We found a kids salon for our toddler son's haircut, but I thought it was a bit far (as we often were running late) and charged a bit much. Once again, I went to my trusty Yelp and found "Rock Hair Scissors," located by the Edgebrook Metra Station. Online booking was easy and I booked the next day appointment late the day prior. They had a shared parking lot with other businesses and we didn't have to look for street parking. Vicky, the stylist, was very attentive to cutting the hair and a good listener. We showed her what we wanted done for our son and she got to work right away! The result turned out great. They had him sit inside the "car seat" with a seat belt buckle attached inside. I also saw the other kid was watching cartoons on a tablet. They definitely knew how to keep the kids entertained and distracted. This is a much closer location for us to get to and we will surely come back for more haircuts. The pricing is fair and $10 less than the other corporate kids salon chain in Chicagoland. read more

They are very skilled with kids here. Place sets up screens, has kid focused products, and knows how to work with their young clientele. With all the small kids, and each customer with their own screen, it's a little loud and chaotic (if you have a noise sensitive kid). Recommend for ages 6 and under. read more

We see Kelly for both our son and daughter, and she's always great with them. She knows how to keep my son calm when he's upset about the clippers near his ears, and she makes my daughter feel so special by adding a little braid to hold her hair back. I highly recommend her! read more

They cut my sons hair twice. He didn't cry the first time. Second time he did. The stylist got through it and all went well. I will come back for a third time. They did a great job for a kid who just experiences this once in a while. read more

I would give this place 10 stars if I could. Kelly did a great job with my daughter's curly hair. She was patient, kind, and my daughter's hair looks so good. Despite being busy, they were timely, gentle and fun with the shampoo (which my daughter has never done before), and gave her exactly the haircut I had been envisioning. My daughter doesn't love loud buzzing noises but Kelly worked gently and patiently with her diffuser and my daughter was absolutely beaming after her haircut. We will definitely be back!! read more

I was dreading to take my little girl-- DREADING because I was 100% sure she was going to cry, but thanks to the great receptionist and Kelly, I succeeded in my toddler's first haircut. AND I'll be back!! I've driven past this place many times and thanks to great Yelp reviews, I decided to check it out. So glad I found this place and had a great experience! Neither myself nor my kid were traumatized! I checked in to Yelp for first time $17 hair cut. They had a first haircut package for $30 that includes pieces of her hair as souvenir, a picture, and a certificate. Knowing it'll just sit at my house, I decided to skip it. We also opted out of shampoo service, though included with the service, because we predicted she wouldn't sit for a haircut. Kelly gave her an option to sit on any chair that she wanted to, and she also played a movie. When my daughter cried the 1st time while hair was being sprayed, the receptionist distracted her with goldfish, AND a small stuffed animal. It did the trick. She was distracted with the movie, snack, and a toy to hold on. The second time she cried during a blowout--- WHAAAAAT(?) they blow dry kids hair too? YES!!! The receptionist brought out bubbles that distracted her a big time! First haircut success! Kelly suggested to bring her every 2-3 months so she can get used to it. Super cute place and my almost 2-year-old's haircut was great! My complaints are... We had an appointment at 3:30, when we walked in we were told to sit down ( no checking in), and at 3:45 I finally went to the front desk and asked what was going on and if we needed to do anything else. The lady at the front desk just said " well they are running behind." I explained to her I didn't know that and that would have been good information. This was my son's first haircut and asking him to wait for that long and then get in a chair and sit and do something he has never done was just a lot to ask. It then took a while to get him settled in the chair we finally got started at 4pm. overall the haircut looked great. Just was hoping for a welcoming environment for our first time. Good bye driving into the inner city for my sons haircut! I would honestly, from the bottom of my heart, would like to thank everyone for dealing with my little maniac. My son is reaching those terrible twos and he is starting to assert his independence. The fact is, this boy needs a haircut. The kind folks at RHS were prepared for the task. My son hates the clippers and cries through the whole thing and i feel terrible because all in the while, the person cutting his hair is talking to my son, meeting my demands on ow i want his haircut to look like, and dodging swipes from my little angelboy. They are truly masters of their craft. This place is very kid-centered. Train and car barber seats. Tablet with all the kiddie movies and shows, goldfish crackers and juice. This place is very reasonably priced and very fast (esp. with a child screaming for bloody murder). They leave him with a fresh cut each and every time. The customer service is great here and they are great with the kids! read more

I have an almost two year old. Made an appointment a week in advance. First time (and last) attending. We show up 15 minutes early and received no greeting. No one tried to make my child feel welcome or comfortable. We then waited another 30 minutes (15 minutes past his appointment) and the two times I politely asked about a time frame, I was treated like I was bothering them. These people were rude and not how I would expect a place that is supposed to work with children to be. I absolutely do not recommend coming here. read more

This children's hair salon has been in Edgewater neighborhood for years. I love that this salon has own parking lot behind the store and customers could enter the back. Offered a cup of goldfish crackers and a movie to watch for my daughter to get comfortable. Thr salon easily accommodate a walk-in, like my daughter, a first time customer. Since it was a walkin, it didn't cross my mind to ask if this salon takes debit cards. Anyway, that was easily settled, perhaps there was a sign out front that this salon takes cash or check only and just missed it. (If there wasnt, maybe there should be a sign before entering.) There wasnt much chair selection to choose from: red Wright brothers' style plane, train conductor chair, or retro white race car (suitable for younger or tinier kids). Regardless, my daughter was excited to get her hair washed and cut, since it's been months. Another client came in and I would best described of him being terrified of getting a haircut. It took his mother, hair stylist, and the cashier to distract him/get comfortable with the experience. That child was able to blow bubbles and play with sticky slime. Whereas my daughter couldn't keep still as well, since I requested my daughter for an angled cut, which is $10 more. I felt my daughter deserved a little bit more of an attention, understandable since that client appears to be a regular. I give this place 3 stars because she's had her haircuts in kidsnips and snippets in the past. read more

I just have to highly recommend this place for children haircuts. They are absolutely the best. From top to bottom this place is a blast for kids. The put your child in one of there themed seats and give them balloons, monkeys, video , gold fish, and anything to play with in the store. The employees there are so helpful and great with kids. Kelly is out favorite . They don't try to push any of their products or toys and everything in the there is all natural or organic. We always buy something when we come in just to support this great small business . Coming here's truly a top-of-the-line experience. read more

Ms. Kelly is great with her skills and way she works with the kids to get best haircut. We have been taking my almost 6 y.o here for the last 4 years and she always looks forward to it! Parking is easy (and free if there is space in the back). Recommend for kids that have a playful spirit (will they sit in the firetruck, car, airplane?). Turns getting a haircut into a pleasant experience for everyone. The snacks (goldfish and juice) are a nice extra. They always have good products to browse while your little one getting their haircut, including some that are organic and some that are an absolute must if your kid is in public school (eg Fairy Tales Rosemary Reper Conditioning Spray) which keeps lice away! Would have given 5 stars if their online booking system a bit more automated. Currently you request date/time and they have to call you back before it's confirmed. I get the human touch important so it's a minor issue. read more

5* for the lady who cut my 1yr old son's hair. She was amazing at keeping him calm, cutting hair fast and beautifully. He looks so adorable with his new hair cut. However, i cut one star because the receptionist was doing literally nothing and there was plenty to do. The doors were locked (no idea why) but the hairdresser unlocked it for me. The chair where my kid sat, needed cleaning before he sat in. The receptionist could have done that 10 times while we waited. And I really appreciate that they have toys for kids to play with but they really need to be cleaned. read more

This is the perfect place for kids! They really know how to keep kids happy while getting a haircut. I took my 4 year old son here for the first time because we needed to new place. He needs a haircut every 2-3 months so he's used to it, but to have a place JUST for him is great! He got to pick which chair he wanted to sit in, what he wanted to watch and got goldfish crackers AND a lollipop afterwards. All for $15 because of the Yelp check in. Score. 2 things I didn't like but not that big a deal to take away a star: parking/driving is a bit rough. I passed the place at first. However, they do have free parking in the back and you can just ring the cow bell and they'll let you in. And the second thing is our hairdresser didn't speak much english so her son translated for her. No big deal, my sons hair turned out great, just know that before going in. I found out about RHS through a local FB mom's group. When I called to make an appointment, the clerk was friendly and helpful, and also reminded me that there is free parking in the lot behind the salon. RHS is definitely kid-centric and like kidsnips, only smaller. What I liked that differed from kidsnips is that they offer a shampoo along with the haircut at no additional cost. Kids seats, videos to entertain them, toys and lollipops...all makes kids and parents happy. W's hair is perfect...our stylist cut it exactly to the style I had requested. She needed a translator (something the apt clerk had already told me, and he was the one who handled the translating) but she was super sweet and doted on W from beginning to end. With the Yelp check in, his cut was only $15. There are $5 places all over the neighborhood, but places that cater to kids certainly have their merits. read more

They do a great job with the kids, and they know all the tips and tricks to get a decent haircut out of a squirming monster. We found this place in the neighborhood to get our kids hair cut. It's great! The last time I took my 3 year old to another kiddie hair cut place he freaked out. I don't blame the other place, kids are like that at times. What I like about Rock Hair is the service. They let us get there a bit early to let my son try to get comfortable first. Then they tried to wash his hair in the special wash chairs, like in adult shops where you sit backwards, but that wouldn't fly this time. So instead they just wet his head down. During the haircut they let him eat some goldfish and gave him some juice to make him feel at ease. Additionally they have little portable DVD players with a bunch of kid friendly videos to watch. My son is currently into Thomas the Train, and they had one of his videos. The chairs they have are really cool as well. There's a old style roadster, a red prop plane, a train, and my favorite the Mach 5 from Speed Racer! (They wouldn't let me sit in it thou...) They also have a few regular chairs with booster pads for the slightly older kids. In fact they suggested I sit in one of those chairs alongside my son to help calm him down. They even put a smock on me to show my son it wasn't a big deal. Again, really good service. There's parking in the back of the store in a shared lot (off of Lehigh I believe) which is really convenient. The decor of t The price is very reasonable for a kids haircut.
