The catfish fillets were a nice size as well as the whole catfish. They tasted very good, hot, and fresh. I also tried the frog legs and they were cooked to perfection. The baked potato and slaw were ample and tasty accompaniments. The service was fast, and multiple hosts regularly checked-in with us to make sure we had everything we needed. I really like the riverfront ambiance. The river really gives you that down-home feeling. This is my favorite catfish place. I think it is the greatest of all catfish restaurants. As a special treat, my parents used to bring me here in the 70s and 80s. There is nothing like it. This location has aged very well and the food continues to be a special treat. If you can, try to go there on a weekday as weekends are very busy.

My family has been going Hagy's since 1971. Back in the day everything was magnificent. From the catfish to the hush puppies to the best coleslaw in the world, Hagy's was one of those places you could always depend on. today was the exception to that rule. The catfish was very greasy, and was actually scorched. The fries were good, and the hush puppies were acceptable. The coleslaw was as good as ever. I always get it with the honey French dressing and blue cheese. Overall, it was a very large disc disappointment, and I believe it will be a long time before I go back.

Sometimes simple done well trumps fancy mediocrity. This was a wonderful stop at a locally owned restaurant and did not disappoint. The catfish was cooked perfectly with a simple breading and the hush puppies were light and fluffy. The service was super friendly and even though we were from out of town, we were treated like regulars. The summer strawberry salad with homemade sesame dressing was immaculate and refreshing and the white chocolate banana cream pie was an excellent closer for a good meal.

The Catfish Hotel isn't just a restaurant. It's a destination, one that draws diners from hours and hours away. It's in the middle of nowhere far from any interstate, but that doesn't stop tourists and Tennesseans from making the long trek in search of the perfect fried catfish. If you do visit, the onion rings are probably the finest in the U.S., only rivaled on my road trips to all 50 states by Tumalo Feed Co. Steakhouse in Oregon. The baked potato and the fried shrimp hold their own. Unfortunately, the fries are pathetic and far from enjoyable, so skip them. But the main attraction, the fried catfish, is surprisingly underwhelming for a place with such a widespread reputation. While the batter is pretty spectacular, the meat isn't firm. It's not that it lacks tenderness. It's that the meat is just straight up soggy. I didn't think you could get fried fish to be that soggy, but it is! Just a few miles down the road, hole in the wall Pickwick Catfish Farm has the best catfish you'll ever eat. I suppose the people who eat at the Catfish Hotel don't know it exists. Middle Tennessee offers many alternatives, including the Nashville Hot Catfish at Big Shake's. Meanwhile, despite being such a fixture in local conversations, the Catfish Hotel is shockingly subpar.

When you're in the deep US south it makes sense stop to eat catfish at a spot that specializes in this offering. This hotel is, by reputation, such a place. We stopped in with friends to try out their fried catfish specialties. All were quite good. Stopping to give it a try if you happen to be in the area.

What a fun place. My waitress Amy was top notch and witty. She helped this yankee maneuver through southern cooking. The fish tacos were crispy, tasty and just enough to fill you up. I grabbed a piece of Joe's Caramel Pie for later. Go to Shiloh NPS and then head to Hagy's . At the Catfish Hotel the catfish check in but never leave.

Best fried catfish with all the amazing trimmings. We try to go there when we are in the area. Always friendly and great service.
