I had a very bad experience with a hair dresser Trinh in this cutery and it was the worst experience I ever had with any service. Her overall attitude was rude and she was suppose to be a senior designer at the salon but my hair turned out in worst shape than I went in. The worst thing happened was she sprayed hair spray on my hair as if she was spraying insects, I had to stop my breath. Worst haircut I've ever had! Don't go here!!!! I went for a simple trim. I was trying to grow my hair long. The stylist went over her plans of cutting approximately 2 inches off which was what I wanted. She then proceeded to cut 6+ inches off my hair so it looks like a sloppy outgrown bob! I have been going to Trinh for 15 years, she is kind, thorough, professional, will suggest and execute perfection down to every strand of your hair. I am not just inflaming a review, Trinh is incredible. I brought my 80yo mother in and my mother is good judge of character( she knew within minutes Trinh was trustworthy and confident, a great stylist and makes you feel 100% its about you( selfless). I have spent 100 plus haircuts, hours with Trinh-NEVER was I dissatisfied. If you wrote a bad review of Trinh, I'd suggest examining your moral compass. Nader has been taking care of my hair for more than 20 years , and he is a master at his art. Quite reasonable too . I have been coming to the Hair Cuttery in McLean for six months. Everyone there is very nice and friendly. I see Trinh and she is wonderful. I love my hair cut so much. I don't know about others there but I'm sure others are good too. I also like their hair products. The shop is not fancy or high end but they are everything I need. So glad my daughter found Trinh. The only thing that is difficult is parking. Someone always takes me and picks me up but I highly recommend researching and planning your parking ahead of time. read more

Took my son here for a scissor trim and when I explained that to her...she said okay and then to my disbelief started using the trimmer right away and cut one side way too short. I've been to McLean Barbers and Dominion Barbers, and this one smokes them. This is the only one that washes your hair (before and after if you'd like), everyone is super nice, and they all have 20+ years of experience. I like to give little to no instruction on how to cut my hair, and they kill it every time. I also never make appointments with any specific stylist, since they all are amazing. This past time I had Vanna (she's new) and the attention to detail was astounding. Ive been coming here for almost 10 years, and I probably wont go anywhere else until I move out the state. If you just want a simple trim, maybe a cut for your kid, it's fine. Otherwise beware. Though they advertise all these services like color/highlights etc, there might be only a select stylist who has a clue. Look around. The ladies have bleached out or over processed hair themselves, some uncombed. I paid for my daughter to get some pink put in her hair and you wouldn't believe the looks of confusion. They botched it. Not even honest enough to say they didn't know how to do it. Also don't stand too close to the chairs, they come through and aggressively sweep hair and let me tell you, it gets in your shoes!! Also, there is a self check in process. The kiosk is in a terrible location and as I made my way there to check in my daughter for just a trim, I had a stylist breathing down my neck (no really, no personal space). I'll continue. It's winter and my daughter has long thick hair. (You know where this is going). She announced "finished" with my little girl with a wet head. Seriously?!? Fine. You want extra to dry it? Whatever, do it! It's dang cold outside! Or hey, how about adjusting your prices so people don't freeze?! I'll continue. The ladies were nice, quick and its reasonably priced for how simple I tend to keep my hair however I was not impressed by the cleanliness standards. A lot of the clippings 'blown' off really just went into my clothes, Cold water was used for the shampoo (maybe this is normal thing now?) and there was a lot of little hairs over most surfaces. Do yourself a favor and drive directly past this salon. We've been to this salon several times and each time I keep telling myself that it's a one off and that it will do. But it won't. Last appointment I had my two kids hair cut. Wow. Neither was great but one of their bangs was noticeably crooked. To the point that my sons teacher approached me to see if he'd cut it himself. Given the time it took for the lady to finish the cut, I'd question if she was even qualified and certainly didn't even bother asking her to fix it. We ended up going elsewhere. Recently, I thought I'd treat myself to a blow dry and treatment. I've finished with a saturated top (all down my back), water in my face and the lady barely shampooed my hair. How would any professional hair dresser wash your hair while holding a tap in one hand? No head massage, no heat, water everywhere. She was more concerned with selling me products. I truly felt invaded upon. I was not asked how I would like my hair and when she showed me the result I had to hold myself back from laughing. It really is beyond ridiculous! I'd prefer to drive to the Vienna salon as the ladies there at least seem to want to work and are capable of being professional. My rules about hair: 1. Do all dye jobs yourself. 2. Cut your hair by yourself. 3. If you don't feel like doing it by yourself, don't waste $100. Actually, don't even waste $50. After standing in front of the mirror for two nights, and deciding "I don't give enough of a crap to actually put the effort into cutting my own hair", I finally decided to get it cut. And I am a simple gal: No salons for me. After visiting my parents in McLean, I decided to swing by the Hair Cuttery to get a cut before I went home. Walked in, signed into their system, and sat down on the chairs lining the wall across from their washing stations. My butt hadn't even molded to the seat before a woman came over, checked the computer, introduced herself as Kim, and asked me what I wanted (not in the abrupt, rude way). I explained that my hair was thick and damaged, and asked her to take three or four inches off for me and clean up my (side) bangs (No styling, no blow drying. Give me the bare bone, minimum). She washed my hair, I sat back down in the chair, and she started snipping away. After ten minutes or so, my hair was definitely shorter. She asked me if I wanted layers in my hair to help minimize the thickness, and asked if I wanted them choppy to go along with my bangs. I shrugged and said okay, and she went at it. I walked out of there after spending less than twenty dollars with a pretty decent haircut. I will probably be back to see Kim when I decide I'm too lazy to cut my hair again. read more

Crossing my fingers. I haven't had a bad cut yet from the Old Dominion, McLean Hair Cuttery. For some reason the ladies tell me as I'm walking out that they are master cutters and will have to charge me $24 the next time. I'm like, who cares? I'll give you $4 now on top of your tip if you keep doing a great job. One lady cut my hair really short, but her English was bad and I had used my hands to indicate where I wanted it. She left it long in the back, like I had a gigantic balloon back there, so I asked her to wedge that off, too. In the end, it was the haircut that most of my family and coworkers liked the best. I went in for a wash and blow dry. I was told only 3 stylist in today that it would be 10 mins. The one stylist finished sooner because the client didn't want her hair dried. This other stylist also finishes up and comes out and says she can't do my hair her arm hurts. in the meantime stylist number 1 answers the phone tells the person on the phone she doesnt see their appointment but asks them if they could be there in 5 mins. She then tells hurt arm stylist she will need to take me because she now has a client. The client that didn't have an appointment. Hurt arm stylist says she can't her arm hurts. At that point I got up and left. Neither one of them said anything to me after I waited 10 mins. Apparently they dont need my business. read more

I did not expect any other fancy services, that was fine. But when I want to use my coupon, the lady who helped me out was unfriendly and unprofessional, bad attitude. Several of the ladies here give good haircuts. The problem is they don't have a good work flow in managing clients. Twice I have made an appointment (different stylists each time), have been greeted when I walked in and have been asked whether I had an appointment. When I said yes they said great, have a seat. But I was not asked who my appointment was with nor did they alert any of the stylists that they had somebody waiting. So both times I sat and sat and sat until I finally went hunting for the stylist. Profuse apologies, they "Didn't know." So what is a client to do? When directed to a waiting chair to refuse and go hunting for the stylist? Who is maybe on a lunch break? Or maybe interrupting her time with another client? Until they get the shop in order I don't think I can go back. read more

I haven't done a review in a long time but my experience was so awful here yesterday here it comes. Went in for some long layers and a trim; the cut I've been getting since the early 90s. the stylist insisted I take off more bc of damage, so I did. I didn't want a blow dry but she had me leave with my hair soaking yet, usually don't they at least dry it without the fancy brush work? Anyway a few hours when it's totally dry I check it out and it is just hacked, so many chunks and different lengths and straggling pieces; it was embarrassing, it looked like a child had been asked to cut it. I call back and they tell me to come back in. I'm trying not to cry bc I'm about to lose more hair to even it out. The lead stylist Evelyn is all brusque business and says layers wouldn't look good in my hair anyway, which is ridiculous, and chops it to all one length. She kept trying to entice me to come back in for a free cut in a few months but I politely asked for a refund. Her demeanor totally changed; rolling her eyes, raising her voice, slamming drawers, bitching in Spanish to her friend. She asked for the receipt which I did not have. Sorry! I cleaned out my car after a visit to the gas station and didn't know I'd have to be back! Evelyn is raising her voice and saying she can't do anything; another stylist, who had nothing to do with the situation, starts yelling her opinion across the salon too. They compared it to when I go to a store to return something but I told them it's actually not the same, besides the fact no one at a store has even flipped out on me like that, I had been here 5 hours ago, you could see the obvious damage, and they're supposed to guarantee their services. I couldn't believe it, my hair was obviously bad, I wasn't being a diva; I had to cut even more off to fix it so it's already enough of an upsetting situation. Somehow she magically hands me my cash but I told her I tipped too; the poor stylist who messed it up originally gives me cash back to help me get out of there. I just feel sorry for her now. I'll get over losing an extra 3 inches but not 2 ladies yelling at me while the waiting room watches on top of it. This old ass bitch used the sharpest razor I have ever felt in the back of my neck, then she chopped off like 1 inch off my sideburns when I said to just even them out(make straight), and more than half of the time she was clueless and looking around and blowing back hair shaving in my shirt literally with no care what so ever... This is why I go to Dolce Vita in McLean and id rather pay the 60$ which is 3 times more but well worth it because they know what there doing. SMH read more

Gentlemen: For 5 years, I've kept my hair short and have been getting it cut here. This is what I've learned: If your hair length is less than one inch, then you will get a decent 'regular Joe-type' cut; well worth $16. If you decide to grow your hair longer than one inch, spare yourself a botched cut, get out your credit card and go to whichever salon your wife or significant other tells you to. I very much expected to walk in here and see a place that looked very much like Great Clips. Imagine my surprise that its more like an actual salon, they even do color! I was immediately greeted by Silvia who signed me in and got me right into a wash chair. Once she was done, she took me back to her chair and asked what kind of cut I wanted. Now, I came in w/ a very specific style in mind. One that required chopping off about 9 inches of my hair. Silvia was stunned when I told her how short I wanted it. She asked about 6 times if I was sure. That's the only thing I could've done w/out. Trust me, I'm not one of those girls like on ANTM that's going to start balling the minute you put the scissors to my head. I accepted my choice, it's what I came in for. Other than that, she was great. After she was sufficiently reassured, she went to work. Quickly I might add (my hair is very thick, so that was a bit of a shock).
