My husband called Ideal to see if someone could come out to take measurements and give us an estimate. The business owner came out the same day. He arrived earlier than he had promised, and emailed us a typed detailed estimate (itemized down to the number of posts, gate hinges, latches, labor, etc.). Even better, they accept credit cards and payment occurs after the entire job is complete. We had multiple quotes for the job, but decided on Ideal due to their professionalism, promptness, recommendations from friends, and pricing. The work they've done around town looks great, too! We decided on a 6' cedar privacy fence with treated posts. As for the install, Ideal set up all of the locate services for the utilities the day before they were going to arrive. They showed up early and set posts the first day. On Day 2, they finished setting the rest of the posts and started framing. Day 3 was more framing and pickets, and Day 4 was the rest of the pickets and gate construction, finishing work, and clean up. We had about 400 linear feet of fencing, so this was a large project. During the installation: the crew was incredibly detail-oriented, professional (wore company shirts), organized, and respectful. The area that they were working was always tidy and clean. I was happily surprised to see that the business owner was there every day! He made sure everything looked perfect. After the job was complete, the owner came back to walk through & make sure we were happy with the completed fence. We paid the exact amount that was estimated and the job was completed on schedule. Tyler Shively conducted the measurements and provided a copy of the material order from Cater Lumber. (see attached order). We wrote the check and paid for the materials. The weekend before Shively's was supposed to start the siding job, Tyler contacted us and informed that he could no longer do the job due to having lost all of his employees. He asked where we wanted the materials delivered since he would not be doing the job? The siding could not be returned due to the fact that it was special ordered. Fortunately, we eventually found another contractor to do the siding job and use the materials purchased. BUT, Shivley's had way over ordered the amount of siding. Tyler ordered 12 squares of siding for the lower part of the cottage. He ordered 5 boxes of the Shake style siding for the top portion. When the job was finished there were 4 + squares left over - 2 COMPLETELY UNOPENNED BOXES at $340 per box. That is a 33% over order! Additionally, we had 2 1/2 boxes of the decorative shake style siding left over at $225 per box. And that is a 50+% over order. I understand the need to order a bit more due to cuts, waste, etc. But that much overage? Due to Tyler's inability to measure or do math correctly, we paid $1330 for materials that we didn't need nor can we return. So, if you want a company to order far more materials than needed, and potentially quit on you right before the day to start, Shively's is your company.

We had a few hiccups getting the project started, but the entire time Austin kept in touch and was very good keeping me informed about what was going on.
