Updating my review - realized with these chain salons, stylists come and go. At least Hair Cuttery online for its stylists has photos and their skills "ranking" which was helpful because the stylist I liked (mentioned in my previous review) had left and I had to choose another one. I prefer an older stylist because they've seen a few decades of hairstyles so they know more than the current looks. Also I assume a more experienced stylist has dealt with old lady thinning hair and non-Caucasian customers. Staff at this store seem all to be nice to each other and the customers, showing concern and helpfulness during a big storm today. read more

I wanted to get a blowout for an event I was attending that evening and I couldn't get my usual stylist at the last minute. She used to work at Hair Cuttery and I remembered that they take walk ins, plus they have easy online appointments. I booked online and was matched up with Jacqi. I had booked a tea tree scalp massage and explained that I wanted a shampoo/blow dry of my very curly hair. She offered me a package that included a trim and took an inch & a 1/2 off. She blow dryed it beautifully and added some curls to jazz up the style for my event. It is gorgeous! They sent me a discount code via text and confirmed the discount, but when I got there, and after the service was finished, the code needed a voucher number and I was not able to use it. Jeremy did so great with my cut and style! He helped me get my hair to a length that helped my hair look and feel healthy while still having some length. Maria has done my hair 4-5x times now. She is amazing. I alternate between full and partial foil bleach highlights every 2-3 months. She also cuts my hair. She is highly skilled and I'm comparing this to a very fancy (and expensive) Gold Coast salon that I went to for over a decade. I couldn't be more happy to have found her. I went to the Hair Cuttery, Village Crossing, Skokie for the first time today and highly recommend it. They have plenty of parking, are wheelchair accessible, make it very easy to book online or by calling them, are very clean and patient. I booked online and selected Adela. What a wonderful choice. She is very experienced and has magic in her hands. I only needed a really cut was, simple cut and a blow oit but shekels did a wonderful job and my scalp feels so good. She paid attention to detail and I was a challenge because I am in a wheelchair but that did not phase her. I really appreciated that. I also got my eyebrows and chin waxed / great job. I scheduled an appointment on January 31 for a 9:30AM Haircut on Feb 3. I received confirmation on Jan 31 that my appointment was booked. I walk in the day of my appointment and they do not have me in their system. I look at my email and I received an email at 8:18AM saying "sorry you were a no show". I showed them my confirmation email and no show email. Their response "we're not even open at that time" they would not be able to take me until a later time which is not what I requested. I will not be going back to this salon since they would not honor my appointment me based on my confirmation. read more

I don't write reviews but.... The haircut was terrible. Bangs were cut way too short. Requested eyebrow length and got them an inch shorter. They were also crooked with longer strands hanging down. This was my fourth visit to the salon. I've been coming to get my hair washed and blown dry. I have fine straight hair. And I have always booked the classic blow dry. AFTER washing my hair Sia tells me that my hair is too long and I now must pay an additional $23, a total of $52 or else she will get in trouble with the manager. My hair comes to just below my shoulders. Same as it was the first three times I was there. The other two stylists, Maria and Bee were delightful. I told her that I had been there before and never got charged that way and neither was the pricing described that way on the website. It should be noted that even if I was doing the blow dry for curly hair her pricing would still not reach $52. And that she should have said something before she wet down my hair. She then wanted me to agree to $47. I told her I would never come in the place again. So she did it for the agreed upon price. I tipped her as I did the other two which was over 30%. And I left. And I can't say as I will ever go back. She completely alienated a client where I had started to come regularly and thought I would continue. Going to a salon it's supposed to be relaxing and instead she created hostility. No thank you Sia. I think it's perfectly terrible to try to hold somebody hostage for more money after you've wet down their hair. Happy Friday to me. read more

This is the 2nd time I've had Hee, She has no regard to what the customer wants. I went in today to cover my grays and get it cut. Just like the 1st time I had her I asked for the blackest black and she laughed and told me no. She showed me some "natural" black colors that had alot of brown in them, I said no blackest black please. I even pointed to the one I wanted. She still gave me what she wanted to do and not what I picked out. My cut is uneven and doesn't look anything like the picture I gave her. Im very pregnant and when she found out that I'm a surrogate she grabbed me by the back of my neck which I have no idea what that was about. Many of the girls there are unfriendly, I definitely won't be going back there and won't recommend that place. She also over charged me, I booked online so she charged me individually for everything that was included in the online price. read more

She DELIVERED !! She did EXACTLY what I wanted. I went to an Aveda Salon in Highland Park and they can't cut for crap. I made an appointment for 4pm for my sister who is developmentally disabled. We arrived at 4:02. We were told that our stylist was finishing up w someone else and to wait. We later learned that she had taken another client out of turn. His appointment was at 5pm but he asked to go earlier. I really wish she would have waited for us. Usually places have at least a 5 or 10 minute grace period. But what really bothered me was that instead of telling us this, we were told it would be just a few minutes. This was a lie. We had to wait over 35 minutes to be seen. And only learned that our stylist had taken this other client out of turn because he thanked her for taking him out of turn. Our stylist took someone else but no one told us she had just started on another client. Because my sister lives at a group home in the suburbs, we had to wait. It wouldn't be easy to come back another time. Finally 40 minutes later (it took the stylist at least 5 minutes to ring up the other client) we were seen. I wish she would have just told us, we could have run a quick errand instead of thinking that it would be any minute. While we were waiting another stylist became free. When I asked if she could take my sister, we were told no. That customers had to go with their assigned stylist. A few minutes later I watched as another client swapped stylists on the spot. I couldn't help but wonder if the stylist who was free just didn't want to take a developmentally disabled customer -- it sure felt like something was not right. I hope they conduct themselves w more professionalism moving forward. read more

I've been coming to this location for almost 4 years now. I've had several stylists and all were polite, listened to what I wanted and even have made suggestions on what they'd recommend. I've never left unhappy. In the last couple years my loyalty has been to Claudia. She listens and actually cares about your desired style and you never walk out not wanting to stay longer just to continue your conversations with such a great person! Even with having a preferred stylist, if I ever pop-in and she isn't available, I've never hesitated to entrust my locks to anyone else there. The place is clean, fun atmosphere, it can get busy on the weekends, but they will always work you in. Love this place. (I used to work at a very high end salon and used to pay upwards of $90-125 per cut/style!! Not going to lie, this hair cuttery has given me better haircuts!!!) I highly recommend it. read more

Cut at least 4 inches off, turning my long hair to an (ugly) bob. Stylist was also extremely rude and repeatedly insulted me. She told me I'm balding and have a receding hairline. (I'm a 39 year old woman and do not have these issues.) She also repeatedly pointed out that I have "so many grays all over the place" and said I should have gotten a haircut a "long time ago."
