I've been dedicated to a place in the city for years now, however living in the burbs can make it difficult. Yesterday I finally caved and tried somewhere new in Naperville. It was so terrible that I reached out to a friend who's hair is always immaculate and he pointed me to Oak & Steel. They did not disappoint. I have a big interview Friday, and my hair looked like three different haircuts. Carlos covered all the uneven lines, mismatched sideburns, large chunks of uncut hair and left me with exactly what I wished I had the first time. 10/10. Also, they have a bar upstairs. Thoroughly disappointed. I specifically asked not to do anything to my mustache as I wanted to keep building towards a solid garibaldi-style. Even showed how I was going to be able to twist ends. I'm the type of guy who has gone to Great Clips for a cheap, fifteen-minute cut for most of his life. I was referred to Oak & Steel and decided to give it a try. The owner introduced herself and got me a drink at the bar (yes, there's a bar) before Mykol sat me in his chair. He was really friendly and knowledgeable, took his time, and treated me like a VIP. I got a cut, wash, and beard trim, and was done in less than an hour. It's definitely the longest time I've ever spent in the barber's chair, because I'm used to getting rushed out of there. Not here, though. When I was finally done, I walked out of the shop feeling like a pampered king (which, as a college student, is not something I can always say for myself). I suspect that one can get a pretty good haircut at Oak and Steel, but I'm not certain since I haven't been there yet. It appears that in order to make an appointment you must create an account. I spent nearly thirty minutes trying to do that unsuccessfully. (When you clicked on the dropdown menu to enter the state for your address it cleared the form and you had to start again.) The services provided and the cost of those services are pretty expensive, but the information within the website is inconsistent. The website indicated one price for the person I selected to provide the haircut, but when you tried to actually book the appointment and since you have to pay in advance, the fee for that individual was higher to go on the credit card. I finally just threw in the towel on the entire idea. (Pun intended) read more

I've been going to this shop since it opened. You're always going to be happy with the haircut you receive, I've been going to Mykol for years now. Great place you can get a massage or a drink at the bar. However, they've recently raised their prices, it's about $45 for a haircut before tip. Moved from the city back the the suburbs just over a year ago and had been looking for a great barber near Bloomingdale. I was very impressed by these guys, the atmosphere, and my cut. Got my first haircut/beard trim at this new establishment just yesterday. Am very pleased. A genuine barbershop (and so much more) staffed with genuine barbers (not cosmeticians or cosmetologists). My cut was performed by Erika Danilos. She is a young hipster in appearance and a consummate professional when wielding clippers, scissors, a comb, a razor, and a blow dryer. I am particularly impressed with the job she did on my beard. When Erika was done with it, she had sculpted and tapered it better than it's ever been. As others have noted, it offers a wider range of services, most of which I am unlikely to avail myself of. But it's nice to see a shoe-shine stand, an upstairs sitting area complete with bar service and a private room for therapeutic massage (by appointment only). By salon standards, the pricing is indeed moderate (two $$). By comparison with its in-town competing barbershops, its pricing is way upscale -- but fully commensurate with the level and quality of service. The haircut cost $40, the beard-trim $15, and I acknowledged Erika's skill and attention to detail with a $15 tip. To me the $70 was good value. I look forward to my next visit, in September. And I will make a point of asking for Erika. read more

Knuckles white, gripping the rock, and looking down into the void. I had excepted my fate. I climbed the wrong line and my path to the top was nowhere in sight. I took a deep breath and looked to the horizon with thoughts of my childhood. Playing in the rain. Chasing fireflies. Cuddles with Mom. I've had a good life. I have no regrets. Then it happened. Obstructing my view of defeat was hope. Shifting focus from afar to the foreground, I see an out reaching hand. It was Oak & Steel. They were pulling me off that cliff of the worse haircut I have ever had and they were here to help. No thanks to Sport Clips. However, if weren't for them and their hedge trimming approach, I would have never found the correct path to the summit. They were able to not only fix what had gone wrong but we enjoyed a beverage and a few stories afterward. Solidifying my relationship thus forward. I highly recommend this shop. As it's not just a barbershop. It's a sanctuary. A place to chang your perspectives on life. A place to make you look the way you should feel. Thank you for your help. Being new to the area, I was looking for a new place that was closer to home. Found them via yelp. There's a lot to love about this place! Being able to make an appointment (their own app!) is really nice because let's be honest, no one likes to walk in only and wait a couple of hours before getting into a chair. My barber was Mykol and I was pretty impressed by the service. He did his due diligence of asking me really important things that many barbers might forget to ask, especially someone that they've never helped before, things like how I normally style my hair or if I like it blended in specific parts (or not). That gave me great confidence of knowing what he was doing and how on my first visit. He executed perfectly! I got a good rinse, a hot face towel & product put in afterwards. They have a full bar upstairs too, whoa that's different! The shop is also maintained very nicely. There are barber shops in the area that are more affordable, so the higher price point is my biggest knock on this shop. Nothing bad to say about their offering and services. read more

Go. To. This. Place. Masterbarbers are highly skilled and more than reasonable pricing and the bar upstairs has top shelf liquor. Premium drinks in nice glasses and if you get a 2nd, they give you a new glass. Their attention to detail from the bar to the cuts, both hair and face, you get a true individualistic treatment. I'm a happy man now that I've finally found my barber man-- Josh Lange!!! Went to OAK & STEEL, Glen Ellyn, IL for a beard detail. It was my first time there. Set up the appointment using their app and selected Josh Lange since he had an opening that fit my schedule. I arrived early and was warmly welcomed immediately upon walking in by the barber nearest the entrance. I could tell that the place had a nice vibe to it. They have a cool bar upstairs with a wide range of drinks to choose from...alcoholic, and nonalcoholic for your designated driver tagging along. I'm somewhat particular with my beard trims...so when I go to a barber that I've never been to before, I feel uneasy. I didn't have that uneasy feeling with Josh. He listened to what I was looking for and provided suggestions. I felt like I was in the hands of a pro and in the end-- I was! OAK & STEEL's website says "GOOD CUTS, GOOD SERVICE, GOOD COMPANY". However, I strongly disagree. I only experienced "GREAT CUTS, GREAT SERVICE, GREAT COMPANY! I'll definitely be a repeat customer. read more

I've been to Oak & Steel twice now and both times got a cut from Matt. He does a great job and will get you looking right. It's fantastic to be offered a drink when you sit down and be able to sip while getting your haircut. The hot towel is a must. Other places offer it but the feel here is all class.
