I'm writing this to share my experience as a Muslim woman who wears a hijab, after dealing with what I believe to be clear religious discrimination at Hair Cuttery in Glen Ellyn. I first called the salon and asked for a private space or partitioned area so I could get my highlights done in privacy, as is required by my faith. I was told there was a back room available and that it could be used. I agreed to come back later and make an appointment. When I called back to book the appointment, a different staff member told me they couldn't accommodate me because the room was "too small" for a 2-3 hour session. I thought maybe this was just a misunderstanding or someone not informed, so I called again. This time, another employee told me YES, I could use the room and scheduled me for a 9:15am appointment. When I arrived for my appointment, the stylist came out and immediately asked if I was the woman she had spoken to before about not being able to use the back room. I confirmed I was, and explained that I'd spoken with others who had said it was fine. She then told me she was the manager and refused to do my highlights, repeating the claim that the room was too small -- even though I said I didn't mind the space. Two different employees told me it was possible. One even confirmed it after I mentioned the room size issue. So why is the manager overriding that and refusing to provide the service -- unless it's because I'm a hijabi Muslim woman? To make things worse, I noticed something that looked like a partition in the back, which raises even more questions about why this basic accommodation couldn't be made. This experience felt discriminatory and exclusionary, and the manager's later voicemail apology only repeated the same excuses -- which do nothing to justify what happened. If a paying customer is requesting a modest space and is fine with the conditions, there is no legitimate reason to refuse, unless it comes down to bias. I'm speaking out so others know what happened. This is not just bad customer service -- it's discrimination. I hope Hair Cuttery takes this seriously and re-evaluates how they treat Muslim customers and anyone with religious or modesty needs. Update! She came texting me more lies. I love my lady ingrid she does me amazing. I love when she cuts my hair but she was booked so I went with someone else. this lady was kind but she cut off maybe 5 inches more than I asked her too. my hair was almost down to my waist and it is now above my chest. I asked for four inches off and left with 8 gone. it is ridiculous how a hair stylist can cut off that much hair without noticing. Scheduled an appointment tonight for this location since my regular location was totally booked and I desperately needed a haircut. I booked the appointment for 7:30 and got there at 7:39 (due to my sick baby taking a long time to fall asleep) and they immediately said there was no way they could take me. I told them all I needed was a wash and trim and it's never taken more than 15 min at the other location. My haircut is very simple and I have very thin hair. There were two stylists there and no customers. One could've cut my hair and the other could've closed down. Instead, they again refused to see me and said they both had long days and wanted to leave early. I think it says a lot about this location that they had SO many available appointments. The stylists don't seem to be very motivated individuals, so I would avoid this location if you can. Horrible experience and won't be returning. read more

Worst customer experience I ever had in any salon. Signed up for a $45 haircut and they are trying to say that is $67 because my 14-year-old daughter has long hair. I never gave approval for that and I placed the order not my 14 year-old daughter. The managers was extremely rude and she threaten to call the police if I don't pay the $67 and not the $45 and she did that in front of my 14-year-old daughter making her cry and ruining her hair cutting Experience over the misunderstandings that the bill would be $45 not $67 for a 14-year-old girl to have her haircut. My appointment was a half an hour past my scheduled time. Therefore, my appointment was rushed because apparently the salon was about to close. I did not get the cut I wanted and my hair has not looked right since I got it cut there and I will not return here. I guess in hindsight the last time this happened to me at another salon I walked out when I was 15 minutes past my appointment time but I desperately needed a cut and I guess I learned my lesson. I have to say real quick, reading the one star reviews that knock this place down, should be removed. One of them was from a long ago visit and wasn't relative to any recent current staff or visit. Just complaining to complain? From a bad memory or it took extra time? That's not fair. If I could award 6 stars, I would. It wasn't fast because it wasn't rushed. Newer? Ok. I was younger once and a less experienced technician, but I was still very good at what I did. I was good because I cared about what I was doing, and thats the feeling I got from this salon and the young women running the show. Especially from Alaa, my stylist. Two big cheesy thumbs up... and here's my review. First time in this place as I lost the young woman who's done my high/low lights the last several years. I've never paid attention to what she did, I just knew I liked it. And I actually got compliments. I then tried Mario Tricosi of course, and it took three women and a consultant to cut, color, and blow dry my hair in a way that short of being a stylist, you had no hope of ever re-creating. I just did not like the end result at all, and it was stupid expensive. You're obviously paying for the 'honor' of over-paying and saying you went to MT. It was just dumb. So, I found this place. It was bright, clean, and the ladies were welcoming and friendly, even to an older, yappy guy like myself. It just has an overall good vibe walking in. Best part of my visit was an awesome young lady named Alaa. I hope she's around for a long time because she nailed it. I love my hair. Love it. She did a high/low light and it's blended everything perfectly with just the perfect amount of "noticeable". I look so much better than when I walked in, I just feel good. It reminded me of my old stylist but a bit better, dare i say. And my wife, who takes pride in her hair and whom i sort of try and copy when it comes to high/low lights and texture, thought it looked great, too. My mom and I got a haircut here and it was the absolute worst. Our hairstylists was Dessislava and I wish we never booked with her. When I walked in I noticed her giving my mom and I looks but we both ignored it. I came in with long hair reaching to the middle of my stomach. I had long layers and face framing pieces past my chin. I asked for a couple of inches cut off and a slight trim of my face framing pieces. She cut off close to 8 inches of my hair which was far more than I wanted. She tried to thin out my hair saying texturizing would make it look better and said to trust her and I would like it. I have thin hair so why in the world would I want it thinner. She tried to cut it until I moved away and said no. I had to tell her no and specifically wrote down how I wanted absolutely no thinning of my hair. For my mom's haircut, she cut it off more than she wanted. She was acting as if she knew what my mom wanted even after my mom specifically telling her what length to cut at. My mom was telling me how Dessislava, our hairstylist, was saying how my mom should get her hair cut like hers. She did the same to me and kept saying how she'd like me hair with different style than what I wanted. Please tell Dessislava if she wants to cut hair and do what she wants, tell her to buy a wig and experiment on that instead of using her clients while ignoring their wishes and boundaries and messing up their hair. Its unprofessional and you look dumb trying to explain yourself when people call you out on it. I also had referral code to get $5 off and she kept telling me it didn't exists even though I pulled up the Hair Cuttery website's referral promotion. I finally got the $5 off after waiting a while and when I went to pay, I didn't leave a tip. My hairstylist, Dessislava, saw and tried to say my card didn't go through and wanted to charge me again when I said I wanted a receipt. First time at Hair Cuttery. Pleasant surprise for such a affordable cut. I had a appointment and was right on time as well as the beautician was too which I appreciate. Shop was clean and well stocked. My stylist was Samantha and she was a friendly young lady and gave me a great cut. I'm taking my granddaughter to get her cut with Samantha in the next few days since she did a great job with me. Prices are great with having experienced hair dressers. Lots of parking since it's in a strip mall. Tip don't put address into gps or it will take you to where Lombard and Glen Ellyn meet and to a furniture store not even close. Unfortunately I did not have a goof experience at Hair Cuttery in Glen Ellyn by ZORICA. It was by far the worst hair cut service I have ever received. I asked for a normal cut which is called the signature cut special since I was a first time visitor I was charged $13 instead of the usual $18. This price should include shampoo and conditioner before the cutting begins. I did not receive this, instead she proceeded to fill a bottle with water and use that to wet and cut the ends of my hair. I asked for feathering at the front to give some face shaping and she didn't do it. She didn't check that the ends of hair where level. She cut off about 12 inches of hair, when I asked for about 4 inches to be cut off. I explained to her that I had a bad experience before and had to let my hair grow for 18 months so I could get it cut properly. And she cut my hair even shorter than the lady before. The cut took her 10 minutes in total. When I got home I noticed there was some hair that was longer than the rest of the hair so it wasn't level at all. In conclusion I would not recommend the stylist ZORICA as she didn't listen to what I wanted and she didn't provide the service that is advised (there was no shampooing or conditioner before the cut). Love this place! I am so glad it opened! Everyone I have had has been super nice and seems to know what they are doing. The only thing to watch out for is if you ask for a haircut make sure they don't blow dry it. It cost extra which my hairdresser charged me although I only asked for a cut. I wouldn't even go here even if it was the last hair salon on earth. I remember when I got a perm from this place let me say the lady did an okay job, but not impressed. My mom used to do hair and can still out do all these girls in the salon. First off I got a perm and I walked out paying $93 AT HAIR CUTTERY!!!! 93$ for a basic salon....I could of went to Neo bella a higher end salon and got my hair done for the same price if not cheaper or Zano hair salon. They charged me extra due to my hair length. But when I inquired about the perm. Miss ibet told me to send her a picture and I did so why couldn't the salon leader of the salon even tell me there was going to be additional cost for longer hair?? No at the time when I was ringing out they told me, like real nice and professional right?? So I wouldn't waste my time or money on this place.
