There is a reason why I make good money, it is to pay people to do those things I can and could, but don't want to. My regular stylist was down for the count from the pesky virus, so I had not been able to get my hair done. I reached out on Yelp through their page and made a request for an appointment. The response was quick as someone wanted to know what service I wanted and when did I want to come in. I took a chance on seeing if I could come in on a Sunday, but never thought they would say yes....well they did. They gave me the contact info of the stylist I would be meeting with and told me to reach out to her. Tameka was quick to respond to my request and confirm the time. The shop itself is in a store front, small but attractive, with great natural lighting. It is hard to spot, but is next to the American Ale House, on the south side of Howard Street (plenty of street parking). The shampoo area is separated from the salon (two bowls) and there is a separate area for the dryers. There are about 5 stations and a receptionist desk. When I arrived, Tameka was sitting at the receptionist desk, waiting for me. My appointment was for 11 am and Tameka started immediately. I have to say she has great hands and that shampoo was amazing. Part of the service also included a steam treatment to hydrate the hair, followed by a blow dry, trim and flat iron style. Total price was $80 and well worth it, with payment handled on Zelle. My hair felt and looked amazing. Total time was an hour and a half and that is great. I hope to have my regular stylist gets well and comes back to me, but Tameka is in my contact list and I will be calling her sometime soon for another Sunday visit.

In my 20 yrs of salon adventures let me first share with a few nightmares, so you can understand my love & passion for Village Crossing's Hair Cuttery. I thought I found a place that was good after my niece referred me to a very well known salon at DUNNING SQUARE. I know my hair & the outcome of certain colors/toners when pulling color out & getting back to blonde & have specifically said "Please don't put that particular toner in my hair", only to go back the next day for a soap cap to remove the greenish sick color instead of blonde me because they did the wrong toner & I had to pay for them to correct it. I went to my 3rd visit for a highlight touchup. I had medium to light blonde hair with platinum highlights. When the stylist came with the color bowls, One bowl was to match my out growth and I noticed that the other bowl was like a wine color and asked why it wasn't blue or white (Bleach) & was told that it was a different technique. I was put under a dryer& within minutes I felt like my scalp was literally slipping off of my skull, pain was so bad pliers could not have loosened my grip from the chair arms (I have a high tolerance for pain). I kept slipping my fingers under the cap to make sure my hair was still attached. I had scabs all over my scalp that evening and walked out with wine lowlights. I finally decided to color my own hair and became a box addict until now. I'm a Worship Leader with 3 children that I homeschool and have a very active lifestyle...Im a fan of "scene hair" (it's hard to find salons with staff that even know what scene hair is) It's a tricky cut with tons of texture & can easily have a Billy Ray Cyrus mullet if your stylist doesn't know what they are doing. I've learned that pointing at a picture and saying "I want this" is not the best way to describe your needs to the stylist.There are days when I am more conservative and I want to be able to have a versatile cut that I can style and part different ways. I was itching for over a year for a new look & wanted a Bold and edgy cut/color & a friend told me about Joy at Hair Cuttery and said she had a cut similar to what I wanted. I eagerly called the salon & made an appointment..I walked in and everyone turned either smiling or saying hello. Joy greeted me and i warned her that I have never found a salon that I felt any connection with. Joy listened, made suggestions and pro's/con's of what I wanted, let me know she is not scissor happy (You can't put back what you cut off) assured me that she would stop at nothing to make sure I left happy. Our "Stylist/client chat" was NOT boring. I wasn't hoping she would stop talking..I was in love with my new stylist I was over the moon with my new look. It was beyond anything I could have imagined. All 3 of my children go to the salon and have their own favorite stylists as well as friends and other family members I have referred. I have been faithfully returning to HC at Village Crossing for almost 18 months. My husband is sexy & bald - he has tagged along because he enjoys the atmosphere and friendly chatter between the stylists and clients. I have never felt neglected in a chair or dreading the outcome at HC. Ive been so busy this summer with no time to get more then a cut until 8-29-13..my last visit for touch up was April..I had a little over 2" outgrowth with platinum hair yesterday. I walked out with the most beautiful shade of all over PINK without a halo from my outgrowth. When you walk in the door, you are greeted not only by the person that may closest to the door but everyone says hello and welcomes you. If my schedule doesn't permit me to see Joy and I can't wait, I can schedule an appointment with any of the girls know that they will do things the same way that Joy would. Of Course they have their own techniques but they LISTEN. I trust them all. I have sat in the chair processing & laughed so hard I have tears You won't find catty or snobbish, inappropriately dressed here. I've sat at salons & felt tension between stylists that made me want to crawl under the chair. The girls at HC are a dream team. They take walk ins as well as appointments. I have walked in on Saturdays just to say "HI" and it's standing room only because people LOVE going there. you won't hear clients complain about having to wait forever as a walk in. 15 min. tops wait during high traffic in the salon and with the high energy and happy faces you'll be in the chair before you know it! I have been there when Joy, the manager is not there and many places slack off when the "Boss" is gone....not here...they function in a very professional and friendly way. My hair is super important to me and have finally found a home. Yesterday had to be the best visit I've had...The staff supports one other, they work like a family and always goes above and beyond to make each client walk out the door feeling and looking A List ready. read more
