This is hands down my go-to fishing shop in Charleston. They always have solid bait and never skimp on quality or quantity, which is huge. I've had repairs done here and bought everything from gear and clothes to rods and reels--every experience has been great. Prices are okay--probably higher than what you could get online. What really sets them apart is how helpful the staff is. You can ask a question and actually get a real answer from someone who knows what they're talking about. Have been planning on going here for a while. Not only because it is fairly close to my office, but I have been meaning to get some oyster knives. Walk in the door and within seconds as I looked around, an employee was asking if he could help. They pointed me to the oyster knives on the counter (an extraordinarily fine set of oyster knives, but at above $20 each, it was above my wishes and thus the second place to which I was referred had them in four or five styles. i opted not for the inexpensive ($3.99) made in China, but the standard looking Carolina Oyster knife with the blue plastic handle for $7.99 each. Not only made in the USA but made in Greenville, SC. Great and friendly service, great selection and reasonable prices--Who could ask for more! read more

He asked a few questions and showed me several setups in differing price ranges so I had a number of good options. I love going into Haddrell's but it's so so dangerous for me. I always find something that I "need." Staff is incredibly friendly and you can tell they build a rapport with their regulars. These guys can tell everything: what kind of fish are running, where to go and what kind of bait you may need, whether you're stuck on land, fishing the flats or going offshore (you lucky devil). These guys know their stuff. There are other good local tackle shops in town that I fully support but Haddrell's has the friendliest and most helpful staff. Doesn't matter if you're down for vacation and it's your first time surf fishing or if you're targeting a new species and want to get more advice on what it's hitting, how to rig it and where reports are coming in from.
