my order in within 5 minutes of sitting down. Had the carnitas which were ok but I did notice that the menu says you get corn tortillas, I got flour and I also noticed that the menu says you get beans and rice, I only go rice. I am 1/2 Mexican so I'm very opinionated. It ain't like my abuelas! It's definitely not authentic but some of the food is good. The service is great which is why I will go back but you have to know what to order if you are picky like me in this particular arena. I love the chimichanga, I'm not usually someone who eats a lot of fried food but this thing is good!! The oversized burrito is another good choice, but it's BIG! The tamales were horrible! We tried this twice. I always try to think that every chef can have a bad night so we tried it again and both times left disappointed. Service was great both times but food was flavorless. Best part of both meals was the chips and premium guacamole. Salsa was watery and the refried beans had no seasoning as well as the rice. Carnitas were dry and the Poblano and Chili Rellano both terrible. Peppers were tuff and undercooked and the batter was so eggy it wasn't edible. Really was hoping the second time would have been better. This is so close to home but so far from really good Mexican food. Not happy with my service at all . Asked for a corona-rita and they gave me one that was already melting because the beer was seeping down to the bottom . (The Manager brought it out so I know they they knew it wasn't made right) I asked if it was supposed to look like that and he said yes . I do not like Mexican, Spanish food. But this is the only place i will go and don't actually mind eating there. I mean i get the same thing everytime but that means that its good right? Chicken quesadillas with grilled chicken, in case you were curious, and do yourself the favor of getting grilled not canned chicken. Also the chips and salsa is sooo addictive, i am starting to believe that they put crack in the salsa. I can go there and not eat anything but the chips and salsa. Anyway, great place! I called ahead and placed the order and it was fresh and hot when I got there. The bartender that I got the food from was super friendly. She even gave me chips and dip before I left with the food. This Place use to Be One of My Favorites, but My most recent experience was TERRIBLE!!!!! Management is Horrible, to long of A Delay On Getting even A Drink Order taken! Ticket Times on Food have become to Long! My Son had Hair in His Food, and it completely Ruined His Appetite! Management refused to Discount The Meal because of Hair being in My Son's Food! The Restrooms have become Filthy and are lacking Proper Attention!! I've seen Cleaning supplies left on The Floor in The Ladies Room, within the reach of Children! If you check my list of reviews, you'll see that I wrote one for the other location in Mobile. It didn't get a glowing review. This one though, thankfully, is a serious improvement. The problem at the last one was the staff. They were glaringly neglectful. Not so here. The staff was right on top of things, friendly and very helpful. We've now eaten there twice and have been very happy with it both times. The food is just amazing! The combination meals, called Las Favoritas del Caporal (I'm no Spanish expert but it probably means something like Leading Favorites as the literal translation is "The Favorites of [the] Foreman") are loaded with food. My favorite combo is simply known as "B". The lunch menu (served from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM) prices range from $6.25 to as much as $12.95 with the average price being between $7.00-$8.00. The dinner menu prices range from $7.50 to $14.95 with the average price being between $8.00-$9.00. The architecture, like the other one, lends an authentic looking atmosphere so the ambiance is fun. The bathrooms are very clean and overall I really love this place. Hopefully it will stick around as this will be my favorite Mexican restaurant for now. read more

Used to be a good place to go to for lunch but recently Service has declined greatly. The last 2 times we went for lunch it took over an hour to get our food. And forgot going on Sunday. If you go on Sunday you will be there for 2 hours or so. Food is mediocre at best and service has been terrible as of late. We will not be returning for a while! read more

I would rate this place a 5 star, because the food amd service from our waitress was great! However, It was my husband's birthday and I specifically told another waitress on the way to the restroom to pass it along to our waitress that I wanted the birthday treat, which is the song, the sombero hat, and the Flan in the plate and the whip cream in the face! Not a thing happened! I know she understand it all, she even knew which waitress was ours. Either she forgot to tell her or our waitress may have forgotten. As far as Mexican fare goes, this isn't bad. Service is good, the place is clean. The food is the usual Tex-Mex fare.
