I had an appointment for a infrared sauna and colon hydrotherapy. I went there and was told they were unable to do colon hydrotherapy because the sewer was backed up. No one even called me to let me know this. I dove all the way out there and not a phone call to reschedule or anything. On top of that the ladies were unprofessional because they were taking personal calls. One was talking to someone like she was talking to her best friend on the phone and the other lady who after telling me about the sewer issue got on her phone also with a personal call. At that point I was done I was going to reschedule but after that disappointing situation I'm not bothering with her services. Her products are good but the customer service is trash. They offered a discount when as I was leaving but I don't even want any type of service from them at this point. read more

By far this has been the best colon hydrotherapy I've ever gotten. India was such a sweetheart and explained everything to me in detail. She even checked on me while in the sauna and thank God she did because I needed more water lol. They provide you with flip flops, robe and a tote bag so you can easily move from room to room. Gonia did my colon hydrotherapy and I highly recommend her. She knows how to ease the tension that comes along with someone doing this procedure and will have you laughing the whole time. I must say she is the only one to insert the speculum with out me feeling uncomfortable and that's huge. They keep the lights dim, relaxing music and essential oils to create a calming atmosphere. The attention to details like the Alkaline water with Cayenne pepper, Cucumber infused water to flush all the toxics and hydrate or the Green Apples by the waiting area, the burning of Nag Champa... now I'm starting to sound like a spokesperson There are services that are hard and to find anywhere else like I said in the beginning, the ever so FABULOUS & MAGICAL Myopulse facial that Debbie gives me or if I really want to indulge I go for the Fountain of Youth facial which combines the Hydrafacial and Myopulse in one for an amazing Time Machine or try 'em separately, just Fabulous! This is a new location for Karyn's so everything looks really pristine. I came in with a voucher not knowing what to expect, and the experience exceeded my expectations. The deep cleansing facial with Carmen was a real treat! Skin felt moisturized and looked glowy despite extractions, and neck and hand massages were so relaxing. The pressure was just right, and I really felt that it improved circulation. Location is away from the busy areas so it was easy to find street parking on Ashland. I only wish that they had other promotional offers as the regular prices are on the high end. read more

First off, when I got to the spa, the receptionist who was clueless had me scheduled for the wrong day or could not find it. Took her about 20 minutes to figure it out. This was a bad sign from the start. Sitting in the lobby, I saw records for the Chiropractor while sitting on an over sized sofa that looked like it belonged in some cheap bachelor pad's studio. The "inner beauty" lobby is a mess of furniture that doesn't work for the shape of the room, is the wrong scale, and spa retail is boring & nonexistent. Makes a regular spa goer think they are not in for a treat because if they are not keeping up with ordering retail, what else are they not keeping up with: Sterilization? Cleaning? Janitorial services? Because not having your retail up to par screams disorganization or lack of management. Karyn is in desperate need of spending $ on a designer, and exceptional management in her spa. Organization and happy clients are not exactly plentiful from what I witnessed. While I liked the esthetician, she didn't know how to use the myopulse correctly and you also don't spark the direct frequency on someones's skin without gauze because you can easily give a client hyper pigmentation that never goes away. The room was cool but not clean enough compared to other spas I have frequented. I saw other clients coming in who had appointments after me who were angry because their appointment was also not correct and the receptionist didn't try to fix it & didn't seem to care much and they left angry. It seems that the space is a bunch of independent contractors doing what they want, when they want and no boss-that knows jack about running a professional day spa, and the staff isn't that up to date in their practice. I'd give 1 star but I liked my esthetician. Its not her fault her boss isn't sending her for training, isn't testing her staff herself or secret shopping to make sure she has the best experiences for her clients. read more

Karyn's is great for some things, but be careful what you believe. Eating raw is a philosophy that has not been supported by scientific evidence, and a lot of the practices of the wellness center portion of this place are sketchy and designed to get you to part with large amounts of cash. I will say that I went here for ear candling and will still recommend this treatment to anyone who has problems with ear wax and/or vertigo (it cured mine). However, when they tell you that they've got a machine that can cure cancer, that you should be eating whole spoonfuls of coconut oil every day, and that you need to buy their special water instead of using your Brita, that's when your B.S. meter should start kicking in. And don't do colonics. Just don't. As for the restaurant portion of the place, the food is very good, if overpriced. The salad bar has different stuff on it every day, and the flaxseed crackers and vegan ice cream are yummy. read more

I receive Karyn's emails and I noticed there were some spa specials this month. I decided to take advantage of the infrared sauna /massage combo for $75. It was money well spent! This is the first time that I have been to this location and I really like it. The reception area is very nice. I was greeted by Nancy. She is very helpful and delightful. She set me up in the infrared sauna room. The sauna in this room is a very comfortable size. I liked that the door to the sauna had a window the length of the door. I have been in a few infrared saunas over the years and they seemed more closed in and one kind of reminded me of an outhouse. This one was very pleasant. Plan to just relax in this one--it is too hot to use your phone and does not have lighting to read a book. There was another infrared sauna in a massage room and I understand that one has lighting, but it is a bit smaller. In my past experiences with infrared saunas, I don't remember feeling the need for a shower immediately afterward---nor did those places offer that option. Unfortunately, Karyn's doesn't offer that option either and I really wish they did! Their infrared sauna does a very good job. They had plenty of towels available and a nice terry robe but a shower would have been really nice, especially since my massage was scheduled after the sauna. The sauna was 30 minutes and the massage was deep tissue for 50 minutes. Ecaterina was my massage therapist. She is very nice but is very serious when it comes to working on knotted muscles! She did a really good job. I enjoyed my visit to Karyn's today and look forward to my next visit - - they have added reflexology and I'd like to give that a try. I just will be booking any infrared sauna sessions last and plan on going straight home :) read more

Love this place. When I come here, I feel like a kid at a candy store. If you're curious about coming to Karyn's, trust me she will not disappoint. Karyn makes these delicious Kale Chips, once you take a bite you are hooked. You also have to try out her delicious nut milk shakes and green meal shakes. All I can say YUM! Interested in learning more, you have to come down and take some of her classes. Whether its free or paid, they are all worth it. OBSESSED with Karyn's Spa! I just went there recently post-fire and it looks beautiful! I took Karyn's January detox class and she ended giving all of us a free oxygen hyperbaric chamber and infrared sauna session with 20% off any other service. They don't have the oxygen chamber in yet so I can do that next time when they get it. I did however try the infrared sauna and LOVED it! Went in for 35 minutes at 170 degrees and was dripping sweat within 3 minutes - get outta me toxins! Can't wait to go back for colonics, ear coning, oxygen chamber and many more treatments I'm sure! Super relaxing, calm, quiet, zenned out atmosphere and a super friendly and helpful staff as well! read more

This is my second review as I have tried more services.I love this place.The receptionist Gaby is amazing, funny and welcoming. I recommend Colonic's with Leyli, Jennifer or Christina as I have tried all three and they are equally amazing.They are very knowledgeable in their work and provide great advice as well leave you feeling detoxed and rejuvenated after each session. The waxing is comfortable and great with Debra. She is really detailed from the bikini area, to eye brows, under arms ect. She takes her time and is very knowledgeable as well with over 20 years experience in the field. Apart from being a sweetheart, she makes you feel comfortable in every situation. As for massages I lost my massage virginity to Tim. He was the the first time I had ever gotten a deep tissue massage and he was amazing. Really relaxed me while removing my tension and making it comfortable while he explained each step of the process from what muscular group was working ect. He also has 20 years plus experience and is funny, his personality really distracts you from the pressure points that are usually painful, with him I felt little to no pain but relieved after. I will definitely see him again. I also tried the infrared Sauna, it is gloomy and dark, and relaxing. You almost feel like you lose touch with the world and are just in this magical spa where you hear beautiful music, and are alone with your thoughts to detox and cleanse your mind. I would definitely recommend this to anyone. The shower is the best part, the shower head is full pressure rain like and leaves you refreshed after. Overall, I love the staff, the environment, and I love how clean and amazing I feel inside and out every time I leave this place. It is definitely a diamond in the ruff. Many know its a good place but not everyone knows how good. This place to me is somewhere I will continue to come for years to come since I started coming in 2012. Ten star recommend! I just went here for the first time and was a little afraid based on some of the reviews, but it was actually a totally fantastic experience. The space - including the lobby area - is totally serene and tasteful (maybe some of the other reviews are pre-fire?) and the receptionist (I think her name was Gabby) was completely delightful. She was delightful on the phone when I made my appointment too. It was completely relaxing the minute I stepped in, from the music, to the diffused oils, to the cucumber water. I got a wax and did the infrared sauna. I really liked my esthetician -- she did a great job and was nice to chat with. The sauna was amazing. Completely relaxing and they have you do a shot of cayenne water first to really get you sweating. I will definitely be back! Although I won't walk through the shop on the way out next time because I somehow ended up spending $6 on a huge soft serve and eating it in the car on the way home like a total pig. read more

I had a facial here using a groupon. I believe her name was Carmen but it was fantastic. I've had bad luck with spa services using groupon in the past (with it feeling rushed or like they're skimping) but this facial was great. She was very thorough with my congested skin & the entire thing was really relaxing. The one thing that I loved is that often during facials the esthetician usually leaves the room for like 10 minutes while the mask sits but she didn't. While my mask was soaking in, she gave me a relaxing little head massage while the smell of lavender woofed around. I plan to definitely go back & highly recommend. They also have their own parking lot too which helps a lot! read more

I was really looking forward to trying this place as I've recently begun to make the transition to veganism...but I was BEYOND put off by the fact that I walked in and at least 4 employees looked at me and said nothing. I was not welcomed, asked if I needed help...nothing. Just got a few stares and that was it. Alright, I have to preface this by saying, I did not actually eat the food here, because I was too busy being outraged. I'm a vegan, and interested in raw foodism, and we were going to check out the gourmet restaurant one night, when bad reviews made us change our mind. So this weekend, when we walked by this little cafe, we thought we'd grab some lunch. But when i saw the selection and exorbitant prices, I turned down Karyn's again. "Raw" seems to me just another word for greedy. I don't know where they get off charging that much: a mediocre looking salad - which by its very nature is raw - for $14 - and I had all of the ingredients for this very salad at home...you can make a salad like this every day for a week with produce from your local farmer's market at that price. And a tiny "slice" of "pizza" that looked more like a mushy apple pie for $12.99. Now I don't want to sound like a cheapskate, but I know how much organic, local food costs and this place is a rip-off. It's almost laughable that they charge more for keeping it uncooked. Wow, what a culinary challenge! The women behind the counter were very unfriendly and unhelpful and the ambience of the place was so unwelcoming--counter to everything I would consider veg-friendly. Where's the vegan compassion? This place seemed gimmicky, like they're just trying to cash in on a fad, and it's motivated by profit, not health or concern. Disappointed! The class was a medium used to aggressively "push" Karyn's merchandise. Unbelievably, she canceled the last class (due to bad weather?)...right at the end of the fasting period when we needed the most guidance. The Detox class was mainly an infomercial for her overpriced products and services. I had an issue with her canceling the graduation due to the cold weather. Waited three days for my response. When she answered my call, she was condescending and rude. I had to settle for something less than what was promise....a session with her assistant. Wanda was great. But, was not pleased with the way matters were handled. I did lose weight and learned some new things, but it was overpriced. Nuts Nuts and more nuts. If you want to eat really expensive raw food mostly made of nuts, then this is the place for you. I've done the raw detox and I've eaten here. I believe you can take something from everything and the same goes for Karyn's. Her philosophy is very raw- vegan-militant. A bit of what she says is completely ridiculous and without basis in science, but I felt pretty good when I ate mostly veggies and her green shake for about a week. Then, I was starving for protein. You can eat only so many nuts and no matter how many vegans protest and proclaim the percentage of protein in a lettuce leaf, for any active human being it isn't enough. As far as other things go, the Hemp Scream is really good, but at $20 a pint it just isn't worth it. Oh, and the customer service is utterly non-existent. read more

I have been visiting Karyn's for years. I have done the detox, colonics, bought the food etc. I like the concept of Karyn's but the execution is poor. First off, it is very expensive. A 7 dollar smoothie? Secondly, the staff is very unfriendly and the receptionist acts like she is the CEO of a Fortune 100 company. I bought a groupon for a foundation of youth facial and due to a busy travel schedule, I called to schedule an appointment with only 2 weeks left before it expired. The receptionist let me know there were no appointments available and when I asked if they would honor the groupon for one more additional week (many establishments due this to maintain good customer service) she said no and I should have planned better to get the facial within the allowed time. There was no empathy or remorse, she was plain rude. She lost a customer in me. read more

I've done the detox/cleanse several times. The first time I had such a great response. I could actually feel it. (And I'm one of those people who don't respond to herbs at all.) By this time, I can purchase the products I need to do the cleanse at home, without taking the class. There is quite a connection between what is going on in the colon and allergy types of symptoms. The cleanse does more than cleanse the colon. It really does a job on your cells, from head to toe. You can tell how well the raw lifestyle works for Karyn just by looking at her. She doesn't look close to her age. She has the energy of someone much younger. I read through some of the other posts here. I have to agree about the staff. While Bernadine has always been helpful, several Inner Beauty and cafe staff can be strange re their lack of customer service. That said, oddly, Karyn has not been nice to me on occasion and has even said strange things to me that were mean. Perhaps that mood from her extends to some of the employees? It's important to never forget who your customers are -- and to treat customers as customers. read more

I have had nothing but good experiences here. I totally agree with Kim W. - the colon hydrotherapists are super friendly and professional. I like Patty and Kara the best, but haven't had all of them. I think the prices (for the Inner Beauty section) are on par with other places that offer the same thing. And who has an oxygen bath or infrared sauna AND parking?? I mean seriously, you're paying for what you get. I did the Karyn's detox program and yes it's pricey and takes a lot of commitment, but I've looked for other similar detox programs and they were all way more expensive, so not sure if that's just how it goes. In response to someone that mentioned this is all based on pseudo-science and that no one should get colonics - that is some serious misinformation. For instance, a family member of mine has been battling cancer and only got worse with conventional treatment - they are now at an alternative medicine clinic where raw food, juicing and colonics are major parts of their treatment (and these are MDs too). They are seeing other patients curing their cancers one by one with these methods and going home. It really works!! So don't bash it until you have done your research. I'm truly grateful we have an option like Karyn's in Chicago and just wish more places like it would pop up. Hopefully that would help with the pricing too ;) read more
