What disappointed me most was not only the result, but the way my concerns were handled afterward. Instead of taking responsibility for the result and trying to understand why I was unhappy, the stylist repeatedly shifted the conversation toward blaming me. I was made to feel that the problem was somehow related to my language barrier and cultural differences in communication. At one point, the conversation even became about money and what I had paid for -- essentially, "You didn't pay for the whole highlight, right?" -- which felt completely inappropriate and shaming. I have never experienced this level of disrespect or lack of accountability in a beauty salon. I left feeling sad, embarrassed, and unwelcome, when I had simply come in expecting professional service and to be heard as a client. I want to be clear that I don't believe this experience represents the values of the entire salon or its owners. My issue is specifically with this individual stylist and the way he handled a situation when the result did not meet my expectations. I am sharing this so other women, especially those who may have a language or cultural communication difference, know to make sure their concerns are genuinely listened to and treated respectfully. A client should never be made to feel guilty or ashamed for expressing disappointment with a service.

Well, I just left Valbona's, where I happen to have "stumbled" on almost 8 years ago.....I lived in the neighborhood and decided , why not, just stop in...and WOW!! Valbona does awesome work, and the price can't be beat....You know when you have numerous people that love your hair, and ask where you had it done, that you've come across a good thing...So today we were talking about facebook, and she told me she had been posted on Yelp...I said, wellllll, I don't know if I want to share you with all those other people lol ....But she works sooo hard, as do all the ladies, and her hubby also, and the work she does is phenomenal, really...I told her years ago that she was going to end-up going far once word started spreading about her business....AND, you can just walk-in...You know those days you just look at yourself, and say ack!! I'd been seeing Valbona for a number of years when I lived in Palatine. I moved to Colorado 3 years ago. Whenever I plan a visit to Chicago, I always make arrangements to see Valbona and have my hair colored and cut. I saw Valbona last week. I'm back in Colorado now, but I have to tell you a story. I was in the bathroom today putting hairspray on my hair and didn't realize my husband was in the next room watching me. First thing he said was, "That Valbona sure does a hell of a great job coloring your hair!" Thank you, thank you Valbona! He noticed! I love it, too! I've lived in the neighborhood for 25 years. I have been going to Valbona's Salon since they opened. I love them so much there! Not only do they do a designer job, but they truly love their customers. Val can pretty much address every one that comes in or calls by name. That means something if all her custies are repeats. They always go out of their way to give you the best (and she is a great listener!). If she ever left, I would be devastated (and begging for her number to do house calls!)
