In short: I read the good reviews on yelp for Elaine and felt very confident going to her you have my microlink extensions installed. However it very soon became clear they were installed incorrectly and she was not willing to help in any way. Giving her the benefit of the doubt and assuming all the other reviews are genuine, perhaps she knows what she's doing with other types of extensions but if you have microlink I would stay far away!! Full story: After reading all the good reviews and messaging with Elaine she seemed very nice and reasonably priced so I made an appointment to have my microlink extensions installed. I had my own hair and she already told me if anything needed to be re-tipped that would be an additional charge, no problem I agreed to that. She put in my extensions and by the next night I was woken up from intense itching like I've never experienced. I've had microlink extensions before and I know it can take time to get used to so I tried to ignore the feeling for as long as possible but after a week of feeling like a million ants are crawling through my hair I finally gave in and sent her a text explaining the situation and politely asking if there's anything that can be done to rectify this or how we can address this issue. I also sent photos to show how the top of the extension was sticking out above the microlink and sticking directly into my scalp. I will say that it wasn't my entire head it was very specific areas of my head that was itching, ruling out any kind of allergy but it was at least 40% of my head. Also, I explained when I brushed my hand across the top of my head I could feel very short and coarse pieces of hair sticking out and it was obvious this is what was causing the itchiness. I immediately got a very defensive series of texts back from Elaine, at first saying she was in the class and would call me after from the airport but then continued sending me more defensive texts. She tried blaming it on the hair I had brought and said maybe it's because some of it needed to be re-tipped, if that was the case then why didn't she re-tip them like we discussed? Invalid excuse. After all the excuses and her saying she wouldn't be back in town until Feb 13 (we were texting on Jan 25th) there was NO WAY I could last another 3 weeks with my scalp being this irritated. I also mentioned that I'm leaving the country, which she was aware of, on February 13. She eventually offered to take them out free of charge as a "courtesy", however this was already a backhanded offer as she knew I wouldn't even be in LA and how and earth would I be able to wait 3 weeks when it's so irritated and itchy from the improper install?!? I was already ready to tear them out myself! She was not offering any suggestions or even recommendations to see someone sooner or even seeming to care about what I was going through after I've given her 100's of dollars. To be honest I wasn't going write a review and i was just going to accept the loss, just take it as a lesson learned, but after going to another extension specialist to get them professionally removed (another $200) and without mentioning anything about what had happened or the irritation (I wanted an unbiased 2nd opinion) they started work on my hair and were immediately horrified with the way they were installed and say it's no wonder I was so uncomfortable!! Since having them removed and waiting a week for my scalp to have a break and recover, I have had them reinstalled and I'm am so happy and comfortable with them now. Most Importantly ZERO itchiness or irritation! I wish I had just saved the $600 and had them done professionally in the first place, so if I can help someone else from having the same experience at least something positive can come out of this. read more

I love love LOVE Elaine. This is my first time ever getting any type of hair extensions so I was very nervous and naive. I had so many questions and I was hesitant to get them. I found Elaine through yelp. And thank goodness I did. I called her and she was able to set up a consultation right away. During the consultation: My hair is complicated. I have a balayage with lots of different colors and I'm pregnant so I didn't want to dye my hair so it was important for me to get a color that would match seamlessly with the colors of my hair. Elaine saw me, talked about the different types of extensions and recommended what was best for my hair. She factored in the volume of my hair, the length and the color. She then asked me for my goal. And with that discussion we came up with a perfect plan. She recommended for me to get my hair at The Hair Shop ( I believe normally she would get hair for you but since I have a lot of colors in my hair I went so I could physically match it ), she told me exactly what to purchase and I just had to show the sales associate her text that included all the info in and they were able to get me exactly what I wanted. During the consultation we were also able to schedule my next appointment which was the next week. Elaine is flexible and will work with your schedule Parking: There is a parking structure about 2 mins. walking distance from her salon Getting the hair: The Hair Shop, is great I went in I showed them the text and then we were able to quickly compare colors and length for my hair. I was out of there within 20 minutes. The application: I got the i tip extensions, in the length of 18 inches. When I got there Elaine offered me water and she has a cute set up with a tv and Netflix and you have the option to watch whatever you want. The application took about 2 hours ish. It went fast and it was super easy. Towards the end of the session she even gave my hair some layers to make the extensions blend better with my real hair which was very effective. During the session we also talked about the care for the extensions. Overall: I was very happy with the results. I left her studio feeling beautiful and the extensions blend in so well with my real hair. I got exactly what I was expecting from them. I LOVE them and I seriously can't even imagine not having extensions. Post session: It took me a few days to get used to the i tip extensions. When you lay down you kinda feel the ridges of the beads. Also when you run your fingers through your hair it's really new to me to feel the beads through my fingers. Washing, drying and styling my hair has also been very different. It takes me about 5 extra minutes in the shower to do extra hair care. And Drying can take an extra 15-20 mins. Styling my hair also is different because I don't want the beads in my hair to show, so styling it has to be strategic. This is all worth it though because the extensions make you look AMAZING. Everyone has been saying that the colors match perfectly and that it blends in perfectly! Also, Elaine has been texting me, for follow ups if there are any beads bothering me or if I need any adjustments, she told me to text her and she will be able to fix them for me... which is absolutely amazing. You can reuse the hair as long the quality allows, but need to have it reapplied in about 3-4 months.k read more

I am so grateful to have found Elaine . I have had individual extensions for 9 years and was so fed up with the expense, up keep, and damage to my hair I removed them then cut my hair four inches. I hated it! I have fine hair so I thought I had to live with it, then I found Elaine. She did a consultation and assured me she could do it on my fine and now, short hair and she did! I took Elaine's private hair extension class and I am so happy that I did! This is probably the best investment in my career I've made yet! She teaches you 6 different methods, and explains what type of client is a good candidate for each, she teaches you removal, how to save hair, where to get tools for good prices, where to buy hair, she takes her time answering any questions and makes sure you leave feeling like you have every method down. I originally thought like many others that there were one or two specific methods I should learn but it is well worth it to learn all 6 and take her class because there are so many benefits of each and I am not even sure which ones are my favorite anymore! Other classes I looked into were full of people where here you get one on one time to really make sure you leave knowing you can install extensions confidently on your clients.
