First and foremost, the communication from Hagerty Insurance was abysmal. It felt like pulling teeth to get any response or update from them. I would reach out multiple times, leaving messages and emails, only to be met with silence for days or even weeks. It left me frustrated and anxious, wondering if anyone was actually working on my case. Furthermore, Hagerty Insurance seemed to have no regard for my concerns or the urgency of my situation. Whenever I managed to get a hold of someone, I was constantly told that my issue would be addressed promptly. However, days turned into weeks, and I found myself continually being pushed to the back burner. It was as if my claim was not a priority to them, despite the fact that I had paid for their services. The most distressing aspect of my experience was the overwhelming feeling of being neglected. I chose Hagerty Insurance with the expectation that they would provide the necessary support and assistance during a difficult time. However, instead of receiving the help I needed, I was met with indifference and a complete lack of empathy. It was disheartening to feel like just another customer to them, rather than a person in need of assistance. In conclusion, my experience with Hagerty Insurance was nothing short of a nightmare. I currently am not a Hagerty policy holder but was perusing sites for eventual purchase and wanted to see what others were saying about the organization. After reading some of these post it is apparent that many of the extremely negative offerings that most of these individuals have missed the point of vintage car ownership requirements. Most truly vintage care owners driver them on a limited basis and in some areas only in the better weather months. When I finish my restoration on a 40 year old vehicle I doubt if it will be driven over 1,000/ year if that much. It will never be driven in the rain or snow unless it is a sudden, unpredicted occurrence. I will be the only one driving as my wife cannot drive a manual transmission and I probably wouldn't let anyone else drive it without my being on board and they have insurance coverage themselves. I understand the companies position on certain prohibitions such as horsepower limits, primary backup vehicles,everyday driving use, work transportation, as well as congested urban areas with their higher accident incidents. I do not consider any vehicle less that 30 years old as 'classic' especially if it hasn't been restored. Hagerty is no different than any other auto insurer in that they have certain limitations on just what kind of coverage they will provide. In their case, generally, their policy holders will drive the insured vehicle less miles and more safely than the general motoring public. We have AAA membership and have had for decades so the breakdown towing they offer exceeds that of Hagerty and we would never use it if we did breakdown somewhere opting to call AAA. It would appear that all these one star complaints are being posted by individuals who are looking for a full coverage auto insurance at a low premium rate. They need to go with their current carrier most of whom will offer the same coverage regardless of old their vehicle may be. read more

I want to applaud Logan for helping make a (not insignificant) refund happen. The error occurred when I mistakenly selected the wrong insurance biller in my online banking payment system. Instead of paying HANOVER Insurance for our homeowners policy, I mistakenly selected HAGERTY Insurance, which was listed immediately above HANOVER insurance. (We have a policy with Hagerty for our 1967 Austin Healey.) I spotted the error the next morning but it was too late to cancel the payment. Adding to the fun: We were just beginning a 2.5-week road trip, with uneven access to the Internet. So it seemed a bit of a miracle when got a call from Logan asking why we felt we needed to send money when we didn't owe anything. (A reasonable question....) I quickly filled him in on my mistake. We were prepared to reach out to Hagerty when we got back home, but to have someone reach out BEFORE we did anything was a very pleasant surprise. And true to Logan's word re: issuing a prompt refund, a check for the full amount arrived Saturday and has already been deposited back to our bank account. In short: We were so impressed with the customer service and how easy the refund process was for us. So: THANK YOU (and apologies) to everyone who played a role in fixing our mistake. read more

Originally, my review was a one star and I had nothing good to say about Hagerty. I received a call back from Tom Hubbard, who reviewed my application and approved it. We did make some changes, but I was happy. If you get denied and have a legitimate gripe, contact the underwriters dept directly and maybe they can work out your policy where everyone is happy. My problem was the way the car looked (its under restoration) and the fact that my son had an at fault accident was their initial concern. I explained to Tom what my plans were for the car and that my son would not operate the vehicle plus an amicable lowering of the agreed value and I was on my way. I will say that this should have been done from the start but nevertheless I felt it was handled correctly by Hagerty and its staff. So I corrected my review to what I believe they now deserve, 5 stars!! I appreciate that they've worked with me and went the extra yard as far as making this a pleasant experience. If you have a problem, speak with underwriting direct and plead your case, you may come to an amicable agreement for coverage. I agreed to send them pics on the cars progression and along with that they will increase the value.. Thanks for making it right Hagerty!! read more

Hey everyone I wanted to write a review about my experience with Hagerty so far and my adjuster Eric Russell. My dream car - a 1970 Chevelle was stolen 5/1 and I filed a claim and followed the guidance of Hagerty and the police. Luckily the Cheville was recovered but it did have some issues from the theft. Fast forward to end of June and Hagerty has let me know they are issuing a check to begin the repair work. The process was just under 8 weeks to start the repairs which feels a little long but fair since they have to do their due diligence - but they were very communicative the whole time. There was a couple small miscommunication errors but my adjuster let me know it was an accident and not intentional. I don't understand how Hagerty has such bad rating/reviews. I know each case is specific, but they have been very helpful with me thus far! I think they are a great insurance company and highly recommend them to any classic car owners. Also install extra safety measures on your classic car as soon as you purchase yours and don't take security lightly when it comes to these classics! From reading the reviews posted here, most are from disgruntle folks turned down for insurance because of Hagerty policies of use, storage and horsepower. I read them with a grain of salt. My experience is that Most folks only post reviews for their bad experiences. I was please with their process so that's why I'm posting. I recently purchased "collector's" car insurance from Hagerty. I completed most of it online. I did have to return one phone call and sent one fax. I was pleased with the price and coverage. The only quam is that when I received my proof of insurance it showed the insurance company as "Essentia Insurance Company". I went online to see that they are an underwriter for Hagerty. I just think I should have been told this up front, but it would not have made a difference. person I spoke with was very friendly and answered my questions. 1959 Impala out of state purchase was damaged by Transport Co. during enclosed trailer transport. Transport Co. provided a cancelled (unknown at time of hiring) Insurance Summary Sheet (DVI). They said they would TCO it with cash, except of course they disagreed with Classic Car restoration/body shop Quote. They chose not to TCO repair cost. I was reluctant to contact my insurance to cover what should have been covered by Transport Company. But Hagerty from the get go put me at ease. All agents were very supportive, friendly, and the Claim was processed quickly. Thought my since forever bucket list 59 Impala purchase had turned into a nightmare right up until I contacted Hagerty. Hagerty turned it back into a dream purchase by allowing customer (me) to select restoration/repair shop I was comfortable with and as such so fitting for a high value classic car. I am a retired Independent Insurance Agent. 42 years in the business taught me what I should look for in service, both policy and claims. I have multiple cars covered on the same policy. I had a crack to show up in the windscreen of my XKE Jaguar roadster. I called Hagarty and the adjuster wanted to send me a check that day. I was certain that I didn't want the money until I had a firm estimate to replace the windscreen. I received the check, advised Hagarty and they stopped payment. I got a written estimate from their approved glass shop in my area and forwarded it to the claims dept. It was considerably higher than the original payment. I immediately received the check for the estimate that I submitted in full. This took less than a week. This is the type of service I always expected my agency to provide for my clients, I thank Hagarty for exceeding my expectations. read more

Hi Matt-I have had four collector cars for over 50 years..... you want me as a client. ...... TWO claims in that 50 years. I cherish my collector cars...... I dont take my eyes off them. My Saleen has been in my Cover-it garage for over 12 years. Four Tornados, 5 Hurricanes! 15 Blizzards of 4 feet of snow. We have a storm a month here. Thankfully no events. I have a well maintained Cover-it garage that is fastened 6 feet into the ground on each corner. There is a big difference between a cover-it garage installed WRONG and one that is installed and fastened correctly. I will not leave my Saleen one of only 14 made outside. I was told this the last 5 years. You do outside storage only..... that means under the elements. I will certainly try to call you back...... after all, four cars 50 years???? He spoke English !!!! And very well !!!! So many other company call centers are foreign background employees, or the call center is actually overseas, I totally hate that. I can't understand a thing they are trying to speak to me about. Also, I swear Hagerty has these phone reps in a building where they report to work.......keep it that way. These call takers that are working from home and answering this type of stuff....yes it can be done remotely with a computer and phone - but when these call takers have their baby crying in the background or their dog barking at the UPS or mailman - you know how frustrating that is for a customer, it super frustrating and just a huge turn off for me. Hagerty has the best, most complete coverage for classic cars, and their pricing is very reasonable, so much better than the big A company for my daily drivers. I appreciate that I can actually drive my classics without fear, instead of hiding them in the garage. I've had Hagerty for years now, and was just in a stressful situation after my dad passed away. Noah was very knowledgeable and able to quickly resolve my problem. After I freaked out, Noah was so calm, professional and friendly, and I'm so glad he was able to just sit and chat with me for a moment during a very stressful time. The most confusing item in my life every year is getting pip papers and proof of medical insurance to Haggerty and Progressive, I send Progressive three times each year, this year they charged me 60.00 extra first payment even though its their fault. Haggerty was my fault i sent the info and paid my bill and thought i was good, but come to find out the email was wrong due to spelling hagerty (haggerty) but Josh spent over 20 minutes with me and finally realized i spelled haggerty wrong, he took my info and got me email and said he will forward to the right dept. he was very polite, and understanding, I do not get that with progressive, which i believe i will change shortly. but Haggerty is always polite and reasonable read more

I've had other classic car insurance coverage over the years, but once I found Hagerty I knew I'd found the best. Knowledgeable, friendly and incredibly easy and convenient to work with, I recommend them to all my classic car friends. I even had the unfortunate opportunity to try out their claims department a few years back and once again, it was as painless a process as I could expect. I have insurance on a 41 year old classic car and received a call over a year ago telling me I should raise my insured value without even requesting it. Over a year later I invested a sizeable amount of money further restoring the car and thought I should let them know. They increased my value to match the about invested at a very minimum premium increase. The agent I dealt with did everything I asked and exceeded my expectations quickly and efficiently without being brusque. In these days of people having difficulty even getting insured and paying eye watering rates to do so, Hagerty is a shining example of what insurers should all strive to be. read more

Hagerty is great until you file a claim. Their "staff" is all temp worker/subcontractors across the USA. My vehicle got broken into and damaged - Hagerty paid $1300 on $3500 worth of fixing my vehicle. Then Hagerty began sending me emails and letters using vague terms like "tuning up" my policy. My lawyer says that in California, Insurance Companies cannot use vague language that could not be understood in court and doing that actually violates California Insurance Law. I asked Hagerty to define "tuning up my policy" and they never did. Bottom line is that Hagerty is no better nor different than any other Auto Insurance Company in the USA. read more
