Don't waste your time with these jerks. Their customer service is the worst. I've owned my car for 18 years, and almost all of that time with Hagerty, and never a claim. I had not been driving the car recently and let the insurance lapse, by a few months. I went to renew the policy and they said I would have to apply all over again. I figured that should be no problem since nothing had changed. Boy was I wrong. I submitted the new application and photo, along with payment . I was contacted a few days later by Jarrett from underwriting, and without going into all the details, he put up one roadblock after another, to deny coverage, and seemed to do so gleefully. What a way to treat a long term customer. I can't imagine how they would be with a claim. They must not need the business, and they are not competitive either. Hagerty's online quoting system is very time consuming and misleading. You can easily spend an hour uploading documents and photos and putting in your credit card info, only to find out you have to wait 2-3 days for someone at Hagerty to call you back and tell you they won't cover you for some cockamamie reason. There are yons of "fine print" reasons that they wont insure you that you only find out about after you are 2-3 days into the Hagerty process. In my case , they looked on Google earth and saw some vehicles parked in the lot outside my storage facility. They told me I needed to prove that my vehicle was not of the ones outside! American Classic got my collection insured for the same money in about an hour. I will never try to get insurance from Hagerty again. read more

I have several cars one of which is a classic car that stays in the garage. I decided I wanted to insure it with hagerty insurance and applied for insurance. I have two sons in the house that are under thirty. I was declined by hagerty on the bases that one of my sons did not have a personal car. I did explain I had not purchased him a car because he didn't want to drive. they told me I could reapply once I purchased him a car. well I went out and got him a car and reapplied buy now I have been turned down based on not having a car for everyone in the house. my husband and I work at home and share one car but hagerty didn't care. So because they were not completely honest, I have two cars that sit in my garage one not being driven much at all and the other probably wont be driven until my son leaves for college and takes it because of what they told me. Incompetent. They sent me through 3 days of collecting information, filling out forms and sending pictures. They kept "not receiving" all of the information. They knew I was trying to get my car insured for the weekend and finally called me late Friday afternoon to tell me they don't insure kit cars if they don't look like something else. What the hell? It took them 3 weeks to deny coverage on a car that was provided to them by make, model, and description. They took the application and the money - - and then stated it was waiting on underwriting - - underwriting did nothing until I followed up 2 weeks later asking for a status on the application - then they denied it. It's a 1996 Cadillac with Body by Superior. 34K original miles and considered a "collector car". For those with collector cars - it's not what the definition of what a classic or collector car is, but what Hagerty's definition is. I am forced to pay a base "daily driver" price- - and in fact Hagerty's underwriting policy is IDENTICAL to State Farm Insurance (they won't insure it if it's less than 25 years old - collectors car or not!). Very disappointed, slow response, and I had to drive the ship - - they were never proactive - only reactive to my Emails when asking status. Then I was referred to "Clint" who was supposed to be accommodating and he was just rude and stated that was their "underwriting policy" and tried to blame Texas Law - - even State Farm doesn't insure it as a commercial vehicle (it's not used for that - it's driven less than 500 m a year and only for shows and parades! - it always gets lots of attention at car shows!) It's listed on a collector car website as a collector car - but not good enough for Hagerty - their answer? "We'll insure it in a few years!". I have supported Hagerty's over the years with our clubs but not anymore. Horrible disappointment on what is supposed to be a premium insurance program. I want to start a collection of older vehicles and I have based my pickings on Hagerty's website of accepted makes and years. After having pre approved and even giving them my personal info and credit card, I purchased the dream vehicle just to find out the next day that it doesn't qualify for the program because reasons only they would know and not disclose to the public. The excuse was that errors are sometimes made and their website is not perfect!!!. Well, please make that disclosure on your home page that you are a bunch of morons computer illiterate and most of all don't lie. Shame! read more

Thanks Hagerty for bad experience, it ended up saving me a lot of money. Terrible experience. Stay away. I was looking to insure my 1954 Chevy truck. It started out ok, I got my online quote and filled out the online form answering all the questions to get my policy started. Everything seems ok. Then the very next day I get a call from Hagerty. The girl on the phone starts asking my all these questions about how I plan to use my truck. I already stated all this in the online form. I told her I planned to drive it to car shows, on Sundays to go get ice cream and once in a while I might drive it to work. She then asked my how many days a week I would drive it to work and how many days I would be driving the truck. I could tell by her questions I was being "baited" into saying something. Told her I might drive the truck 3 days a week on really nice summer days. After being interrogated for several minutes about how I was going to use the truck and how many days I would drive it, she finally tells me that Hagerty would not insure my truck due to inappropriate or excessive use. She said it sounds like your truck is going to be your primary vehicle. I don't see how driving it 3 days a week makes it my primary vehicle. It is just their way of "weeding" out the people and vehicle they don't want to insure. So save yourself some major frustration and DON'T waste your time with this joke of a company. Like I said it was a blessing in disguise anyway. I ended up finding Grundy insurance. They were $98 a year cheaper for the same coverage and was absolutely trouble free. read more

We have had this insurance company for 20 years, insuring a 1974 Dodge Challenger. Initially, the premiums were fair. Over the past 3 years, our rates have increased $300+. No claims filed. No accidents. Nothing has changed, except our need to find a new insurance company. After seeing all of these negative reviews, I feel this is a good decision. Customer service is a bad joke, and the company really does not care if you cancel. So much for customer satisfaction. A lot of time and energy went into getting them the ridiculous amount of information needed to get insurance for a 1973 bmw. Than after 2 weeks they let me know that its declined for very stupid reasons, one being that the cars worth is not enough. Not a trustworthy company. One day after writing my policy they called me back and told me they "reviewed my case" and concluded that they were not able to insure my vehicle for its value. Mind you that this is their business to insure classic cars at the current value and not the book value. To make matters worse, I had already cancelled my existing insurance after they told me I was insured with them. Not only did they refused to insure my vehicle they were unable (refused) to give me a valid reason why they were unable to insure my vehicle. I found this very discriminating. read more

Began insuring with Hagerty a few years back with older convertibles. Had 3 cars on the policy all in garages etc... I picked up a 4th collector an immediately went online at Hagerty to add it to the policy. Went thru the questions and clearly indicated that it would be kept outside. No issues, they approved it, accepted payment, and even renewed my policy with all 4 cars and 1 being outside!. Fast forward 7 mths later I picked up another collector and again went on line to add it and yes this would be outside and in garages as it gets restored. Since there were no issues having done this on their website before and the fact that they even renewed my policy with a car I clearly indicated would be kept outdoors, I figured there would be no issues. Up to that point Hagerty had been great and painless. Well this time they said they wont cover a car kept outside. ?? As a customer they had already done this and renewed the policy and I was 4 mths into the renewed policy. I called then to find out what the issue was and was told that they will not cover vehicles not in garages. I said clearly they did as #4 on the policy not only was approved and added but they also renewed the policy!!! They said they would not add it... so I said fine. Now they put in in review, asking for photos of ALL the cars, statements of who has access etc... so absolutely nothing had changed, so I took the exact same pics, gave them the exact same information and now they just sent a non renewal for ALL my cars :). Nothing has changed, I did not lie to them, fake out any photos.. 3 inside, 1 out as it has always been. Well now they are non-renewing my whole policy? I could understand if they said they could only cover the 3 that are garaged, but that sort of reasonable approach to customer service seems beyond them. Mistakes happen, and they honored the renewal thru term, but it would have been quite reasonable to tell me that the outdoor car could not be renewed instead of basically saying they are no longer interested in my as a customer. Their "About Us" pages states "Our passion drives us to keep improving our product and to give our clients the best service imaginable." The first hint of a company that is going to be difficult to deal with, is their website. Simple and easy to make a payment, but try to do anything else on it. I always had a gut feeling these guys were smucks, but the website experienced firmed it up. When I called to see if my policy covered towing, sadly enough it didn't. I figured as much. But they were willing to add it to my policy in case it happens again in the future. Sure. So I wanted to remove one car from my policy and I knew as soon as the guy asked me why, this was going to go down hill. He didn't exactly ask me why, but asked if I sold the car. So I told him that I did not sell the car, it was going in the shop for a while. Well then he offered me some kind of reduced rate while the car is in the garage. I told him that I wasn't interested. Now comes the kicker. He then tells me if I remove the car from my policy there would be no change in the cost, because I am getting their bargain multiple vehicle policy. What a crock. Torture. I have been dealing with a woman, name starts with D, and sounds like Cheyan, for months to get my car fixed. The shop that I took it to, originally sent in an estimate on REAR damage but included a FRONT part in the paper work, BUT the front part wasn't even in the total of the rear estimate, it was just there. Hagerty didn't catch the mistake and just stated that the front end on the car was paid for because there was a front bumper in the estimate...again, not totaled in on the dollare amount. so the ball just kept rolling down hill. I have met with 3 adjusters. I JUST WANT TO TAKE MY CAR IN TO GET IT FIXED AND HAVE THE SHOP DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY,,,,,,,,BUT NO......first shop, $3000, second shop $3000, so HAGERTY SENDS A REP TO SAY 'NOPE, WE WON'T PAY THAT. IN DEFENSE of Hagerty, I called another representative who said they will work with the shop, the independent rep that offered $1100 lower estimate, and get it worked out and fix the car. If they work it out, after 3 months, and get it done, I will re-evaluate the rating. read more

Pleasant staff hides ineptitude of management. I just got left high and dry with a car in transit being shipped across the pacific. I made very specific inquiries about my policy covering transit or if I had to use another firm to get Marine insurance until the car arrived, which they confirmed with management. I was continually told "No issues at all, the full coverage will cover the shipping and this time tomorrow you will have coverage, no need for marine coverage"... Didn't receive confirmation, so I wrote them, got a welcome to Hagerty auto response email, called this morning and was told that my application has been denied due to the fact that I need to provide a picture of the car in the garage in Hawaii... Me- "So you don't cover shipping?" Hagerty- "Yes for existing policies"... Me- "So how do I get an existing policy?" Hagerty- "We need a picture of the vehicle in the garage where it will be stored." WTH, so you don't cover the shipping! How do I provide that if its half the pacific away, and why was this not brought up at some point during my questions about this specifically, or why not some time between July, when I started this process and now (Oct 31st) even though I updated my coverage and went through the whole process with no issues until the day of shipping? Manager AJ's response, I don't know I can't speak for those that you spoke with, its human error... Way to manage AJ! As far as insurance companies I have worked with this one is the worst! Very dishonest organization. Every time I talked to someone on the phone, gave me a different reason for denying me insurance. I was totally up front with them. I drove around my daily driver for a year with a cracked windshield procrastinating and when my wife's daily driver got a crack, I decided to do them both same day due to our busy schedule. I had glass coverage. That's what you pay for. I also had a minor fender bender on company property again with my daily driver almost 2&1/2 years ago. A little over 3k payout. For these reasons, they would not cover my over $50k invested car. This car is garaged over 90% of the year, and I haven't raced it in 3 years. I maybe go to track once or twice a year if I have time to nostalgia events. Hagerty's excuse is they have tougher driving record rules when you race your car. I told them so what if I don't race my car?, Hagerty replied, well at this point we still can't give you insurance because the car still could be raced. So why even tell them you race it? So must we lie to get antique insurance? It's still not covered at the track regardless if you crash it racing. It's really sad that it took me 3 phone calls to get a full understanding why I was denied. I think it also depends who you get on the phone, but the way I was treated, I will never be a customer of theirs. I've been watching the reviews, and they seem to be going down hill anyway. I would have recommended Hagerty to anyone in the past. I had a scenerio where I was purchsing 2 addition collector cars on my policy. I had already had multiple cars on my policy. They requested where these two new cars were to be stored (standard practice) which is what you expect right. Well this is were things got wierd. By the way been with them over 11 years. They requested pictures of my other cars and the storage place which I had been insured for years with them. Even though they had this information already. Spoke to someone on the phone and discussed with them why are you questioning my other vehicles. Which the new vehicles are not being stored at the same location. They said to me that the senior underwriter say satelite image of which they thought was one of my cars sitting outside. I dropped them faster then you can say drop. No claims loyal customer, and apparently spying on us. The funny thing is it was a parts car. What would they do if I ever had a claim. You work for us, you pay for a service!!! They had sent a letter in between this time also stating if I did not send this information that they would drop coverage. Well before I recieved that I dropped them!!! So will all my friends and family. All you had to do was be up front about your concerns. Everyone please make sure you know about who is covering your car for you. These are are babies!!! read more

My sons and I have been insuring our classic cars with Hagerty for almost 20 years with no problem. I sold my one classic January last year and have been searching for a replacement ever since. I finally found what I wanted last week and attempted to insure it with Hagerty. A couple of days after getting a quote I was called informing me I was being denied. I had a minor at-fault fender bender while I was on vacation last year and I had two rock chip repairs in the last 3 years, both comprehensive claims. I have no moving violations. Based on that they were denying me coverage. After receiving follow-up paperwork, I also learned they looked at two other not-at-fault accidents. Fortunately I have USAA insurance and they referred me to their classic car subsidiary and I received a lower quote for essentially the same coverage. I even pointed out the problems Hagerty cited and now I have designated value coverage for my new classic ride. I will say they have a good web-site with the value estimator. Apparently if you have any claims whatsoever of any type steer clear of Hagerty. Either that or don't bother making claims when you have any type of accident or other misfortune. Wait! Was in an unavoidable accident with my austin healey 3000. Gentleman turned across my path , no turn signal and I could not stop. They payed promptly but then after paying they asked where I was going when the accident happened. Told them to the marina to check our boat. was informed that running an errand was not allowed. i asked if i wanted to take my wife for an ice cream cone was that allowable. They responded no it was not they classified it as an errand. I put about 300 miles a year on my car. They sent me a letter asking what percentage of miles are running errands. I told them I could not give them a definite answer but it would be minimal. They cancelled my insurance. My agent called them and raised cain with them and they reinstated my policy but doubled my premium. My advice to anyone using Hagerty is to cancel and find another carrier. They are fine till a claim is filed, then they find fault with the policy holder. read more

i was contacted by phone by a haggerty rep. who was questioning how my 1966 mustang was housed. i live in a san diego mobile home park. my mustang is in the carport nest to the mobile home. this rep. is telling me that this is unacceptable and i am going to have to make other storage arrangements. i asked him to tell me how many clients he has in california. i told him that probably one third of them live in mobile homes. mobile homes do not have garages. they have cart ports. i have been paying these guys for 12 years and now they are concerned about where i put my car. i told the guy i was not moving my car to storage and he could send me my money back. i am not impressed with haggerty. the rep. said he would have to discuss my problem with upper management. i told him to pass this phrase on to upper management. "the mistletoe is hanging on the back of my belt". that is what haggertty can do for me! read more

I have had my classic car insured by Hagerty for more than 10 years. For the first time, my car stopped running and left me stranded on a dark country road. I contacted my wife to advice her of my situation and asked her to contact Hagerty to send help as I have their roadside service. After waiting close to an hour she called me back on her cell and told me she had David on the line and he would not be able to send a Flatbed Truck because all wreckers in my area were reserved by the local Police departments. He may be able to get me taken care of the following morning. Basically dropping me in the Grease, so to speak. He did say he could call the Police to my location and maybe they could get me a tow. Imagine being on a dark deserted country road on a hot humid night with mosquitoes feeding on you and now knowing your insurance carrier is leaving you stranded! I will be making phone calls in the morning. Not a happy camper when a company collects your money for a decade while promising great service only to pull a stunt like this when you need them most. Had 1 car covered by Haggerty a few years back, until i had to make a claim, a branch fell out of a tree on my property .yes the car was outside and i wasnt able to get it inside before the wind kicked up some. filed a claim and was dropped, then i got a different car. now i received an e-mail that they wanted my business back,after getting some quotes , for refferance for car ins. filled out a new app. payed the payment, only to be called and told that i didn't have a garage big enough for two cars at my house ! (yes i Do) was told that the previous agent was told by me that i stored my cars outside (NO) i do take them to car shows, love to have them outside for everyone to enjoy. I drive them and i useally park in the shade at shows when every possible, But at night they go in the garage! come on Haggerty ! if you have to lock it in a vault you dont need ins. Oh ! that's right, you just want to collect the money ! you don't want to have to pay any claims !!!!! I will let anyone i meet know how i was treated by Haggerty !
