Ken, the owner and only person working at this neighborhood strip mall hair cutters, is rude, communicates poorly, and is not service oriented. I was looking for a new haircut person and read his positive reviews. I was also looking to change/update my hair style but was not sure what would work with my hair type and facial features so hoped to get advice/ideas from ken. Previous hairdressers have welcomed opportunities to be creative and share their professional expertise. Ken had zero interest in being creative or helpful. First he scheduled me, a new client, for a standard 25 min appointment with another appointment immediately after. There was no time to discuss options about cut or color. He simply asked how I wanted my hair cut. When I said I was not sure and was looking to make a change, he became quite irritated and terse with me. I asked what were the options? He said, short/long, scissored or trimmer, block or fade...some of the terms and styles he rattled off were not familiar to me or felts quite general. I finally just told him to use a trimmer and make it shorter on the sides (#2) and longer on top (#3). Not really the haircut I wanted, but what I had been getting at Supercuts post-COVID. Ken SILENTLY did a quick cut; no wash or blow dry; managed to get hair down my back; and then immediately hopped over to the cash register to collect his money. I gave him a card which did not scan properly on his little portable transaction equipment. He irately handed the card back and said it wouldn't scan. I told him to enter the info manually. He tried to refuse but since the alternative was not getting paid, he managed to complete the transaction (after asking me to indicate the tip amount). He got a 10% tip which he did not earn. He did not ask if I wanted to schedule my next appointment; clearly he did not want me as a client--but he needn't have worried. Unpleasant Ken without a Barbie dream house (or manners). Ken listens to what the customer wants, is skilled, and fast without the bs. I'm so glad I found someone to cut my hair that I trust and is consistent. He was able to see me the day I called. He prefers cash but accepts credit cards. Ample parking Basically I didn't cut my hair for 8 months because my stylist quit. When she was on maternity leave, another cut my long hair short calling it a trim. It took three years to grow it to my shoulder blades! I didn't trust anyone else after that. my hair is naturally thick and wavy/curly. After eight months of not getting a haircut, it looked terrible: heavy, un shapely - like some kind of bowl mullet nastiness. I wish I found Ken sooner. I've been looking terrible for more than a half a year, and I've been uncomfortable with my hair being out of control. I finally took the risk and felt confident after reading Ken's reviews. My hair looks and feels so good now. I am back to my natural wavy hair, and it feels much lighter. He does a great job with layers and giving the customer what they want which, in my case, was just needing those layers and a trim while continuing to let it grow out after Edward scissor hands got ahold of me years ago. I know Ken hates Yelp 100%, but that's how I found him so I'm leaving this review anyway. read more

After over 3 and a half years of avoiding salons due to Covid, I finally came back. I liked Ken so much that I remembered his shop, and decided to book an appointment here again. He remembered me as well, and everything is just as I left it: quick, friendly service, reasonable prices, a clean shop, and a cut exactly how I wanted it. I was in and out in about 15 minutes. He's very popular, so I wouldn't advise trying to get a walk-in unless you'll be in the area for a while; it's seems to be easiest to get a time slot in the mid to late mornings. The credit card reader can be a bit finicky, so bring a little cash with you if you happen to be in a hurry. read more

When I went from having bottom of the butt hair to doing the big chop, I came to Ken. When I broke my hair with a poorly thought out self trim, Ken fixed it. My husband needed interview hair- Ken made him look darn good. Everyone in my family has wildly different but difficult hair- super fine and wavy, tangly and curly, to crazy thick and nearly impossible to take care of. He's made us all look good. I came to Ken after scouring the web and yelp for good hairstylists with proof of great balayage work. I'm always nervous about new hairdressers as I've had so many bad past experiences (my hair is extremely thick), but Ken made me feel comfortable and at ease right away. He is very communicative and makes sure to give me exactly what I want, while also making helpful suggestions. I just went back again for sombre and more highlights and I couldn't be happier! He is a hair genius! Few hairdressers can cut and color my hair correctly but he does amazing work every single time. I get so many comments from people asking who does my hair. I found my hair stylist for life! I have always been in and out of cheap places to have my hair cut my entire life and have never been satisfied with the end product. I always felt what I wanted was pretty simple, but they always managed to screw it up. :o/ Ken was referred to me through my boyfriend who has been seeing him for years. Ater a mutual friend had a super sweet haircut from him also, I decided one day that I wanted a change, I've never done anything with my hair, really - no color, no highlights, not even much styling. I wanted highlights and a cut and style. But mostly I wanted someone to TELL me what would look good with my face shape and hair, and that's exactly what Ken did! He told me my options, said what he wanted to do, I okay'd and we started! It was the BEST hairstyle I've ever had! And the highlights- wow! Not too bright or sharp, they perfectly blended in and looked so, so good. I received so many compliments! I have gone back for another cut since then and will continue to see him. He is rather inexpensive for the services he provides and he's just such a lovely guy, I love going to see him. He always remembers my boyfriend and how he's had his haircuts in the past, my boyfriend doesn't even need to say anything, Ken just knows what to do. Ken explained to me how best to care for my hair post-highlights. I cut conditioning down to 1x a week and used a color-safe shampoo and my highlights are still visible, 8 months later! Of course my hair's grown out but that's amazing! I would recommend him to anyone looking for a stylist who knows what he's doing. I had a haircut with Ken a couple of months ago. I need to go back. I'm terrible at having my hair trimmed! But anyway, he's a really nice guy, very personable, very easy to talk to, and very professional. My friends recommended me here since they had all had such wonderful haircuts. I walked in not really knowing what it was I wanted. I wanted some layers, to trim off the dead ends, and to just do the usual maintenance and upkeep. Admittedly, I will say I wasn't quite sure about it at first but as the days went by, I realized what a wonderfully versatile and well done cut it was. I really liked it about a week after I had some time to experiment! He knows his stuff and I think it was a good idea to let him take control. The price was pretty reasonable for such a great cut. I've been thinking about scheduling another appointment but he's really always so busy so be sure to call in advance! I really need to book that next appointment! read more

I went today for my first haircut with Ken. My hair was horrible and I asked him to cut it short... It looks nice, smooth and healthy now... I'm planning to go back every 2 months for a trim maintenance because he's so nice and easy to talk to... He's quick and there's no waiting and no BS... He didn't wash my hair, nor rubbed "essential oils" on my scalp, and didn't give me a neck massage either. However, this is WHAT I was looking for: a simple and well done haircut, with no foo foos that we actually end up paying for... I'll never go back in those expensive salons to get those little "extras"... If I need a massage to be pampered, I'll pay for a massage, but if I just want a quick and nice job on my hair I'll go see Ken. One more thing: in those expensive salons, the hairdresser often offers stuff for you to buy, Ken doesn't. Small simple things that make our life easier ;) read more

This place is perfect for getting a quarantine haircut. Ken is a one man show so you aren't sharing a space with 10 other people. Ken wears a mask the whole time and sterilizes everything between clients. I have long, straight hair that I usually get cut straight across but Ken suggested slight layers and it made a big difference in how my hair frames my face. I wanted to get my hair cut and my usual hair stylist was on vacation. I called around and Ken found time for me on a Saturday morning last minute. When I came in, he was finishing a woman who told me she's been going to Ken for 9 years and he's seen her through chemo and regrowing her hair. And she looked wonderful when he was finished with her. I've been to a lot of hair stylists in my time and I know what a knowledgeable hair stylist looks and feels like, and Ken is it. He looked at my hair and asked what I wanted, and when I asked what he thought I should do, he knew immediately what he wanted. He moved quickly but expertly and was finished cutting my hair in 15 minutes, tops. The hair looks fantastic. I asked him about color options--I love to color my hair and have done many colors in my life--and he immediately suggested something I haven't had done in years because I haven't found a stylist that felt confident enough to do it. I've been getting my hair cut by Ken for several years now - he knows what he's doing and takes the time to make me feel valued. I can call in and he knows me by first name, what haircut I'll get - even if I just say "a little longer than last time". I used to go to the big chain stores (you know, the ones that claim to be "super" or "great"), but why bother going somewhere when you never know who will cut your hair, let alone bother building a relationship with you! Giving the benefit of the doubt, the guy was not paying any attention. I asked for 5 or 6 inches, and what I got was four inches at the longest, buzzed at the shortest, not even remotely what I asked for. He started with the back, so I didn't realize what he was doing until it was too late. All this after he made a crack about me "desperately" needing a haircut when I came in - it was mildly insulting at the time, now it's just infuriating after he did basically the exact opposite of what I asked for. My hair hasn't been this short in fifteen years, it feels and looks ridiculous and wrong, and now I get to go through that awful irritating mid-length all over again. I'll certainly never be going back, unless it's to get my money back to subsidize the new hat I wouldn't have bought otherwise. read more

My the way he styled my hair was a big plus too. Only reason why I didn't give a full 5 stars was due to pricing, considering I didn't get my hair shampooed and was still charged $45.
