I assumed that any hair stylist would be able to do this so I just booked with the first available person. When I got there, the woman who was available half-heartedly tried to put up my hair with no prep and like 5 bobby pins. Then, she asked to use my my hair scrunchie! I told her that she had done was not what I wanted. She said that she couldn't do it, then asked another stylist if she would do it. I was really nervous at that point because I had about two hours until my event. I waited about 40 mins, but it was worth it! Lalani have me a beautiful updo that lasted all evening. Yesterday, Thursday May 14, 2026, I had an 8:00 AM appointment to have my hair trimmed. I was there at 7:45. She finally unlocked the door at 8:05. Five minutes late probably not such a big deal in most cases, but I had been early so that I wouldn't be late when I entered the store. I smelled smoke on her so I knew she had gone to have a cigarette and that's why she was late opening. She asked me what I wanted done. I told her a trim only after the complementary shampoo and conditioner. I had to show her using my hair that I only wanted a quarter of an inch taken off. She did comply and it only took five minutes to trim my hair when it was time to pay, she charged me $40 $40 for five minutes to trim my hair you may say well she did shampoo and condition. This is true, but that's complementary. I am not a happy Customer. read more

Let me start off by saying this is the worst experience I have ever gotten from a hair salon. Not only did my artist not know how to do highlights she didn't even know what I meant by toner or platinum. At one point she put red dye in my hair and then tried to wipe it with a rag. My hair looks so awful and it has dots of red in it. Also I noticed everyone leaving the shop had water dripping down their back (including me) from being in the bowl and not wrapping peoples neck properly. Very unprofessional, I wish I would have said something at the end of my appointment but I am not confrontational at all but this looks so terrible, not worth $150 at all. read more

I have been getting my hair cut by Taj for nearly 10 years now whenever I'm in the area. I moved somewhat far away so, on occasion, I will use other stylists, but most of the time, I make the trip to see her every few months. I tend to get my hair cut in long layers and have thick Asian hair. Every few months I either keep it long or want to go short. I haven't tried other stylists there so that is why I'm only giving 4 stars. However, I'm happy with the cuts I get from Taj. It's reasonably priced. She's sweet and caring. While waiting for my hair cut, I usually see a lot of men come in and leave with great hair cuts, so I can safely assume most experienced stylists there do a good job with men's hair cuts. Tips: I come prepared with a photo of the type of hair cut I would like and usually tell her to trim the hair a couple inches less than what I'd normally say. This is because the hair appears longer when the hair is wet. They can always trim more but can't add back length. I've learned this from my experience with every stylist I've ever seen anywhere. I usually get tons of compliments on my hair, and people are surprised that I get it cut at the Hair Cuttery. I usually style my hair myself, but the hair cut is the foundation. Cheap and cheerful. Nice quality cut. No frills. Shampoo. Condition. Cut. I walked in without an appointment at lunchtime and they took care of me within minutes. The staff was very nice. I asked for a "lob" (long bob) with a little bit of layering around the face. Lori was my hairdresser. I showed her a picture from Pinterest and she nailed it! The barber messed up my hair. The shape up was poor. She just rushed through the cut and did a poor job.

My first experience at this salon was pretty positive, but when I arrived for my second appointment the stylist that I had booked was just starting to wash the hair of another person. No one acknowledged my presence until I spoke up. I arrived a few minutes before my appointment was scheduled and with the stylist just starting another person, I assumed she just thought I would wait -- probably 30-45 minutes. She didn't even acknowledge me by speaking to me. It wasn't until I asked about the appointment and she just kind of shrugged. This was absolutely NOT acceptable. I had to pick up a child after my scheduled appoint -- giving myself 30-45 minutes for the appointment -- so I couldn't wait. Why even make appointments if they are not going to be keep them. Leliana, a old black lady with yellow braids at the moment gave me the worst haircut experience of my life. i say experience because not only was it the worst most rushed haircut ever in a salon with 0 customers at 8am RIGHT WHEN THEY OPEN. she was rude the whole time i tried to give any direction for the haircut I WAS PAYING FOR. I made an appointment here that was canceled since my stylist had an emergency. I rescheduled for the following day where I was paired with a person who in my opinion was a terrible hair stylist. I had the worst haircut of my life here. She only cut half my hair so I need to go to another to salon to find it. She cut my bangs so short that they can't be fixed. When she was washing my hair she accidentally got water all down my back and sweater because she didn't use a towel as a buffer. She also accidentally cut me and left me bleeding around my eyebrow. I realized I just needed to get out of there to see the damage done and assess whether I needed to go somewhere else. I cried because everyone is booked up and there is no way for me to fix this. I paid $60 for such a terrible haircut and I need to now go pay $100 to fix it because it was bad. Unless you know a specific stylist here that is good do not go. I need to add that I'm also getting married this summer and when I mentioned this to my stylist she said "I hope it works out for you", which is such a crazy thing to say to someone. Let me start off by making myself SO clear. Shane is the bomb dot com. I walked in with a slight idea of what I wanted- a trim with some layers and curtain bangs. Shane made me feel really comfortable in expressing myself and she also gave me some great recommendations along the way. In terms of how my haircut came out, it was an absolute slay. Shay delivered exactly what I needed and went above and beyond in delivering in all areas from friendly customer service, professionalism, expert advice on ways to properly care for my hair, etc. I did not have super high expectations being that i've had sub par experiences at some hair salons in general with stylists ignoring my wishes, rushing, putting in half effort. However this experience completely blew my expectations out of the water and I cannot express with sufficient words how in love i am with my cut. I can't stop catching my reflection in the mirror and pretending im a 90s super model and im living for that. If you want your hair to smell burnt and the stylist to use dirty flat irons, come to this location. Stylist was named LaLani. She is the main reason HAIR CUTTERY ALEXANDRIA IS A HELL SPOT. She is a slickster stylus and a bully. Bad mouths the company and her coworkers. I signed up for one type of service and she charged me for another without my consent. Style lasted 3 days max. Would not honor my discount or the veteran's discount. Store manager - Karen- is clueless and worthless. Very obvious she is covering for her friend LaLani. I am waiting on my refund. Amending my review because the manager, Karen, went above and beyond to fix my daughter's hair at no charge, and had already spoken with Lalani about the situation when I called to speak to her. She took action to remedy the situation, and my daughter's hair is now much closer to what she wanted (she also had to recut it because it wasn't "symmetrical"). Turns out the $16 up charge was for a long hair blow-out, which Lalani didn't even do, so even more deceptive on her part than we originally thought. 5 stars for Karen, so 3 after averaging it with our atrocious first experience. read more

I went to the hair cuttery once and my haircut and color was okay - nothing great - I decided to go back and DONT EVER BOTHER. Not only did the hairstylist ruin my color, but she cut it in all different directions. My 9 year old grandchild could have done a better job. So, not only did it cost me $109.00, I went back to a regular salon (which cost me $120) and all the stylists there could not believe that this person knows how to cut hair. Leilani is the rudest hairstylist that I have ever had at this location. She has the strangest way of cutting straight hair with my head tilted over one shoulder. Several times she talked down at me to be still. I thought she was going to yank my head. Then she spent 5 minutes ONLY on the cut which was MEDIOCRE at best. Bangs too short, little face framing, and uneven trim on back. I had to fix it when I got home. She didnt even check her work but sent me out the door with "you are done", I seriously wonder if she knows how to cut hair. This woman didn't give a rats ass for me the paying customer. I have been going there for a few years now. Sabi is my go to stylist out there. She is great, takes her time, does GREAT job, and listens to what you want. She is the one I prefer. Sabi is the reason why i keep coming back.. I highly recommend Sabi if you can pick a stylist. Prices are average. They are pretty busy and all are very polite. read more
