We were in town visiting family and ate here. The service was amazing and the sweet tea tasted like my dads did as a kid. We had a bloomin onion and fried green tomatoes for appetizers. I had the fried clams with the home made Cole slaw and a sweet potato. The Cole slaw is not like a traditional coleslaw. It comes with the dressing on the side for you to dress it as you wish. The baked potato and slaw were ample and tasty accompaniments. The service was fast, and multiple hosts regularly checked-in with us to make sure we had everything we needed. I really like the riverfront ambiance. The river really gives you that down-home feeling. This is my favorite catfish place. I think it is the greatest of all catfish restaurants. Although it was busy on a Sunday night, we were seated quickly. Sweet tea was spot on! The Cole slaw was different: finely shredded cabbage and carrots and a sweet-ish dressing on the side. From the catfish to the hush puppies to the best coleslaw in the world, Hagy's was one of those places you could always depend on. today was the exception to that rule. The Catfish Hotel isn't just a restaurant. It's a destination, one that draws diners from hours and hours away. It's in the middle of nowhere far from any interstate, but that doesn't stop tourists and Tennesseans from making the long trek in search of the perfect fried catfish. If you do visit, the onion rings are probably the finest in the U.S., only rivaled on my road trips to all 50 states by Tumalo Feed Co. Steakhouse in Oregon. The baked potato and the fried shrimp hold their own. Unfortunately, the fries are pathetic and far from enjoyable, so skip them. But the main attraction, the fried catfish, is surprisingly underwhelming for a place with such a widespread reputation. While the batter is pretty spectacular, the meat isn't firm. It's not that it lacks tenderness. It's that the meat is just straight up soggy. I didn't think you could get fried fish to be that soggy, but it is! Just a few miles down the road, hole in the wall Pickwick Catfish Farm has the best catfish you'll ever eat. I suppose the people who eat at the Catfish Hotel don't know it exists. Middle Tennessee offers many alternatives, including the Nashville Hot Catfish at Big Shake's. Meanwhile, despite being such a fixture in local conversations, the Catfish Hotel is shockingly subpar. read more

Some days you just want to get out of town and enjoy a nice long lunch. Hagy's never disappoints. The food is excellent and the servers are top notch. The restaurant is located adjacent to the Tennessee River and Shiloh battlefield, and there are all sorts of cool things to look at all over the property. Strawberry salad is so good and the catfish filets are perfectly seasoned and have no soapy aftertaste. One metric I use at a fish place is the quality of the hush puppies. Hagy's scores a 10/10. Fresh, perfectly crispy and not overmixed. Good stuff. I hear the desserts are awesome, but I've been too full to try them so far. Maybe one day. read more

While the menu has options of ribs, steak, chicken and other things - with a name like Catfish Hotel, you clearly have to get some catfish in your first visit. We both had catfish filets with baked potatoes and salads. Their house and strawberry salads are both great. The catfish filets are perfectly fried crispy, big and super flaky. Just delicious. After a moving Memorial program at the Shiloh Military Memorial Cemetery we found out way to Hagy's Catfish Hotel. It was nothing short of amazing. I enjoyed 4 small whole catfish with a salad and loaded baked potato. The waitress was very helpful and got our drinks right away and salads soon followed. My wife had a rack of baby back ribs that were good. Just not Texas good. Lol. Very cool setting and after our lunch we went out to the grass Alem and sat on a couple of large rocks and watched the boaters go by. The best catfish restaurant m hands down! They have great coleslaw, and they bring a bowl of French dressing so you can add as much or as little as you want. They also serve a strawberry salad that's delicious, too. We always get the catfish fillets, and they're huge! The hush puppies are great, and they offer onions and lemons for the fish, as well. The last time we ate there, the cost was around $48, which was reasonable for the amount of food that we got. I got French fries and Dad got a baked potato, and everything was exceptional, including the service. Dad gave the server an extra $10 tip because she made sure to keep everything ready for us to eat. She was always ready to refill our tea, and she brought us a to-go box when we needed it for our leftovers. Overall, this was an exceptional experience, and we will be going back soon. read more

We had dinner at Hagy's for my 65th birthday. This was not our first visit nor will it be our last. The food and atmosphere is absolutely delightful. I had the seafood combo platter with clam strips and fried frog legs with a blue cheese tossed salad. If you've never had frog legs you should try them. They're delicious and they taste kind of like chicken. The batter dipped onion rings and hush puppies were the best I've had. Special mention to the brewed sweet tea with free refills. Wife got fried catfish and steamed veggies with a side of their signature cole slaw. Their cole slaw is slightly sweet and very good and I'm not a big cole slaw fan as a rule. Son had a catfish sandwich with fries and my in-laws had catfish and a sweet potato. We had no room for desert and brought home leftovers to enjoy the next day. I don't think they allow you to leave hungry. This place is way out of the way nestled in the Shiloh battlefield down a long lonely access road next to the Tennessee river. It's living proof that, if you build it, they will come. Prices are reasonable too for a restaurant of this caliber. Service was also attentive, fast and friendly. Come give it a try when you're in south western Tennessee. They do get very busy sometimes so be prepared to wait. Suggestion: The clam strips were great but nothing beats hand shucked, whole belly fried clams. Maybe it's not a southern thing. I'm from Connecticut. Also, fried okra would make a nice addition.
