The prices vary depending on how they feel. They braid the front and back neatly and put large braids in the middle. Some braids were very frizzy. Some braids fell out in less than a week and I have shoulder length hair. The shop is dimly light, so it's hard to really see your hair until you get home.I am willing to pay for good work and cost is not an issue. To charge over $200 and the braids look less than average. I did call the owner, who offered to fix my hair. I went in to have it fixed and the stylist began speaking in her native language and rolling her eyes. Sorry, will never go back.

I had my hair done at this location a few times, it was a different stylist every time. It wasn't bad but there was nothing special about it. It was very basic. They nickel and dime you on every step of the process and it seems that they make up some of the prices as they go. The first time I went I brought my own hair net and they charged me $10 to put it on. I asked them to use braiding hair before they did the sewin and they charge $5 just to put it around the perimeter. A whole pack of braiding hair cost $2.99. The last straw was when I purchased hair from one of their vendors. I was going to buy the colored hair because it was cheaper and I wanted colored hair anyway. I was told that the colored hair was on back order and if I bought the natural colored hair they would dye it for free. I bought the hair and I dropped it off on a Saturday, I asked them to let me know if there would be any problems, I needed it back in a week. I figured a week would be plenty of time to dye the hair and I was assured it would be. I was also going to get my hair done there after they dyed it. I was going out of town the next day after they did my hair and didn't have time to waste. I contacted them on Monday just to make sure that everything was set for the hair to be dyed. I was told that I would be given a call by the owner just to follow up and say yes or no if everything was okay, I never received a call. It was a bunch of stuff happening between....bottomline I was told the owner would call me back but still no call. I tried very very hard to work with them on getting my hair dyed, I tried many ways to make it as easy as possible to have it go smoothly. I stressed to them that I did not want to wait until the last minute to find out they could not dyed hair. On Wednesday ( at this point I'm suppose to be getting my hair done by them on Friday) I still had not been called by the owner and the hair still had not been dyed yet. I talked to one of the hair stylist and she said that the owner would be calling me. I told her I didn't understand what was taking so long and why she just wouldn't take 10 minutes out of her day to call me back and let me know what was going on. She told me that the owner was very busy and had multiple businesses. I informed her that I was one of the clients for her businesses and I felt like I was unimportant even though I was about to spend hundreds of dollars to get my hair done. The stylist informed me that the owner was now going to charge me for the dye. I told her that I was told by the owner and herself the reason that I got the natural color hair was because the dye was free. She said that they weren't going to charge me to dye the hair but I had to pay for the dye. I told her it would have been nice to know this information up front. She doesn't know how much money I have to spend and it seems that they are making up prices as they go. She didn't know how much the price of the hair dye was going to cost and she wanted to wait for the owner to call me and let me know how much she was going to charge. I told her its two days before you are suppose to do my hair and you haven't dyed the yet. I wanted to see a test of the color on the hair before she did the whole thing. Now its Thursdays, the day before I'm suppose to get my hair done and still no call from the owner letting me know if they can color the hair a piano 4/27 and what the cost of the color is going to be. I called back at around 11am on Thursday to cancel everything. When I told the stylist I wanted to cancel the sound of her voice was as if she couldn't care less. All I got was a chipper, "okay"! About 10 minutes later someone from the Merrillville shop called twice but didn't leave a message. These people are unprofessional and I will never be back again. By the way, I was told the hair I bought was 100% Premium Virgin hair and cost a LOT of money.I was told it should take the color no problem. The hair did not take the color no problem...it turned red!

My only complaint is that the website and the door say that walk in's were welcomed but on a weekday afternoon there were only 2 nail techs and they both had clients. I waited about an hour and a half, which I had no problem with. A woman came after me and they suggested she come in tomorrow. It was 3 pm on a Wednesday but the door says they're open until 8 pm. I know now that an appointment is necessary. The walk in thing is what make the chop shops appealing especially for women like me with up and down schedules. The salon is clean, open and airy with a nice R&B playlist going in the background! You know how with some stylists when they blow dry and use a flat iron/curler to your hair you can feel the extreme heat on your scalp and ear? I didn't feel a thing the entire time. I was absolutely comfortable and didn't need to hold down or cover my ear like I'm used to doing. They'll be seeing me again! Very satisfied!

The next time I went, my stylist was a much larger gentleman (not sure of his name) who used ALOT of heat. That's fine if the hair strands are thick and can handle it, but one look at my hair and you can see that each strand is fine. Although he did use heat protectant, he passed once with Marcels, then again with flat irons, and then again to curl with the flat irons. My hair was basically flat to my head with curls at the bottom. Fluffing didn't help. Fast forward two weeks, a deep condition, hair mask, steam treatment, and wash... the heat damage is irreversible. I'm not mad at anyone. It was the risk I took. Bottom line: The service isn't personalized to your hair or even your hair type. Just whatever makes your hair look aesthetically appealing, regardless of the method or the damage it may cause.

Meaning, you're typically in and out in 2-2.5 hours (wash and style - eg pixie, overlay, etc). To say I'm a fan is an understatement. That would've been fine but I didn't get the right color that matched my hair so I ended up going with normal braids. I told Ola and the Braider who braided my hair I wanted mid back but it ended up being longer. These look thin, rushed, etc. when I asked Ola how much, she hesitated, then said "270" when I told her that's the price of her boho and asked why it was the same, she said "we do things differently." And "it's because they're long" but that's not my fault, I asked over the phone and in person for mid back. I'm also confused because these are probably the worst braids I've ever gotten, and the least amount, yet the most expensive ... and I'm from the city. Despite remaining polite, there was rude and passive aggressive communication I received the whole time. She eventually said "250" since she asked me to pick up gel for her and didn't pay me back for it yet. I still don't even think it's worth 200 at most. I am extremely disappointed. I could've braided my hair myself. Taking these down asap if I can salvage it myself. Never coming here again.
